PATRIOTICISM: Introduction: Patriotism is said to be love of mother land. A patriot is someone that loves his/her country.

Patriotism is therefore considered as a good attitude or human quality. Justification: A patriot is hailed as a quality within a person, often they sacrifice their lives. There is the spirit of sacrifice in patriotism, hence many American showed patriotic attitudes towards their country during the September 11th event. The came in solidarity and even soldiers accepted going to war in response to defending their country. Many people gave their time, money and properties to ensure that the event of September 11th did not defeat their spirit. Usefulness: Patriotism is useful in any country or nation. It helps to build a nation upon sacrifice. Americans were able to use all resources at their disposal to help each other. Patriotism therefore is highly useful since it makes the people to think of their own country; which was the case with many Americans during the September 11th event.

PREJUDICE: INTRODUCTION: Prejudice according to social psychologists is another sub-group of attitudes and it has been defined as negative attitude towards member of some social groups. Discrimination is a byproduct of prejudice which is described as negative behaviour towards the object of ones prejudice. In this respect prejudice is an attitude while discrimination is the behaviour (Allport, 1979). This definition fits in well to the attitude displayed by many Americans who became prejudiced towards foreigners whom they accuse of being a contributing factor to the September 11th event. The prejudiced Personality: This includes ethnocentrism: This is a belief that ones own ethnic and cultural group is superior to other groups as such the ethnocentric does have a corresponding disdain for all other groups. The other form of it is the Judgemental personality; those that fit this personality are similar to ethnocentric personality as they share similar tendencies. These tendencies include intolerance for weakness, a punitive attitude as well as submissive respect for in-groups authorities. Going by explanation of prejudiced personality it is possible to understand that they Americans who became prejudiced did so, on the basis of either being ethnocentric in their personality or judgemental towards foreigners. Their attitude helped them to pre-judge foreigners since towards who perpetrated the act were foreigners and even more so of other faith.
