M & M Project Word Processing and Spreadsheet

M&M Spreadsheet: 1. Pick up a cup of M&Ms and a paper towel. 2. Pour your M&Ms onto your paper towel, separate them by color, and count each color. 3. Open Excel. 4. Type a title in cell A1: M & M Project 5. Type your name in cell A2. 6. Type Color in cell A4. 7. Type Number in cell B4. 8. Underneath the label for Color, list the colors you have, 1 in each row. 9. Underneath the label for Number, list the number of each color you counted. 10. Under your last color, skip 1 row, then type TOTAL. 11. In column B, do an AutoSum formula to find your total M&Ms. 12. Rename Sheet1, MyM&Ms. 13. Color the font of each row to match the color of the M&Ms (ex. Red should be colored red, yellow should be colored yellow, etc.) 14. Select your colors and the numbers next to them. 15. Click Insert, chart. 16. Choose the pie chart. 17. Add a title to the chart, My M&M Distribution. 18. On the final step of the Chart Wizard, place the chart in a separate sheet, and name the sheet MyM&MChart. 19. Click on the pie chart, then click on one piece, right click, go to the Format Data Point option. 20. Change the color of the pie slice to the color of the M&M it represents. 21. Continue changing pie slices colors to the M&M colors. 22. Click on MyM&Ms sheet. 23. Copy the entire sheet. 24. Paste to Sheet2. 25. Work with the students in your group to find the total number of each color M&Ms for the group. 26. Change your numbers in Sheet2 to the totals for each color for the group. (If you are missing a color, insert a row to show that color and color the font to match the M&M color) 27. Rename Sheet2, MyGroupM&Ms. 28. Repeat Steps 14-16 for your groups M&Ms. 29. Add a title to the chart, My Group M&M Distribution. 30. On the final step of the Chart Wizard, place the chart in a separate sheet, and name the sheet MyGroupM&MChart.

31. Repeat steps 19-21 for your group chart. 32. Click on MyGroupM&Ms sheet. 33. Copy the entire sheet. 34. Paste to Sheet3. 35. Combine all groups to get a total number of M&Ms for the class. 36. Rename Sheet3 as MyClassM&Ms. 37. Change your numbers to reflect the class totals. 38. Follow the steps above to create, recolor, and place a pie chart in a separate sheet named MyClassM&MChart. 39. Rearrange the sheets so they are in the following order: MyM&Ms, MyM&MChart, MyGroupM&Ms, MyGroupM&MsChart, MyClassM&M, MyClassM&MChart. 40. Select all sheet tabs by clicking the 1st one, holding shift, then clicking the last one. 41. Go to Header and Footers, Custom Footer. Add your name to the Left section, Click the filename button for the center section, Click the Tab (sheet) name button for the right section. 42. Go to File, Print, Click Entire Workbook. 43. Click Print Preview, and scroll through the pages to make sure your footer is on all 6 pages. 44. If your footer is on all pages, print. If not, close Print Preview, go back and put your footer on each page individually before printing. M&M Newsletter 1. Open word processing. 2. Go to page setup (page layout). 3. Change the orientation to landscape. 4. Insert a WordArt title, My M&M Project. (You may use the WordArt of your choice). 5. Enter 2X. 6. Go to Columns, More Columns to get the columns dialog box. 7. Click 3, Choose This Point Forward instead of Whole Document, check the Line Between box. OK. 8. Go to www.m-ms.com. Click About M&Ms. 9. In Column 1, type information from the history link (you will need to click on the years to find this). 10. Change the 1st letter of Column 1 to a DropCap. 11. Insert a picture of M&Ms, and wrap text and resize as shown on the sample. 12. In Column 2, type in formation about the various products and characters. 13. Insert a picture of one of the characters at the beginning of Column 2, Reduce it to about 1 square, and wrap text tight or square. 14. In Column 3, find a recipe, and type it including ingredients and instructions.

15. Go to the headers and footers, and type your name in the center of the footer. 16. Print your newsletter, making sure it is on 1 page by looking at Print Preview first.
