By: Drs. R. Gayer & J. Jones, 1989. Proceedings of the Ussher Society.
44
Theory:
Tracing the turbidite facies along 40km of the Cornish and Devon coast line, from Tintagel to Bideford, has revealed at least three major regressive sequences. They are bound by four major structural highs or fault blocks: 1. south of Millook haven 2. near Upton town 3. around Hartland point, Greencliff and the L.S. fault 4. north of Bideford. Late Variscan movement on the L.S. fault may offset the northern regressive sequence by an estimated dextral strike slip displacement of 6km minimum.
Compare with the model of Gayer & Jones (1989) which shows the two major blocks south and north of the Culm basin.
