Introduction:

The colleges online library management system faces some traffic inside the library and its system, and that is many student use the library in an extended period of time and as a result it causes traffic and delays in the library, and that other students cant fulfill their studies or borrow a book from the system online. To proof it, a questionnaire was distributed in the library to the students, and some of them noted that the library should have more strict rules to students, and to implement a timetable or give every student an amount of time to use the library, and when the his/her time schedule ends, another student will take the former student time slot. These are the problems and some proofs from the students that the library should have a better online management system, to make the work easy and smooth for the students.

Objectives of the project:

The project aims to manage the library online, by using applications that can give an amount of time credit to each person who borrows a book, and to notify the borrower via e-mail if the deadline for returning the book has reached. And so the traffic can be avoided. Specifically, it aims to: 1. Give each person a time credit for using the library. 2. Every desk in the library has countdown timing for each person. 3. PCs are assigned with the countdown too. 4. The borrower will be notified via e-mail if the deadline for returning the book has reached.

System Requirements:

Functional requirements: Behavioral requirements:

o The System must give each student a time credit for using the library. o The system must every PC with a countdown timer. o The system must notify the borrower via e-mail if the deadline has reached for returning the book.

Data requirements:
o It has a characteristic of providing time credit for each student in an accurate manner.

Integration requirements:
o The system should integrate with the current library system. o The system should work with any Operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux), and with any web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera). o The system should connect with the SQU online library system.

The system should be accessible with any registered student in the college, and provide guidelines on how the time credit will function.

The system should provide printed or digital tutorials on how to use the system.

The system should be turned off if not in use, and the system must backup the students data in an external storage device.

The system must be available through the entire academic year of the college, 24 hours a day.

The system must respond to the assigned student immediately who will use the library and who will borrow a book, to provide a time credit or a deadline notification.

The system must accept only registered student in the college, which will accept by the ID number and password.

o Data security requirements:

There must be a regular maintenance of the system, and remove harmful programs if occurred.

Operational requirements: o Hardware and software requirements:

The system must have special software for counting the time credit.

o Network requirements:
The system must provide a college e-mail to the students.

Conclusion:
Based on the findings from the questionnaire, the questionnaire was distributed in the library of the college for 10 male students. Only 20% of the students use the library once a month, 10% of the students use the library twice a month and 70% of the students use the library more than three times a month. The students answered for what purpose are they using the library, and the results are: only 10% of them agreed that they use the library for reading a book, 70% of them use the library to study for an exam and 20% of the students use the library for other reasons. It is found that 50% of the students attend the library in the morning, 30% in the afternoon and only 20% of the students attend the library in the evening. It is observed that 90% of the students are comfortable in the library, but only 10% are not, because the library is too crowded. It is noticed that 60% of the students talk to friends and use the mobile phone while in the library, but only 40% do not talk to friends and do not use the mobile phone, because they dont want to disturb other students while in the library. It is found that the majority of the students agreed that the college should put some rules (e.g. timetable) and increase the area of the library the students who wants to use the library to avoid traffic. On the other hand, minority of the students suggested that students, who dont want to use the library or using it for other reasons than studying or reading, they dont have to attend the library for avoiding the traffic too. And other suggested that the college should build a new library and to add extra free classes for business and I.T. students.

The interview was with Miss Halah, she is doing the daily requisition by lending books to lecturers and students. It was a comfortable and clear interview. The interviewee said that the books come from tenders, and also from broad countries (e.g. UK, Canada), and stated that the objectives of the online library is to make the students and the staff lifes easier. And she informed that the online library started 12 years back, and the system has been changed only twice. On talking about the problems and issues facing the online library system she said that the online library system is functioning properly and they always work on it to maintain the system to make it easy to use. And she add that the students information is protected by the ETC (Database section) has a backup server.

She quoted that The online library system is covering all the needs of the college, and the college wishes to connect with the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) online library system for more benefits.

The requirements of the online library system is comprehensive, all the functional and non functional requirements are listed. That indicates that the online library management system requires good and easy user interface, data and security protection. The system should be available 24 hours a day during the academic year with a fast response to the user. Operation of the system must come from special software, and it requires sending email notification to the students.
