Pajhwok News Agency/Center for International Journalism (CIJ) June September 2010 Trainer and Consultant Kabul Afghanistan Trained editors and photographers for Pajhwok (www.pajhwok.com), Afghanistans first independent news agency and helped streamline their photo department operations as follow-up to a 2005 training workshop. After month-long on-site term, provided six month online consultancy. Knight International Press Fellowship Program October 2005 May 2006 Fellow - Alexandria and Cairo, Egypt; Amman, Jordan Conducted photo and new media training with individual newspapers and a national wire service; ran several workshops open to journalists from a variety of publications. Worked with Egyptian media outlets in coverage of parliamentary and presidential elections. International Center for Journalists, Washington, DC July 2005 Trainer Moscow , Russia Worked with professional Russian news photographers in two intermediate and advanced weeklong photojournalism workshops. Material ranged from basic theories of composition to digital photography to professional ethics. The workshop was co-sponsored by the Eurasia Foundation. PRIOR ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE


The International Center of Photography, New York, NY 2003-2008 Lecturer Created and taught a six-week course entitled Writing for Photojournalists, which, as the title suggests, aims to bolster photographers skills in writing photo captions, story pitches, and grant proposals. Additional course work includes the co-instruction of New York: The Photo Project, the core, first-semester photo course for full-time photojournalism students. Purchase College - State University of New York, Purchase, NY 1998-2007 Journalism Instructor and Faculty Advisor for the Student Newspaper Taught Journalism I, Journalism II and Photojournalism; oversaw student newspaper; helped design the curricula and major (as the first full-time instructor when the program began 14 years ago).
