XXV

(after Khalil Gibran's "Beauty XXV") Where to find love, and how to find her unless the journey From with-in starts? And what would you say of Her, except that which you would say of intention? Desperates say "Love conquers all Afflictions. Like a healer whose gentle touch Brings forth the rain." Cynics say "Love afflicts all who make Her their guide. She is a con artist, unknown and conniving Until She packs her bags the day your electricity shuts off." Heretics say "She impassions like a drug. She finds the deep cavities our souls hold In order to make our humanity whole. She taunts from corners of the Earth, yet unexplored." Faithful say "She lingers in the night, And electrifies you with white noise ." In morning, the birds say "Love shall crawl and bury into ground with no legs." At night, foxes say "Love shall dart side-to-side, Onto on-coming traffic." And at noon, the hunters say "Love shall show Herself, never be caught. Love shall be Hawk In the sun's eye, She shall be Ahab's great white whale." On mountain peaks, they say of Love "depths of despair can only Love bring." And in valleys, they say "only can we see god's creation from above." Yet, of all these things, you speak not of Love, You speak of pursuits.

And Love is not a pursuit, she is the trampled blades of grass in its wake. Love is not a fish to be reeled in and thrown to the ocean, If the size does not fit. Love is not a line, or a bow, or an arrow or a target. But rather, she is the calluses, and cuts, upon the carpenters' hands. Love is not a goal, or a destination, or a place. But rather, she is the steps that can be marked in the snow, should the journey fail. She is not the stars, or the planets, or the heavenly bodiesOr a lake in which one drowns. But rather, she is cloud trails of jets, the path of blood and oxygen, as she beats through the body, a beginning where a critic writes "The end." - Safe How does "Love" compare to its inspiration, Khalil Gibran Khalil's "Beauty XXV?"
