METHOD OF WORK This statement involves the application of thermal insulation, including vapour barriers, to pipework and ductwork carrying conditioned and recovered air. 1) Labour resourcing. This will be as required to programme of works or agreement with site co-ordinator. 2) Insulation materials will be delivered to site packaged in either cardboard cartons or PVC wrapping. 3) These materials will be off loaded by AHW operatives and stored in a sound dry area designated by the main contractor. Due to the fibrous/brittle nature of the materials, storage should be away from working areas as use by other trades of cartons as workbenches will cause damage. 4) Operatives to be site inducted and site registered. 5) Access equipment will be in the form of tubular scaffolding, frame towers (both steel and aluminium) and steps where permitted. All as per our Health and Safety Policy. 6) H & V Foil sectional insulation should be applied giving the minimum of circumferential joints. BASIC SAFETY METHOD STATEMENTS AND RISK ASSESSMENTS RISK ASSESSMENTS The risk to personnel carrying out a task consists of two elements: a) The LIKELIHOOD of an accident occurring b) The CONSEQUENCE of an injury to persons if an accident does occur First a Rating Number has to be applied for each element using Table 2 below: TABLE 1 LIKELIHOOD Most Unlikely Unlikely Possible Likely Very Likely Certain RATING NO 1 2 3 4 5 6 CONSEQUENCE Trivial injuries Minor injuries Major injuries to one person Major injuries to persons Death of one person Multiple deaths RATING NO 1 2 3 4 5 6

By multiplying the two Rating Numbers together, a Factor Number is obtained of between 1 and 36. When the Factor Number is referred into Table 2 the risks is defined and what actions are necessary. TABLE 2 FACTOR NO. 1-6 8-10 12-36 RISK Low Medium High CONTROL MEASURES Keep control measures under review, fine tuning wherever possible. Control measures to be improved and reassessment carried out Stop the activity until improved control measures are developed. Carry out reassessment.

NOTE TRIVIAL INJURIES should be considered as small cuts, bruises, etc. MINOR INJURIES are worse than trivial but are not reportable or require more that three days off work as defined by the RIDDOR MAJOR INJURIES are reportable under the RIDDOR or require more than three days of work.
