A CENTENARY OF CARING Cooperating Anglican Parish of Canowindra and Uniting Church Congregations of Canowindra, Cranbury and Cudal will be celebrating 100 years of the Canowindra Methodist Circuit during the weekend of 23-24 June 2012. A dinner is being organised for the Saturday evening 23 June in the Canowindra Community Centre at 6.30pm. On Sunday a Communion Service will be held in the Peace Memorial Uniting Church, Blatchford Street at 10am. Sunday lunch followed by a pleasant Sunday afternoon concert at Cranbury Uniting Church in the Paddock 2pm. The Moderator of NSW, ACT, Rev Dr Brian Brown will be the guest preacher. The congregations are compiling a booklet of stories, yarns, historical events, funny events, spiritual discovery and growth that can be shared with all present and the community at large and would welcome a contribution from you! It need only be a paragraph or two. TECHNOLOGY TO HELP FIGHT CRIME QUICKER NSW Police have welcomed the creation of a mobile version of the popular Crime Stoppers web site. Today, Crime Stoppers in Australia is launching a mobile version of its tip submit web site www.crimestoppers.com.au Operational Communication Assistant Commissioner Peter Barrie said information from the public was one of the greatest weapons police had to fight crime. The smart phone and the tablet have become a part of our lives in a short time. The mobile site will give the public an additional means to report crime that will work alongside the more traditional communications mediums. The mobile site is a secure, simple way for the public to tell us what they know. It is a great way for people to send us a message and support it with a picture anywhere, anytime. Peter Price OAM, CEO of Crime Stoppers said, we have seen explosive growth in tips submitted by the public online: 100% in the last 12 months alone. And not only in Australia. This, coupled with the growth in smart phones and tablet mobile computers has led us to pioneer a platform that is a mobile version of our current encrypted web site, so the public can use simple drop down menus, a simple point and finger click. Roasted Cauliflower
1 large cauliflower, cut into florets 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 2 tsp fresh marjoram, chopped teaspoon salt Freshly ground black pepper to taste 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar cup finely grated Parmesan cheese Preheat oven to 220C. Toss cauliflower, oil, marjoram, salt & pepper in a large bowl. Spread on a large, lined baking tray & roast until starting to soften & brown on the bottom, 15 to 20 minutes. Toss the cauliflower with vinegar & sprinkle with cheese. Return to oven & roast until the cheese is melted & moisture has evaporated, about 5 to 10 minutes. The roasting gives the cauliflower a lovely nutty flavour that goes well with beef, venison or lamb. Serve with a local red wine & enjoy the flavours.

There has been a spate of persons, so far unknown, deliberately opening gates around town, usually after dark, which allows stock to stray onto local roads. This practice is either simply mischievous or out of spite. For whatever reason, the likelihood of a serious car accident is highly probable with damage to the car, possible personal injury to say nothing of injury to the animals. Recently a gate was opened in Icely Street allowing a mare and foal to escape. It is much appreciated that somebody knocked on the door of the residence, not staying to be thanked, as a resultof this thoughtful gesture, the animals were thus quickly returned to the paddock. PENULTIMATE SWIMMING CLUB REPORT The list of improvers for swimming club is shorter this week as the 12 laps of the 400m freestyle championships took its toll. Three second improvements came from Amber Johnson in the 33m freestyle; Dominic Smyth in the 33m breaststroke and Maise Harrison in the 33m backstroke. Curtis Bennett took out the last spoon of the season in a personal best time of 25 seconds. This week is the Swimming Club AGM where the positions of Secretary, computer race secretary and pointscore accumulator are vacant, please consider taking on a position for a few years as without these there is no committee and no swimming club. Presentations will be after the AGM where championship and pointscore winners are announced over all the age groups. This will be followed by a sausage sizzle celebration for 2011-12 swimming season. The night kicks off at 6pm. BOWLS BONANZA Canowindra No5s flew out the barriers to lead by 20 shots midway through the game, only to be run down 5 ends from the finish. We went down 5 to 1 and this now gives Cowra a great position of the board with 11 points, Grenfell next on 4, and Canowindra on 3 points. We must beat Grenfell by 6 to 0 and then pray for Grenfell and us to defeat Cowra convincingly in the last rounds. This is possible if the rubs go the right way. So good luck this week boys! The Canowindra No7s reported the great hospitality from Caragabal club was the highlight of the afternoon. They put on a great barbeque for lunch for the team which was much appreciated by Canowindra players. The bowls - well the pitch had it flaws as the new surface is not yet down, and the boys found it hard to come to grips with the conditions. 6 to 0 loss Teams listed for next week are ,as you can see there is quite a few bowlers unavailable this week, so just go out and have some fun and enjoy the game and results may go our way. Canowindra Showground Trust have again opened the Canowindra Showground facility to accommodate the overflow of motor homes, caravans and people who wish to camp in Canowindra for the Canowindra Balloon Challenge 2012. Facilities include a powered motor-home, caravan or camp site and unpowered camping is also available. Canowindra Showground Secretary Bill Watson said The Showground Trust enjoy these challenges. We have been able to improve on facilities available to travelling people in the last twelve months. Toilets and showers have had some renovations which is excellent. All of these improvements are then passed onto the Canowindra community when they hold events and require use of the showground area. The Showground Trust take their responsibilities very seriously and will mow the area, clean the bathrooms every day in addition to providing a hall for recreational purposes. Costs for the sites are $15 per day which includes power plus $2 per day booking fee which is donated to the Canowindra Challenge. Unpowered camping is $10 per site. People interested in a site must contact the Age Of Fishes Museum on 02 6344 1008 or aof@colourcity.com to make an enquiry or a booking and pay the required deposit. People can call into the Museum where your booking will be promptly dealt with. At present there are 46 confirmed motor home sites booked, 35 caravans and a number of campers. There are 18 sites on hold for a club. Fiona Ferguson said. However bookings come in every day. We have some people who are staying three weeks while others are booked in for the balloon glow weekend. Ferguson added. Last year Canowindra enjoyed the influx of almost 100 motor homes, caravans and sites at the showground and this year is shaping up to be similar. The Canowindra Caravan Park has been booked out for some time so the showground is really parking the overflow of visitors and their vehicles. Neil and Ros Haywood have improved facilities with the Canowindra Caravan Park with the recent installation of the dump point for RVs and motor homes, adding to the goodwill they built on previous years, offering visitors a free barbecue, with wine donated by local vineyards.

PONY CLUB RALLY DAY Canowindra Pony Club are holding a full Rally Day this Sunday 1 April, commencing with gear check at 9.30 for a 10am start (don't forget Sunday is the end of Daylight Saving). Could all families please bring along something to share for morning tea, and also be prepared to lend a hand with a quick cleanup of the Club Rooms, serve in the canteen, or cook the BBQ. Our membership has grown considerably, and we're near full capacity, so we are expecting a good turn out of members to help - many hands make light work! We are still waiting on the new arena leveller and Bill would also like to tidy up the sand, so if you could bring along a hoe and rake to chip some weeds that would be much appreciated. If anyone is able to lend a hand for an hour on Friday afternoon to set up some jumps and sporting activities, please let Bill Watson or Andrew Holmes know, as we would be grateful for some assistance.
