REVISION HISTORY
RELEASE DATE REV 01 CHANGE Initial Release

1.0 Purpose The purpose of this Dive Plan is to outline the procedure, technique, and recovery methods for lost instrument recovery. 2.0 Scope This document is limited to the effort to recover an acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) accidentally dropped over the side of xxxxxxxxx test boat during instrument validation testing. The instrument is approximately 15 x 8 DIA and 133 lbs. with four holes on the top surface to screw in a lifting eye. The instrument was lost on 6/29/04.

3.0 Controls 3.1 Two Certified Scuba Divers (the scuba divers shall stay together throughout the dive. If any diver losses sight of their dive buddy they are required to surface immediately to reestablish contact) Two (2) standard scuba tanks (within hydro & visual inspections) Two (2) buoyancy compensators with tank backpacks Two (2) weight belts (with proper weights to compensate for fresh water diving) Two (2) Scuba regulators Two (2) diving masks (with snorkels as needed) Two (2) sets for diving fins Two (2) sets of wetsuits, gloves, booties (as needed) Diving tables (dive shall be planned for no decompression diving)

If at any time either diver loses sight of the other diver both divers shall ascent to the surface immediately. One diver shall be assigned the duty of lead diver. If at anytime while the divers are underwater the surface personnel can alert the divers by blowing the handheld boat horn into the water. When the divers hear this sound both shall immediately ascent to the surface together. Adjustment of diver weight belts is very important. Each diver will remove weight as needed to compensate for the buoyancy difference fresh & salt water.

5.0 Procedure 5.1 5.2 5.3 Using the GPS coordinates, move the boat, personnel, and equipment to the position the instrument was dropped into the lake. Drop anchor and ensure boat is remaining in position. Divers put on dive gear then double check buddies gear.

Attention: The following steps are very important. Ensure diving personnel has adjusted their weight belt to take into account the buoyancy difference between fresh & salt water. 5.4 5.5 5.6 5.7 5.8 5.9 One (1) diver enters water and floats on surface to ensure buoyancy/weight is correct. Boat deckhand personnel supports diver in water by adjusting weight belt if necessary. Diver two enters the water and adjusts weight belt if necessary. Divers drop to bottom and set-up search line. The search line consists of an anchor weight and a line (20 feet long) with knots every ten (10) feet. The divers begin a circular search pattern with a diver at ten (10) feet and twenty (20) feet. If the instrument is not located after one circular rotation then the central anchor weight is moved to outside of search circle and pattern repeated until the instrument is located. Once the instrument is located the diver who finds the instrument will stop the rotating search pattern and visually signal the other diver.

5.10 Both divers will meet at the found instrument. 5.11 The lead diver will screw the eye bolt lifting tool into the top of the end-cap. 5.12 A marker buoy will then be attached and a float will be released to the surface. 5.13 Both divers will ascent to the surface together. 5.14 The boat deckhand will hand one end of the lifting line (100 line) to the lead diver.

5.15 Both divers will descent together and attach the bitter-end of the lifting line to the instrument eye bolt. 5.16 Both divers will swim to the search line weight. The lead diver will coil the search line and carry the weight (compensate buoyancy as needed) while both divers and ascent to the surface. 5.17 Both divers will get back on boat and secure equipment. 5.18 The boat deckhands will use the lifting line to recovery instrument. 5.19 The dive profile shall be logged by each diver. 6.0 Post Dive Conclusions After the recovery dive has been completed this section shall be completed.
