MotivationWhat are the problems you have encountered and what did you do to solv e it?2. Vocabulary DevelopmentThe students will give the meaning of the idioms in the se ntences below from thecontextual clues given.a. She was told that the food that was burnt to a crisp couldnt possibly be undone so itwas useless crying over spilled milk . b. H is doctor said he had only a year to live, so he decided to drain the cup to thedregs. c. K eeping sorrow locked up inside his heart was very unhealthy. H e must let go of his grief or be broken down by stress.d. For many years, she blamed herself for her husbands heart attack. She shouldrealiz e her family has had enough of this breast-beating. e. H e has had many upsets in all these yaers, but he successfully overcame them;expe ctedly, he will soon touch the stars. After knowing the meaning, the students will use the idioms in sentence.B. During- reading1. The teacher will distribute the copy to the students. The students will read the essaysilently.

2. As the students read the text, they will underline the key words and ideas in th e textwhich suggest how one can cope with problem. They will underline as many a s possible.C. Post- reading1. The teacher will ask the students the following questions:a. What is your first impression about the essay? b. What is the main idea of the essay?c. What does the author wants us to tell?2. Paired Responsea. Paired students will individually select a qoute or a line from the essay that t heyfind significant or meaningful and record the qoutation in column I. b. Students then write their personal thoughts, feelings, and reactions about these lected qoutaion in column II.c. The partners exchange papers. In column III of the partners paper, each studentr espond to the writing of his partner.d. The journals are returned to each partner. In column IV, the students respond to thecomments that their partner wrote in column IIIe.
