Harrison, prosecutors
said.
Clare is already facing
separate charges for
engaging in a sexual rela-
tionship with another girl
who was a member of his
congregation at the
Harvest Worship Center
International, which is
affiliated with the academy
where he was principal.
Prosecutors said Clare
began that relationship in
April 2006, several
months before the vic-
tim' s 13th birthday and
continued through January
2010, sometime after the
victim's 16th birthday.
The pastor was mak-
ing a court appearance in
that case Thursday when
he was taken into custody
on the new charges, the
prosecutor's office said.
Clare was arraigned
on one count of second-
degree rape, one count of
sexual misconduct, three
counts of sexual abuse,
one count of third-degree
criminal sexual act and
endangering the welfare of
a child.
Clare was also
arraigned on these new
charges before State
Supreme Court Justice
Megan Tallmer. The judge
set bail on the new case at
$350, 000 cash or
$200, 000 bond and also
raised the bail on the first
case to $350, 000 cash or
$200, 000 bond.
Clare is now being
held in lieu of $700, 000
cash bail or $250, 000
bond. Justice Tallmer also
prohibited the defendant
from being around chil-
dren under 16 years old and
ordered the surrender of his
passport.
Clare's attorney, Paul
Brenner, said his client
was "totally innocent" and
called the case a "witch-
hunt" by the prosecution.
"We' ll work around the
clock to make sure my
client will be vindicated, "
he said.

arch of each year has been
celebrated as National
Nutrition Month for a nutrition
education and information cam-
paign created annually by the
Academy of Nutrition and
Dietetics. The campaign focuses
attention on the importance of
making informed food choices
and developing sound eating and
physical activity habits.
As the nation's food and
nutrition experts, registered dieti-
tians are committed to improving
the health of their patients and
community. Wednesday, March
14, 2012 was also celebrated as
Registered Dietitian Day as they
advocate for advancing the nutri-
tional status of people around the
world.
Food is an essential part of
our survival. We cannot do with-
out food.
But food is also responsible
for a number of our health-related
illnesses and death in many
instances, as we are not consum-
ing the correct food.
We frequently ignore or give
little attention to the type and
quantity of food we consume
daily. In these days of technologi-
cal advancement and information,
we cannot base our food and
nutritional needs on simply cul-
ture or traditions.
As a result of advanced
research, we are learning that sev-
eral foods that we have been con-
suming as kids are now discov-
ered to be cancer-causing or might
not be as nutritious as our grand-
parents once told us.
As we celebrate National
Nutrition Month, we are therefore
urging readers to consult with

who are sometimes called the
food and nutrition experts.

to get closer to your partner in every way.
Too often, I find that women will bend
over backwards to please their partners
without thinking of the consequences.
Yes, you might go along with this to
please your man, but really have you
thought about what you are doing to your-
self? Do not ever engage in something that
you will be embarrassed about in the
future.
At the end of the day, the only person
staring at you in the mirror is you, and so
if you dont want to engage in a threesome,
dont. But if you do because it is your fan-
tasy, go for it! Lets hope that my new man

Rangel To Pay Fine
For Using Apartment

ongressman Charles
Rangel has report-
edly agreed to pay a
$23,000 fine stemming
from his use of a rent-
stabilized apartment as a
campaign office.
According to the
New York Times, the fine
is part of a settlement between Rangel's
camp and the Federal Election
Commission, which ruled that Rangel's
use of the apartment amounted to an ille-
gal campaign contribution.
Rangel was censured by his col-
leagues in the House of Representatives
in 2010 for 11 ethics violations, including
using the apartment.

etectives Marc Cooper and Mike
Oliver, two police detectives
involved in the 2006 shooting death of
Sean Bell, officially ended their careers
with the NYPD on Monday.
A lieutenant, Gary Napoli is expected
to hand in his resignation on Tuesday.
All three will still get their pensions.
A third detective, Gescard Isnora, was
fired on Friday.
Isnora had fired the first
of the 50 shots that killed
Bell and injured two of
his friends.
All three detectives
were acquitted of criminal
charges in the case but
found guilty in a departmental trial.

A
fter a rise in complaints related to
Craigslist rental scams, Attorney
General Eric T. Schneiderman recently
issued a consumer alert urging New Yorkers
to protect themselves from fraud.
The Attorney General's regional offices
statewide have received a spike in reports
from New Yorkers who were victims or
almost fell victim to scams that lure con-
sumers into paying security deposits for
properties advertised on Craigslist, only to
discover the listings are fake. Victims have
lost anywhere from between $200 to $6,000.
"While these offers look appealing,
prospective renters must have a critical eye
when applying for rental properties on sites
like Craigslist," said Attorney General
Schneiderman.
The scam works in a variety of ways:
Scammers will use realtors multiple
listing services to find properties that are
legitimately for rent or sale. They take the
information, change the contact information
and offer a much lower price than the origi-
nal listing.
Oftentimes, scammers will offer a tele-
phone number without a functioning voice
mail setup, causing the potential renter to
contact them via e-mail.
Scammers' emails are typically poorly
written and may indicate the "owner" is on a
humanitarian mission in another country. E-
mails typically ask for a deposit to be wired
in exchange for a key to the house.

he Westchester Department of Social
Services took emergency steps Thursday
in an effort to keep the countys non mandat-
ed child care subsidy programs solvent until
the end of the year.
Analysis by the department shows the
programs, which serve families whose
incomes are low but above the federal pover-
ty level, will run out of money as early as July
31 if nothing is done to shore up their
finances.
The emergency steps include capping
the number of child care slots available
through the non mandated Title XX program
at its current number 206 and contacting
the state Office of Children and Family
Services to raise the amount of family contri-
butions, where applicable, to 35 percent from
20 percent of the portion of income that
exceeds the federal poverty level. This is the
same contribution level set by neighboring
New York City and many other counties
around the state.
Action is needed now or the programs
will run out of money, said DSS
Commissioner Kevin McGuire. The process
to change the family contribution level will
take about 60 to 90 days; the sooner we get
the higher contribution levels, the better
chance we have to maintain the program for
the full year because when the money runs
out the program has to stop.

A
federal court has permanently
barred Annie P. Williams, the for-
mer proprietor of PPH Tax &
Realty Inc. in Brooklyn, N.Y ., from prepar-
ing federal tax returns for others and from
having any ownership or financial interest
in any tax preparation business, the Justice
Department announced on Tuesday (March
20).
The civil injunction order, to which
Williams consented without admitting the
allegations against her, was entered by
Judge Dora L. Irizarry of the United States
District Court for the Eastern District of
New York.
According to the government com-
plaint in the case, Williams fostered an
environment at PPH in which her part-time
tax preparers, who had little or no tax expe-
rience, were encouraged to prepare fraudu-
lent tax returns.
The improper conduct alleged in the
complaint included preparing federal tax
returns that claimed false expense and char-
itable contribution deductions, bogus
dependents and unallowable child and child
care tax credits.
The complaint also alleged that, during
the time that Williams owned PPH, her
employees sold other persons names and
Social Security numbers to customers so
that the customers could falsely report that
those other persons were their child care
providers for purposes of falsely claiming
the child care tax credit.
Employees also allegedly sold fake
charitable contribution letters to customers
to present to the Internal Revenue Service
(IRS) during audits to substantiate false
deductions.
The IRS has listed tax return preparer
fraud as one of the Dirty Dozen tax scams
for 2012. The Justice Departments Tax
Division has obtained injunctions against
hundreds of unscrupulous tax return prepar-
ers and tax-fraud promoters in the past
decade. Information about these cases is
available on the Justice Department web-
site.

A Funeral
Procession?
W
ho cuts off a funeral procession?
Some people have no respect for the
living nor the dead. A funeral procession
is the last respect people pay to a deceased
person before they are laid to rest.
In states like Virginia and Florida, pro-
cessions have police escorts. In California,
for example, funeral processions have the
right of way. All vehicles traveling in a
funeral convoy must be accompanied by a
motorcycle escort.
Apparently, the minivan driver didn't
read the memo from Senator Ruth Hassell-
Thompson (D, West) of Mount Vernon,
New York.
On February 29, 2012, Senator
Thompson and her colleagues unanimous-
ly passed legislation (Senate Bill 3022) to
prohibit the disruption of a funeral proces-
sion by making it illegal for a driver of a
motor vehicle to unreasonably interfere
with the orderly movement of a funeral
procession.
Under the new law, it would be illegal
for a driver of a motor vehicle to enter the
space of two vehicles traveling single-file
in a funeral procession in a way that
unreasonably interferes with the proces-
sion.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at
my grandmother's funeral which led to a
procession of paramedics.

On March 10th, as the funeral proces-
sion proceeded toward an intersection, a
minivan collided into the limousine I was
in and sent us crashing into the Mega Mini
Market on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in
Springfield Gardens.
Taken to nearby hospitals after sus-
taining multiple injuries from the car acci-
dent, I was unable to attend the burial cer-
emony held later that day for my beloved
94-year-old grandmother. Not only did the
negligent woman driving the minivan cut
through the funeral procession, but to add
insult to injury, she was reportedly talking
on her cell phone when the accident
occurred.
She won't be happy when the DMV
imposes a two-point penalty on her license
for using her cell phone while driving.
On February 16th, the Department of
Motor Vehicles began imposing a two-
point penalty on a person's license to any-
one found guilty of using their mobile
device while driving, including a $100
fine. The DMV estimates that one in five
crashes in New York is caused by a dis-
tracted driver.
What was the woman's rush? Did she
not see the funeral procession of mourn-
ers? Why was she on her cell phone while
driving? Did she not know that it is a civil
infraction to cut through a funeral proces-
sion?

he Westchester County District
Attorney's Office on Monday (March 26)
announced that Derrick Suits Robinson, 29,
of White Plains, New York, and Emmanuel
Kojo Bentil, 47, of White Plains, New York
were arraigned on a felony complaint in a
concert scheme related to Taylor Swift.
The felony complaint charged them with
one count of Grand Larceny and two counts
of Criminal Possession of a Forged
Instrument.
The defendants, between November 30,
2009 and January 22, 2010, while acting in
concert stole approximately $225,000 from
Kachik Mouradian, CEO of Omega Alpha
Enterprises of Los Angeles, California, an
investor, by falsely representing to
Mouradian that they were affiliated with
agents for the Country/Pop singer Taylor
Swift.
The defendants convinced Mouradian to
initially invest $375,000 in a fictitious con-
cert featuring Taylor Swift which was sched-
uled to take place in March of 2010 in
Phoenix, Arizona.
In order to convince Kachik Mouradian
to invest in the concert, Bentil, a New York
attorney, presented Mouradian with two ficti-
tious documents which were ostensibly
signed by Michael Schweiger, CEO of
Central Entertainment Group (CEG Talent) of
New York City.
On December 7, 2009, Bentil presented
Mouradian with an Artist Offer Letter bear-
ing the forged signature of Michael
Schweiger, which stated that Michael
Schweiger was an authorized representative
of Taylor Swift and had entered into an agree-
ment to have Taylor Swift perform in a con-
cert in March of 2010.
On January 11, 2010, Bentil created a
Performance Agreement ostensibly signed
by Michael Schweiger which specified that
an agreement had been reached for Taylor
Swift to perform in a concert in Phoenix,
Arizona on March 9, 2010 in exchange for the
sum of $500,000 and other considerations.
In presenting the aforementioned Artist
Offer Letter and Performance Agreement
to Kachik Mouradian for his signature, not
only did the defendants falsely represent that
CEG Talent was authorized to act on behalf of
Taylor Swift, but also that the signature on
said Artist Offer Letter and Performance
Agreement purporting to be that of Michael
Schweiger, was in fact a forgery.
Bentil subsequently returned $150,000
of the initial investment when confronted by
Mouradian regarding the deception by the
defendants.

deported
from Antigua
T
hree Jamaicans have been deported
from Antigua and Barbuda after over-
staying their time in the country.
Alicia Almarie Smith, her
boyfriend Anthony Junior Anderson and
Michael Augustus Clarke were ordered
removed by magistrates.
They all pleaded guilty to remain-
ing in the country after the expiration
of their permits.
Miss Smith, who is 35, was
detained by members of the Royal
Police Force and handed over to the
Immigration Department.
Her passport was checked and it was
discovered that she arrived in the coun-
try on September 22, 2009 and given
time to stay until September 29.
Her 28-year-old boyfriend also
never received any further extension.
Records showed that he was taken
into police custody on June 24, 2010,
but he absconded and left his passport at
the station. Mr. Clarke went to Antigua
via boat at English Harbour on January
26, of this year.
When checks were made at the
Immigration Department there was no
documentation of him being granted
permission to land. The Jamaican man
told the court that his boat was stolen.
Jamaican Gov to issue
Diaspora bond in August

T
he Government's plan to raise one bil-
lion US dollars through the issue of a
Diaspora bond in August is reportedly
generating significant interest from
Jamaicans overseas.
The plan is to use the bond to attract a
share of the estimated 5 billion US dollars
saved annually by Jamaicans and persons
of Jamaican descent living overseas.
The investment concept involves
marketing and selling the bonds to the
more than two million Jamaicans in the
Diaspora as an alternative to sourcing of
hard currency by way of global bonds
issued by the Government. The bond
issue, which is supported by the World
Bank, is set to coincide with Jamaica 50
celebrations.
Caribbean shipping
charges 30% higher
than world average
T
he cost of shipping and port charges in
the Caribbean is some 30 percent
higher than the world average. Thats
according to statistics from the Canada-
based Centre for International Governance
Innovation (CIGI).
CIGI reportedly says the Caribbean
maritime infrastructure needs to undergo a
major physical, legislative and labour
practices overhaul in order to be sustain-
able and efficient.
In the paper entitled The Caribbean
Maritime Transportation Sector:
Achieving Sustainability through
Efficiency, Fritz Pinnock and Ibrahim
Ajagunna say, It is not surprising that
handling charges are two or three times
higher than in similar ports in other
regions of the world, and the overall cost
of transportation and infrastructure in the
Caribbean basin is some 30 percent high-
er than the world average.
Pinnock, the executive director at the
Caribbean Maritime Institute, reportedly
used primary and secondary research to
analyze labour challenges and efforts of
regional cooperation among other port-
related indicators of efficiency.

ealth authorities in Barbados are
reporting a slight increase in
dengue fever since the start of the year.
They're now appealing to Barbadians
to ensure they destroy possible breed-
ing places for the Aedes Aegypti mos-
quito.
Figures released by the Ministry of
Health indicate that there were 53 con-
firmed dengue cases at the beginning
of the year, compared with 45 cases for
the first 10 weeks of the corresponding
period in 2011.
The health officials say the number
of people hospitalized with the condi-
tion, which is spread by the Aedes
Aegypti mosquito, is also up this year
compared with the previous year.
Of the 53 cases, 10 people are hos-
pitalized, including one with dengue
haemorrhagic fever.

he highly anticipated sentencing for
reputed drug lord Christopher "Dudus"
Coke did not take place Friday afternoon
as was widely expected in a Manhattan
Federal Court in the United States.
The sentencing hearing was again
put off, as there was disagreement over
what allegations will be used in determin-
ing how long Coke spends behind bars.
Coke pleaded guilty last August to
racketeering and conspiracy charges
stemming from his involvement in traf-
ficking large quantities of ganja and
cocaine as well as approving the stabbing
of a ganja dealer in New York.
He faces a maximum 23 years in
prison. In Fridays hearing which lasted
under an hour, Federal Judge Robert P.
Patterson determined that the prosecu-
tion's allegations of murder and torture in
its sentencing memorandum were not sup-
ported by evidence.
He therefore ruled that federal prose-
cutors must prove that Coke's life of vio-
lence extended far
beyond his admit-
ted crimes.
Coke's defense
lawyers have also
denounced letters
which were report-
edly sent to the
court by several
Jamaicans who
alleged gang rape,
domestic slavery
and torture of
women.
An evidentiary hearing is scheduled
for 8:30 Jamaican time on the morning of
May 22 in New York to decide what
aspects of the evidence will be used in
determining the sentence imposed on
Coke.
May 22 is two days before the second
anniversary of the Tivoli incursion by the
security forces to execute a warrant for
Coke's arrest.

Services Fraud

I
n June 2011, the United
States Government
announced a nationwide
crackdown on frauds relat-
ed to immigration servic-
es. Immigration services
fraud schemes, sometimes
called Notario scams,
prey upon vulnerable indi-
viduals who are in this
country legally and trying
to abide by the rules.
Scammers often
promise expert legal help
(even though theyre not
experts or lawyers) or say
that they will speed up the
immigration process (even
though they cant) or
claim to be part of the gov-
ernment (even though
theyre not).
They take up front
fees and often leave people
worse off. The Consumer
Protection Branch of the
Department of Justice is
continuing to root out and
prosecute these immigra-
tion service scams.
Just last month, feder-
al prosecutors announced
the indictment of three
people on fraud charges
related to a Missouri com-
pany known as
Immigration Forms and
Publications.
According to the
indictment, the company
charged consumers hun-
dreds of dollars up front for
help in filling out and fil-
ing government immigra-
tion forms.
In sales calls, compa-
ny sales staff falsely iden-
tified employees as immi-
gration agents, fraudu-
lently claimed that the
company handled over-
load calls for the govern-
ment, and wrongly said
that the money customers
paid the company would
cover government pro-
cessing fees for the forms.

A Stokes Interview
in a green card applica-
tion based on marriage
refers to an interview
when the husband and
wife are questioned sepa-
rately, and their answers
are compared by an
Immigration Officer
(IO).
A Stokes Interview
(also known as "mar-
riage fraud interview") is
usually a second inter-
view. The goal is to
determine whether the
marriage was entered
into in good faith and
whether the marriage is
bona fide or real.
When an individual
applies for his or her
spouse for United States
Permanent Residence,
there is a requirement to
demonstrate to a United
States Citizenship and
Immigration Service
(USCIS) official that the
marriage was entered in
good faith, and not for
the purpose of evading
immigration law.
As a result, couples
are asked to provide suf-
ficient documents and go
through an interview at
a USCIS office where
they will answer ques-
tions about their mar-
riage and life together.
This first interview usu-
ally lasts about 1-2
hours, and the questions
are generally not intru-
sive.
However, if the
Immigration Officer
conducting the first
interview is not entirely
satisfied and still has
questions about the mar-
riage, she will schedule
a second interview
known as the "Stokes
Interview."
During a Stokes
Interview, the husband
and wife are separated
from each other and
must answer a series of
questions that are per-
sonal and sometimes
very invasive.
A Stokes Interview
can last several hours,
depending on the
Immigration Officer and
the complexity of the
situation. It is important
to stay calm and to
answer all the questions
truthfully.
If you do not
remember the answer to
a question, it is best to
say so. Since a Stokes
Interview happens only
after the IO already has
some doubt about the
genuineness of the mar-
riage, one can expect a
long and exhausting
interview.
The interview will
be taped and the state-
ments obtained will be
compared against each
other. If the answers
match very well it is a
good indication that the
marital relationship is
bona fide. If not, the
couple will be called in
together after their indi-
vidual interviews and
given a chance to
explain the discrepan-
cies.
Beyond the inter-
view, the examiner also
considers other evidence.
Examples are joint tax
returns, insurance poli-
cies, rent receipts and
joint bank accounts.
After obtaining the evi-
dence and coupled with
the interview, the
Immigration Officer
will make a determina-
tion as to the bona fides
of the marriage and
whether a green card will
be issued.
Your attorney is
allowed to accompany
you to the interview, and
his/her presence may
help during the process
especially if it is a rather
complicated one.
Since the Stokes
Interview is critical in
your green card applica-
tion, you will want to
discuss with your attor-
ney the things you need
to pay special attention
to.

in Crown Heights fought it out
Sunday three months after the
Jews surprised the islanders in
their first match in December by
trouncing them.
Twenty years after the
Crown Heights riots, soccer is
bringing the diverse Crown
Heights community together.
The tournament supports soccer
programs for underprivileged
youth in central Brooklyn, a
zone in the middle of an obesity
epidemic lacking access to fresh
food and fitness where bored
youth can also be lured into vio-
lence. Donations welcome!
Both teams fought hard, but
this time the Caribbean players
prevailed in a 4-2 win. Mendy's
Deli, short on players, at one
time had to borrow a Caribbean
player to fill out the team - and
then asked two bystanders to
join them.
One player was dismayed
that this time the Caribbean
crew weren't taking any chances
- and replaced all their players in
the second half.
Now Mendy's Deli wants a
rematch!
As a further hint of harmo-
ny, one of the Jewish players -
still sporting his orange Soccer
for Harmony shirt - jumped into
a pick up game started right after
the match by another group of
Afro-Caribbean soccer players.
On Dec. 18 - in their unprece-
dented first game - Mendy's Deli
trounced two Caribbean teams.
"We thought they just studied all
the time!" grumbled one player

any factors affect our capac-
ity to parent and ultimately-
our parenting techniques: unfore-
seen illness, stress at the job, earli-
er experiences of neglect or trau-
ma, and failed relationships.
For instance, it is not uncom-
mon for parents, particularly
mothers, who are going through a
separation or divorce to experience
feelings of guilt over the broken
relationship. They may feel that
because of the failed relationship,
their children are somehow at a
disadvantage.
As a result, the parent may
become more indulgent or protec-
tive towards the child. They now
cannot tolerate seeing their child in
pain or distress, always ready for
an opportunity to save the child
from any sadness, hurt or pain.
This quickly unfolds into a
pattern of behaviors in which the
parent lessens boundaries, expec-
tations and limits over time
because of experiences of guilt.
A life without pain is detri-
mental for a child; its absence
results in the failure to develop
ways to develop self-soothing
strategies in the absence of the par-
ent.
During the toddler years, chil-
dren begin to learn how to regulate
their feelings and self-soothe. Self-
regulation refers to a range of char-
acteristics and abilities. A child
with self-regulatory skills is able
to focus his attention, control his
emotions and manage his thinking,
behavior and feelings. Self-regula-
tion is also related to the develop-
ment of frustration tolerance,

Over time, the indulged tod-
dler evolves into a child who
throws tantrums when he does not
get his way. His behavior at home
may include chore refusal, hostili-
ty towards others, and outbursts.
His working model of the world is
that his needs must be immediate-
ly gratified and when they are not,
he explodes because of an inability
to cope with the pain and frustra-
tion of his needs being unmet.
Children who grow up in lov-
ing, stable environments with pre-
dictable routines and structure are
better at developing self-regulato-
ry skills than children who grow
up in disadvantaged environments
where they lack stability and rou-
tines and where their families are
exposed to high levels of stress.
Children who have difficulty
with self-regulation also tend to
have trouble with learning and
academics and are at risk for prob-
lems with aggression, antisocial
behavior and depression.
To strengthen your childs
self-regulation skills, there are a
number of things you can do. First,
model appropriate coping when
you are frustrated or angry. Your
child will learn what to do by
watching how you handle stress.
Next, help your child label
feelings accurately by openly talk-
ing about feelings, both positive
and negative. Even if things are
not ideal, create a routine for your
child and structure the environ-
ment the best way you can by
explaining your expectations for
behavior and positive and negative
consequences to keeping or break-
ing rules.
Help your child practice
appropriate ways to get relief
when angry or frustrated, such as
counting to 10 or taking a break.
Most importantly, remember to
remain calm at all times: it can be
difficult dealing with a child with
limited self-regulation skills.

JAMAICAN HIGH SCHOOL AMONG TOP PERFORMERS AT INTERNATIONAL ROBOTICS
COMPETITION: Jamaica College took third place at the recently held US FIRST Robotics Tech
Challenge at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. A large and enthusiastic crowd,
including the alumni community, was on hand to cheer on the Jamaica College Robotics team, the
Gold Griffins, the only Caribbean high school team participating in the NY/NJ tournament. In only
their third year of competition, the Gold Griffins battled 71 US high schools to emerge bronze
medalists. With a team of 13 students ranging from first through sixth form and three faculty advi-
sors, the JC Robotics Club labored for months in designing, constructing and testing their robot to
meet the demanding standards of the game developed by US FIRST. Team members had to
become proficient in software programming, electrical, electronic & mechanical design and con-
struction. The team received technical assistance from students at the University of Technology -
Faculty of Engineering & Computing under an agreement arranged by the Digital Yard Innovation
Project. The robotics initiative was conceived in 2009 by the JC Old Boys Association of New York
Inc. with the objective of exciting students at JC and in Jamaica about science, technology, engi-
neering and mathematics (STEM). Team sponsors included Dennis Shipping, Mothers and
Wisynco Group through its WATA brand.

Every year, students enrolled
in grades 9-12 are given the oppor-
tunity to submit artwork for the
contest.
Each participating congres-
sional district will select a winning
entry to have the honor of hanging
in the United States Capitol from
June 20, 2012 through early May
2013. All students in the Bronx,
Rockland and Westchester
Counties are being encouraged to
enter the competition by submit-
ting an entry. Additionally, the stu-
dent chosen as the 17th District's
first-place winner may be eligible
to receive a scholarship to an art
and design school.
In order for a submission to be
considered, it must follow certain
guidelines:
Must be two-dimensional.
Must have a frame smaller than
28 x 28 x 4 and cannot weigh
more than 15 lbs.
Must be original in concept,
design and execution and may not
violate any U.S. copyright laws.
A photo of the piece of artwork

I
n keeping with numerous
requests of its clients, Bronxs
leading beauty salon, New
Beginnings Salon, recently estab-
lished a Natural Hair Center.
According to the CEO and master
stylist Pauline Fairclough, the center
specializes in styling, cutting and
grooming natural hair, lock start-up
and maintenance, braiding with or
without extensions, healthy hair weav-
ing and many other unique techniques.
The salon is targeting anybody
who grows natural hair including
members of the Rastafarian communi-
ties, as well as children.
Growing natural kinky black hair

I can only imagine the stress and anxiety
you are experiencing. My heart goes out to

As you clearly point out in your let-
ter, sexual orientation is not a choice, but
something a person is born with. Not
knowing your guardians, or your inner cir-
cle of friends, I can't predict how they will
react if you tell them you are gay.
But if your instincts tell you that your
family will react badly, then I advise you
to wait to come out until you are out of
their house and self-supporting.

ating right doesnt have to be
complicated. Before you eat,
think about what goes on your plate
or in your bowl. Choose foods that
provide the nutrients you need with-
out too many calories. Build your
healthy plate with foods like vegeta-
bles, fruits, whole grains, low-fat
dairy and lean protein foods. Try
these eating right tips.
Make half your
plate fruits and vegetables.
Eat a variety of vegetables, especial-
ly dark green, red and orange vegeta-
bles plus beans and peas. Fresh,
frozen and canned vegetables all
count. Choose reduced sodium or
no-salt-added canned vegetables.
Add fruit to meals and snacks. Buy
fruits that are dried, frozen or canned
in water or 100% juice, as well as
fresh fruits.
Make at least half
your grains whole.
Choose 100% whole-grain breads,
cereals, crackers, pasta and brown
rice. Also, look for fiber-rich cereals
to help stay regular.
Switch to fat-free or
low-fat milk, yogurt and cheese.
Older adults need more calcium and
vitamin D to help keep bones
healthy. Include three servings of fat-
free or low-fat milk, yogurt or cheese
each day. If you are lactose-intoler-
ant, try lactose-free milk or a calci-
um-fortified soy beverage.

Vary your protein choices.
Eat a variety of foods from the pro-
tein food group each week, such as
seafood, nuts, and beans and peas, as

you buy. Compare sodium in foods
and choose those with lower num-
bers. Add spices or herbs to seasoned
food without adding salt.
Make major sources of saturated fats
such as desserts, pizza, cheese,
sausages and hot dogs occasional
choices, not everyday foods.
Switch from solid fats to
oils when preparing food.
Drink water instead of sugary drinks.
Select fruit for dessert. Eat sugary
desserts less often.
Enjoy your food but eat less.
Most older adults need fewer calo-
ries than in younger years. Avoid
oversized portions. Try using a
smaller plate, bowl and glass.
Cook more often at home, where you
are in control of whats in your food.

reast cancer is the most com-
mon cancer among women,
and is second only to lung cancer
as the leading cause of death for
women.
Research has identified a
number of factors that may play a
role in its development, but much
about the causes of breast cancer
remains unknown.
Environmental links have
been identified, but they tend to be
difficult to prove. A number of
studies have linked chemical
exposure to breast cancer, but the
bulk of the research has focused
on the chemicals women put
directly on their bodies, such as
those found in cosmetics, deodor-
ants and shampoos, rather than on
chemicals women may be regular-
ly exposed to in their homes.
One study released last year,
however, revealed that regular use
of common household cleaning
products and air fresheners may
double a womans risk for breast
cancer.
These findings came just a
few months after the release of a
ground breaking government
report stating that unregulated
chemicals in the environment pose
a serious threat to health and may
increase the incidence of some
cancers.
Researchers surveyed over
1,500 women 787 of whom had
breast cancer, and 721 of whom
did not to try to identify links
between exposure to common
chemicals and development of
breast cancer.
According to their findings,
which were published in
Environmental Health, breast can-
cer risk among women who
reported the most use of house-
hold cleaners and air fresheners
was double that of those women
who reported the least use of such
products.

omets Club International (CCI), a New
York City-based charitable organiza-
tion, will recognize two individuals for
their outstanding contribution and com-
mitment to community development
through education, culture and business.
CCI will present awards and citations
to entrepreneur Roland Brammer for his
work with a number of organizations focus-
ing on youth, while Richie Stephens,
Cultural Ambassador-at-Large, gets the nod
for his steadfast love for country through
his music and mentorship.
The awards ceremony highlights the
organizations annual reunion dinner
which will take place this year at the
Venetian Terrace Ballroom, 86-15 114th
Street, Richmond Hill, Queens, NY, on
Saturday, April 14 at 9:00 pm.
ABrooklyn resident, Brammers cred-
its include two Subway Restaurant fran-
chises in Brooklyn, a tax accounting prac-
tice and a journalist.
He will be presented with the CCI
CODPAR (Community Development
Partnership) Award National Class for
his work with the Union of Jamaican
Alumni Associations (UJAA) and the
NAACP NYC ACT-SO Program.
Being able to mentor the students
who come through the UJAA (USA), Inc. ,
High School Graduates Awards program and
the NAACP Olympics of the Mind (ACT-
SO) program here in the city, mirrors my
youth growing up in Kingston, Jamaica,
and so Im extremely honored to be recog-
nized by the Comets Club International,
noted Brammer, a Jamaica College (JC)
alum and one-time assistant editor with the
Weekly Gleaner, NA.
Stephens, who last year turned tragedy
(death of his son) into triumph with not
one but two top ten singles, has already
earned his place alongside the icons of the
reggae genre. As a Cultural Ambassador,
his work for the Jamaica Tourist Board
speaks volumes and has earned him numer-
ous awards and accolades worldwide. He
will be presented with the CCI CODPAR
Award International Class.
So far, 2011 has carried over into
2012 following the release of the chart-
topping single Live Your Life featuring
Gentleman, the German Reggae recording
phenom. The song was voted Song of the
Year on Irie Jam Radios Top 100 Songs for
2011.

here is Hell? The
Scriptures indicates it
is somewhere beneath,
down, away from God. The way
of life is above to the wise,
that he may depart from hell
beneath (Prov. 15:24).
And thoushall be
brought down to hell
(Math. 11:23). There is a great
gulf fixed: so that they which
would pass from hence to you
cannot; neither can they pass
to us, that would come from
thence (Luke 16 :26 ).
Who Will Go?. The wicked
shall be turned into Hell, and all
nations that forget God (Psalms
9:17). The Lord Jesus shall be
revealed from Heaven with his
mighty angels, in flaming fire
taking vengeance on them that
knownot God, and that obey not
the gospel of our Lord Jesus
Christ: Who shall be punished
with everlasting destruction (2
Thes. 1:7-8).
And whosoever was not
found written in the book of life
was cast into the lake of fire
(Rev. 20:15) along with that
group recorded in (Revelation
21:8).
What Will The Lost Do In
Hell?. . . They will weep and
gnash their teeth (Math. 22:
13), they will look upon the
consolation and happiness of
the redeemed in Heaven, know-
ing that they will never be
relieved from these unbearable
torments. This is the biblical
account about the rich man and
the beggar Lazarus, recorded in
(Luke 16:23-24).
God spared not the angels
that sinned, but cast them down
to helland if you are currently
an unbeliever, or dishonest, or a
slave of lust of the flesh, and
shoulddie this way: youtoo will
be cast into hell. How can you
escape the damnation of hell
(Matt. 23:33). And you will
cryand said JESUS, have
mercy on me, but it will be too
late.
And the smoke of their tor-
ment ascendeth up forever and
ever: and they have no rest day
or night (Rev. 14:10-11).
Soon our time on earth will be
over. The important question is,
will our work have been done?
When we have the opportunity
to witness for Christ to some
sin-sick soul and we fail, then
that opportunity is past.
If that poor soul goes to hell
naturally without Christ where
will that leave us? How will we
answer for our neglect?
The Lord said through the
prophet Ezekiel, When I say
unto the wicked, Thou shalt sure-
ly die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor speakest to warn
the wicked from his evil way, to
save his life; the same wicked
man shall die in his iniquity; but
his BLOODwill I require at thine
hand. (Ezekiel 3: 18).
All believers reading this
verse and the next four verses in
the same chapter, should really
tremble to realize our so great
responsibility.
If you are a Christian who
has forgotten your covenant
promises, you must regain that
knowledge of the terrible fate of
the lost to really be a true wit-
ness.
Our hearts must be filled
with the Love of God and our
lives must be filled with the
Holy Spirit for us to stop play
church: and rise to the challenge
of our day with confidence and
Christian principles.
Christians, Jesus is com-
ingWill our work be finished,
or will we miss the gift of eternal
salvation? Whatever, we must do
for the Lord---we must do it now:
For he that shall come, and will
tarry (Heb. 10:37).
