Q1 A. How do I apply to study in Singapore?

Application procedures are dependent on the type of institutions the students are applying to. In general, you need to check the procedures with the educational institution of your choice. What are the entry requirements to study at educational institutions in Singapore?

Government, Government Aided and Independent Schools International students without DP, IEO and whose parents are not SC/SPR and who wish to seek school admission to Primary 2 13 levels in mainstream public primary and secondary schools respectively are to take part in the Admissions Exercise for Inte (AEIS).

Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) AEIS involves a centralised test on English and Mathematics, and applicants who pass the test would automatically be offered a school, based on available school vacancies and their performance in the centralised test. Applying Directly to Schools International students without DP, IEO and whose parents are not SC/SPR and who are seeking admission to Primary 25 and are unable to make it for the AEIS exercise and those who are seeking admission to Primary 1 or JCs may approach their scho to apply for admission. For other private, foreign system, international schools and universities, polytechnics or institute of technical education:

Some institutions or courses may require you to undergo an interview or placement test. What is the difference between private and public institutions? Public Schools are government schools. They are registered and managed by the Ministry of Education, Singapore. In Singapore, there are 11 gazetted public holidays and three scheduled school holidays in a calendar year. For more details on scheduled school and public holidays, click here.

Private Schools - There are various types of private schools in Singapore. Private schools are generally run by private compan organisations. There are also some private institutions that receive public funds, eg. NAFA (The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Management University) and LASALLE-SIA college of the Arts.

Do I need a Visa and Student's Pass to study in Singapore?

A foreigner must apply for a Student's Pass if he/she has been accepted by an educational institution to pursue full-time studies unless he/she is a:.

Dependant's Pass holder studying in a Government/ Government-Aided/ Independent school/ Foreign System School/ registered with MOE or Childcare centre licensed by MCYS; Immigration Exemption Order holder; or Visitor who has been granted a short term Visit Pass at the Singapore Checkpoint and wish to attend a short course tha within the validity of the initial Visit Pass granted to him/her at the Singapore Checkpoint or 30 days, whichever is shorte

Upon receiving the Letter of Acceptance from the school which is valid for 2 weeks, the applicant must proceed to the Immigrati Authority (ICA) to apply for a Students Pass. For applicants who require a visa to enter Singapore, please ensure that your app

The S Pass allows mid-level skilled foreigners who earn a fixed monthly salary of at least $1,800 to work in Singapore. Employers must make S Pass applications on behalf of a job candidate. S Pass applications are assessed on multiple criteria including salary, education qualification, skills, job type and work experience.

Eligibility Mid-level skilled foreigners (e.g. technicians) who wish to work in Singapore may apply for an S Pass. Applicants will be assessed on a points system, taking into account multiple criteria. S Pass applicants accumulate points based on how far they meet the criteria. As a general guide, these criteria can be broadly described as (for illustrative purposes only): A minimum fixed monthly salary of $1,800 Educational qualifications A degree, diploma Technical certificates can be considered. These are, very broadly, courses that train the applicant to be a qualified technician or specialist in their chosen field. The certification should comprise of at least one year of full-time study. Type of job (e.g. professional, specialist or technician) Number of years of relevant work experience Work Permit holders who wish to apply for the S Pass must ensure that they meet the above requirements.

Quota The number of S Pass holders a company can employ is capped at a sub-quota, or Dependency Ceiling (DC), of 25% of the company's total workforce.

Medical Insurance The requirement to purchase and maintain medical insurance is a Condition of an S Pass. For medical insurance policies taken up or renewed on/or after 1 Jan 2010, the insurance coverage must be at least $15,000 per year for each worker's inpatient care and day surgery during his/her stay in Singapore.

Passes for Family Members S Pass applicants whose fixed monthly salary is more than $2,500 a month may apply for the Dependant's Pass (DP) for their family members. The DP application and supporting documents may be submitted together with the S Pass application or separately.

S Pass holders who earn less than $2,500 per month are not allowed to bring in their dependants, i.e. spouses, children and other family members. However, if the children of such S Pass holders wish to study in mainstream public schools in Singapore, they will have to pass a Qualifying Test (QT) or the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS).
