THE OFFICE WORK OF THE HOLY GHOST

,

"And when he is come he will reprove the world of sin ... " (John 16:8) One of the main missions of the Holy Ghost is to reprove the world of sin. We sometimes use other words such as condemn, convict, and arrest; but the word we stress in this message is the word reprove. The Holy Ghost reproved some of sin in the Old Testament times, but in His own dispensation He reproves ALL of sin (John 16:8). In the Old Testament the Holy Ghost moved upon certain chosen vessels, on certain occasions; God used the best material He had. They were moved upon from the outside. The holy men of God wrote as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (II Peter 1:21). But in the New Testament times the manifestation of the Spirit is given to everyone. Now the Holy Ghost dwells within us at all times (John 14:17). Since we are baptized with the Holy Ghost He moves N US (John 7:38-39), instead of moving UPON us at times (Judges 13 :25). In the Old Testament they responded to. the Holy Ghost, but we have received the Holy Ghost. Then God moved upon a nation, having laws written on tablets of stone; but now He commandeth ALL MEN EVER E to repent (Acts 17:30), writing the laws in fleshly tablets of our hearts (II Cor. 3:3)our conscience bearing us witness by the Holy Ghost (Rom. 2:15; 9:1). Then the Holy Ghost dwelt mainly with a nation; now the grace of God that bringeth salvation has appeared to ALL men (Titus 2:11). Now no man comes to Jesus unless the Fa ther draws him by the Holy Ghost. But .whosoever will may come (Rev. 22:17); for the Spirit knocks at least once on every heart's door (Titus 2:11).

Sins Which Are Unpardonable

Office Work of the Holy Ghost

We have one government; but there are three parts to it. We have one God with three personalities. The Holy Ghost as a prosecuting attorney comes and tells us we have broken God's laws. He arrests us and takes us before the Father, who is the judge of all the earth, who will do right (Gen. 18:25). God's justice says we are worthy of eternal death. But Jesus, who is our Pleading Attorney, pleads our case before the Judge -that is if we will confess we are guilty. He says, "I have taken this boy's place and paid his debt for him." The Judge marks it paid. We may liken this to two brothers. The elder brother always took the younger brother's part and did his fighting for him. But he looked one morning and saw his younger brother COIning in from the back yard with bloody, dirty clothes on. The sheriff was after him because he had killed a man. After studying a moment he quickly changed clothes with his younger brother. The sheriff arrested the man with the bloody clothes on and carried him into court. The younger brother felt so badly about it that he could stand it no longer. He ran to town and went into the presence of the judge yelling, "I am guilty; my elder brother is innocent." But they had just put his brother to death for the crime! The debt was marked paid, The books were clear. They let the man go free because he promised to live a respectable life as his brother did, to wear his brother's clothes and live in, his house. Jesus is my elder Brother who traded places with me. He died that I might live! He became the Son of man that I might become a son of God. He took my sins and gave to me His righteousness! He bore my sickness that I might have His divine LLalth! Two lawyers go into an old time brush arbor revival to make fun. By the time of the altar service

they a i'e both under conviction crying for salvation. One gets saved, the other does not. On the way home one says, "How did you get saved? Why didn't I get saved? I pled my case and pled my, case.and did not get anywhere." "That is where you missed it," replied the saved lawyer, "you should have pled guilty and you would have gone free." If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive our sins" (I John 1:9). As a prosecuting attorney the Holy Ghost takes God's part. He fights for us if we are on God's side; against us if we are not.

Many Ways to Sin Against Holy Ghost

Chapter II

WAYS TO SIN AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST

"And the Lord said, my Spirit shall not always strive with man" (Gen. 6:3). One of the ways to sin against the Holy Ghost is to ascribe to Satan the works of the Holy Ghost (Mutt. 12:22-32). Jesus did all His miracles under the anointing of the Holy Ghost (Acts 10:38; Luke 4:18) and said that we could do the same if He went away and sent the Holy Ghost (John 14:12). As Jesus was healing people by the Holy Ghost anointing the people said He was doing it by the power of the Devil. That was when Jesus gave the strong warning that they were close to the unpardonable sin. There is no place recorded in the Bible that the devil ever healed, or ever will heal anyone. But there are many places which state that the devil does not heal. At the beginning of each revival we have someone who is almost sure to deny the existance of miracles today. Before the revival is over, after many miracles take place, which people would make a fool of themselves to deny, they change their tune and say the devil did it. Bible days are here again. I take this opportunity to give the same warning to the twentieth century Pharisees as Jesus gave to those cold, cruel clergymen of the first century. Another way to commit this fatal sin is to blaspheme the Holy Ghost. There are many ways to blaspheme the working of the Holy Ghost (Mark 3 :22-29; Luke 11 :14-20). God warns us to grieve not the Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:30). Then He tells us in the next verse how it may be
,

done. One way is to let bitterness take possession of you. We shall study this la ter in the experience of Esau. Then wrath, anger, clamor, evil-speaking, and the spirit of unforgiveness may all start you on the road. How many have grieved the Holy Spirit away! He gives us a solemn warning to "Quench not the Spirit" (1 Thes. 5:19). We may sin against the Holy Ghost by speaking a word against Him (Matt. 12:32), or to commit any act whatsoever that does despite to the Spirit of Grace, which can be fatal (Heb. 10:26:29). We may commit the unpardonable sin by sinning wilfully after we come to the knowledge of the truth (Heb. 10:26). Who knows when a person has sinned wilfully, or when he has come to the full knowledge of the truth, except the Lord ? We will discuss this in a later chapter. God is speaking of this same thing in Hebrews 6 :4-6; He tells us of people who have been filled with the Holy Ghost falling away after they have tasted of the gifts and the powers of the world to come. He that resisteth the power receives unto himself damnation (Rom. 13 :2). People may seal their doom by lying to the Holy Ghost (Acts 5:1-10). Since the only way for a Ulan ever to be brought to God is for the Holy Ghost to reprove him, then anyway he acts, or anything he does to grieve the Holy Ghost away so that He will never return, separates him from God forever, for he has no way to come to God. We may liken this to a boy who holds corn in his hand, but shuts his hand just before a dove lights on his hand. The dove ftys away, but soon returns. But after the boy repeats this same act over and over again the dove takes her departure forever. If you knock on a neighbor's door everyday with no response, some day you will knock for your -Iast time.

WORLD?

". . . Whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven him ... (Matt. 12~32). The word "whosoever" here means the same as whosoever in John 3:16. Just as anyone may be saved so anyone may have the choice of refusing that salvation as a final decision. Anyone who has the Holy Ghost may sin against Him. "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, IF THF:Y SHALL FALL AWAY, TO RENEW THEM AGAIN TO REPENTANCE ... " (Heb. 6:4-6). This means just anyone in that class, Jews or Gentiles. The reason that most folk backslide they are trapped and snared by the devil. But when a person has the knowledge of God's Word and the gifts of the Spirit, it is hard for Satan to trap him. The only way for him to go down is to do so wilfully, on purpose, .knowing what he is doing. After one has come to the knowledge of the truth and sinned wilfully there remains no more sacrifice for sins (Heb. 10 :26) . He becomes as Balaam who walked into sin on purpose knowing what he was doing. He received a reprobate mind and said God told him to do it (II Peter 2:15). People who do this become worse than they were before they received salvation (v. 20). It would have been hetter if they had never been saved. They cannot cease from sin (v. 14). Just as God did not spare the angels that sinned, who knew better, so He

Sins Which Are Unpardonable

Who May Sin Against the Holy Ghost

lets people have their choice and fall away (II Peter 2:1; see Jude). They fall away just as Cain who was driven from God's presence forever; like Core who rebelled against his leader and was destroyed (Jude 11). They may become as Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-10), who lied to the Holy Ghost and was struck dead on the spot. These are finally "plucked up by the roots" (Jude 12). The blackness of hell is reserved for them forever (Jude 13). Like thousands today they are wilfully ignorant (II Peter 3:5). God said Christians could become as Esau, who sold his birthright. He later sought repentance with tears, but never found it (Heb. 12:15-17). We, in this dispensation, may become that way if we let a root of bitterness spring up. It will grow so large it will push all of God out of us. Bitterness is what caused Cain to be driven from God's presence forever. It caused Judas to fall through transgression after he preached the Gospel. He also committed suicide. Saul confessed but he never repented. At one time he had a new heart and was changed into another man and preached (I Sam., chapters 10 and 31). He came to a place where God answered him no more (28:6). God told Samuel there was no use to pray for Saul any more, because He (God) had given him up. We can get into the same condition (I John 5:16). We may cross the dead line where there is no use for anyone to pray for us. One day I got on the wrong road the right road but on the wrong end. (Many today are in the right church but going the wrong way). I was sorry enough to cry. I could have cried and confessed to everyone who carne by, but I would have still been on the wrong road. I finally repented, for I got on the right road. Many confess and cry as Esau, but there is no repentance. Their constitution is completely broken down.

Their conscience is seared. They go out the next day and commit the same old sins. Honest confession is good for the soul if you do not go back and do the same things again! No wonder some people "pray through" every time they go to a revival and then 'go back and do the same old sins again. They have become as Esau! If we confess our sins AND FORSAKE OUR SINS He will abundantly pardon. I know of a boy who broke his mother's dishes for a long time. Everytime she talked to him he said he was "so sorry." One day she brought a switch in. When she was through with him he repented. He quit doing it. Unless we REPENT we shall all likewise perish. Esau could not repent, because he wilfully sold his birthright. We can do the same (Heb. 12),

Anyone May Sin Against Holy Ghost

11

Chapter

IV
I \

ANYONE MAY SIN AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST

"He that hateth reproof is brutish" (Prov. 12:1). The only way we can be reproved is for the Holy Ghost to reprove us. But if people do not want to be reproved; if men, from their hearts, turn the Holy Spirit away, so that He takes His departure forever, then they become as a natural brute beast , with no more conscience than a hog (Jude 10). Their conscience becomes seared just as if you were to put a hot iron to a piece of fresh meat (I Tim. 4:1-4). Their senses are not exercised to discern good and evil, and they cannot discern right from wrong (Heb. 5:14). Spiritually they become blind, forgotten that they were ever purged from their old sins (II Peter 1:9), even denying the Lord that saved them (II Peter 2:1). ANY CHRISTIAN MAY SIN AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST. He is with any Christian (John 14:17). "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as "God, neither were they thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish hearts were darkened ... WH F:REFORE GOD GAVE TH E:M UP ... For this cause GOD GAVE THEM UP to vile affections . . . GOD GAVE TH E:M OVER to a reprobate mind ... " (Rom. 1 :21-28). This is speaking of people who once knew God. The devil takes possession of their imaginations, hearts, affections, and minds. They are worthy of death because they knew God's judgments before they deliberately choose the wrong path (v. 32). A brother may sin unto death and get where there is no use to pray for him (I John 5:16). AFTER Christians depart from the faith they may give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocricy (I Tim. 4:1-4).

He (anyone) who resisteth the power receiveth unto himself damnation (Rom. 13:1). Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry (I Sam. 15:23). After men give heed to doctrines of devils they jump from one false doctrine to another, receiving a new light or new revelation nearly every night. The sinner, bootlegger, and heathen will set down with Abraham, Issac, and Jacob while they are cast out into outer darkness (Matt. 8:12). A good pastor was telling me how one of his members was tempted to go into a worldly place of amusement. The Holy Spirit checked her. She started in the next day, but again the Holy Spirit reproved her. When she tried to go in the third day the Holy Spirit was not there to condemn her. She went in, but was never the same again. She now goes around telling people that she does not "feel condemned over it." If something used to be wrong 20 years ago, when you were first saved, it is wrong now. God does not change (Mal. 3:6). If you used to be condemned about something, and you are not condemned now, you are in a bad condition! A good Christian lady who had lived for God eight years, and was a leader in a church, came and told me she thought she would go into sin and just see what she could get out of it. I knew that she would never be the same again, because she did it knowingly with her eyes open. N ow she confesses and cries every revival, but cannot repent. Now she has been married three times and walks down the street painted up like a harlot, wearing men's clothing, and does not feel condemned! Another lady felt like she should nqt go to a certain worldly place. But after she prayed over it she said God told her she could go.

Balaam did the same thing and received a delusion (Nurn. 22). We may do likewise (II Peter 2:15; Jude 11; Rev. 2:14) . A Sinner May Sin Against the Holy Ghost God said because they received not the love of the truth that they might be saved He would send them strong delusions that they might be damned (II Thes, 2:11) . The Holy Ghost reproves every sinner (John 16:8). Jesus was speaking to unregenerated people when He warned them of the unpardonable sin (Matt. 12:32).

MANY SIN AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST AND DIE

"He, that being often reproved, hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy" (Prov. 29:1). (The Holy Ghost reproves). Paul practiced turning people over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh (I Tim. 1 :20), and commands us to do the same. Peter did the same when he spoke the word for Ananias and Sapphira to be struck dead for lying to the Holy Ghost (Acts 5). In Dallas, while the Holy Ghost was speaking and striving with people I gave a solemn warning to all. I advised that no one rebel against the Holy Ghost. A girl walked out and was under the sod within three days. A lady walked out of a Holy Ghost service while she was under conviction in another town. She made her final decision and blew her brains out with a shotgun. She was forced to obey God or the devil. Three men resisted our tent revival in another town, causing us to move the tent before time. All three died suddenly in about two weeks. I helped to pray .a young man through to the Holy Ghost, but his parents influenced him to join the army in order to keep him away from church. They told him they wanted him to make a "mark in the world." The last time he was on his furlough, dressed in all his bars and stripes, he was seen on the outside of the tabernacle at an old-fashioned camp meeting. During the altar call my sister walked up to him and asked, "Didn't you used to be saved and filled with the Holy Ghost?" "Yes, but I never hope to be that way again," he slowly and thoughtfully answered. There is a difference when an action is premeditated.

He made his final decision, for he soon went down in battle. Undoubtly he is still going down! A backslidden girl in Malvern, Arkansas, rejected God and walked out of the church. As she was going 50 miles per hour the car wrecked, leaving her eyeball and brains sticking to a telephone pole. You may say I anl trying to scare you. I wish to God I could. The fear of God. is the beginning of wisdom (Ps. 111:10). Fools have no fear of God before their eyes (Rom. 3:18). Some say I aIn telling graveyard stories. No doubt they also said the same about Jesus when He told about the rich man who died and went to hell. I put my hands on a man's head as the Holy Ghost spoke through me; but he .rebelled against the Holy Ghost for his last time and walked out at the door. A car hit him and scattered his brains up the highway for 50 yards. A backslidden girl who' used to sit in' our Sunday School class became' convicted, She shook during the altar calls in church. Then she stayed away from church because the Holy Ghost reproved her when she came. One Saturday. night while on a drunken spree she hit a .Iumber truck and knocked her face nearly off as she was going 80 miles per hour. I found her mother (or mama) in an almost dying condition. I carried her juices to keep her alive. She said she wanted me to hold her daughter's funeral services, but did not want me to carry her to a church. . As the funeral arrangements were almost completed the mother said she did not want any preaching. As we' started to prepare some songs she said she did not want any singing. I started to pray and the mother and dad left the house. What could I do but put her into the ground as a natural brute beast. But her soul had gone to meet God anyway.
.

Friends, it would take volumes to tell what we alone have experienced along this line, not saying anything of the thousands of ministers who could tell you things of the same nature. But many of us dare not tell these experiences because, after all, their folks would know who we are talking about. And what is the use making them feel bad when we cannot help the person who has gone on? People will argue "once saved always saved," but after I tell them a few of the above Scriptures in this book they will change their tune a little and say the backsliders will always come back to God except when they cross the "dead-line"; and then, we agree. But who knows where the dead-line is?

Chapter VI

MANY HAVE SINNED AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST AND LIVED

,

"Whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven him ... " (Matt. 12:32). My main message is in this chapter. God told me to warn everyone of this. Most people dwell on the subject of people who make the final step and die; but I want to stress the possibility of you living for years after you seal your doom. T~ere is a way that seemeth right but the way thereof is the way .of death. As I started to pray for a man to be saved he called me to one side and told me his story. It did something to me I shall never get over. He said he knew when he walked out of a brush arbor meeting five years before that he shouldn't do it. He knew what he was doing and told God he didn't want Him. That was the last time he was ever reproved by the HOly Ghost. He said he had not felt the Spirit since then, and knew he never would. I didn't believe him and prayed for him about 40 minutes. But he arose and walked away saying, "It's no use." Of course God is still willing and is yet saying, "Whosoever will." But the man disconnected himself. As long as he believes there is no chance he will never be saved. He WIll always believe that because his mind is crystallized. Since then I have met so many scores in the same condition. I think only five per cent die suddenly after they cross the dead-line. While we have seen thousands saved and filled with the Spirit we have seen many wilfully walk out at the door to never get another call. There is not much danger of this in a church where the power of God is not there. But a person is never

A

the same again after he sits under the workings of the Holy "Ghost. The main danger is rebelling against lui racles or the supernatural. The people of Sodom will condemn them at the day of Judgment. The Holy Ghost conviction and miracles is God's last means to bring this world back to God. When people rebel, and the Holy Ghost is grieved away, there is no remedy. God worked miracles just before the door of the Ark was. shut as He sent the animals into the Ark. They had more sense than people. God sent miracles just before He destroyed people in the Red Sea, and delivered His people. The true Gospel is like a two-edged sword it cuts both ways. It will either km or cure. The same sun that softens the wax hardens the clay. The Gospel will soften the heart that accepts it or harden the heart that rejects. One of my fellow ministers had just become involved in a dispute with his wife, as they were pastoring a church. He went to the bathroom and begged God to take away his anointing of the Holy Ghost forever and never return to him. Of course, he is sorry of it now, but he was sincere then knowing what he was doing. Now they have to take his guns away from him, to keep him from killing himself. He ima.gines people are against him. He imagines things about his wife. He hears voices. They are planning on taking him to the state hospital where there are many more in his same condition, who used to be right with God. I warned people not to leave the house one night as the Holy Ghost was reproving the people during the altar service. A member met me at the church the next day and told me her story. She said she knew she was supposed to heed that warning, but deliberately
.

18

Sins Which Are Unpardonable

walked out. As she passed through the door a hand grabbed her and would not turn her loose. .I prayed with her about one hour; but she left never to return. She now imagines the whole church has wronged her. The first lie you ever told it hurt you; but soon you could tell all you wanted to without it hurting you. The samerule works with stealing, cursing, or killingeven quenching the Spirit. Set an . alarm clock and fail to get up three mornings. Soon you will not hear it again. You can sear your conscience, defile your mind, and break down your constitution so you cannot do what you want to. Your will power will be destroyed.

After he got to the place where he believed he was right he lived on for years. He then got to a place where GOD ANSWERf;I) IllM NO MORE (I Sam. 28:6). Then a suicide spirit entered in and caused him to take his own life (I Sam. 31:4). This happened for our ensample . But God explains that as a man speaketh in his heart,so is he. Just as one may worship God with his lips and his heart be far from Him (Matt: 15:8), so we can say things with our mouth and really not mean it from our hearts. I was forgiven because I did not mean it from my heart . Many people speak with their hearts and never say a word with their mouths. And many times that word is final and fatal! Who knows, but God, when a man speaks in his heart and makes a final decision! When he says, "Lord, go on and leave me alone forever.' I received the that I had the answer. I fell to sleep again and saw a vision. I found I had prayed through for my brother 6,000 miles away on Midway Island. He was in the Marines in a 4 days and nights battle during World War II. Within a few hours I received a cablegram saying he was alright. Later I heard that nine-tenths of his buddies were killed and he was not hurt. During that battle many nice American airplanes had been flying close by. But one had strayed away too far and could not return because the enemy was there and the battle was on. As my brother was listening to the radio he hea 1"(1 the pilot call earnestly for a code so he could come in. But the marines laughed at him because he had waited too long . "I am lost" he cried, "help me." He was some mother's boy, but there was no help then. !'I have one more minute of gas," the message came In. But he had waited too late. "I have drifted too far. , I aln out of gas. I am lost. I am going down. Someone help quickly!" But regardless of how badly they might have wanted to, they could not; for he had cut himself off by going too far and waiting too long. Neighbor', the life line is out now! Now is the accepted time; the only time God has ever promised to help. He does not promise to help you tomorrow. He is not obligated to speak to you the second time until he has spoken to the people across the sea the first time. Soon the battle will be on. The tribulation days will be here. his demons! We will be at the marriage supper in the air during that time. Then you may do as the man in the airplane you may say, "Help, my vessel is empty of oil. I did not get a refilling in time; I am lost; I am going down, down, down!" Yes, a million years from now you will still be going down; shut out where there will never be a Christian wife or mother; no praying Christians, no little children, and no water! Please don't wait too late. This is the last call to the Marriage of the Lamb. "Whosoever will, may come" (Rev. 22:17). If you are still willing you have not gone too far. But don't wait until your will-power is broken and your conscience is seared! Finally people go into a new revelation, or a new light, which leads them 'into doctrines of devils. Then they break' up churches by teaching they will never be sick, never die, should never marry, and many like things. They soon handle snakes, eat fire, teach free love, or sexual purity. They teach Jesus has already come, the ressurrection has passed, or even say they are Jesus! Some will go so far as to go into some formal church they came out of and deny the Holy Ghost Baptism. Many who used to be saved are now following a Negro calling him God. "Examine yourselves ... except ye be reprobates" (IT Cor. 13:5). Dear God, help all who read this to turn before it is too late, while the Lifeline is thrown out.

Let God Alone

PLEASE DO NOT READ TillS MESSAGE-until you have time to read it all; don't pass judgment on it until you are through. Faith pays no attention to such a statement as .l~ the title. Go tell a preacher not to preach. You may as well try to stop a rooster from crowing. It only proves whether or not the preacher is called. If he is really called he win have fire shut up in his bones and cannot forbear (Jer. 20:9). The coal of fire in' his tongue will cause him to say," Here am I, send me" (Isa.
6:6-8).

gestion! Moses immediately saw that there was a possibility of him holding on to God until he received the answer. Just as a father binds himself to a son by a promise so Moses had God where he wanted him , and said , "Remember what you said." The Lord had sworn by Himself to Abraham. He cannot deny Himself! He has exalted His Word above His name (Ps. 138:2). He will break His covenant with the sun, moon, and stars before He will break His Word with us (Jer. 33:20) ! God spared the children of Israel because God was bound by His Word to do what His servant demanded.
.

Tell the man who has received a blessing from God to tell no man. That only proves whether or not his testimony is real. He will tell it so much the more Mk. 1:44,45). Tell a sinner not to commit sin. You may as well try to stop the wind from blowing. Whatever is in there has to come out. Oppose an honest hearted righteous man; just as oppression caused the Children of Israel to multiply: just as persecution brought out the best that was in the early Church; so opposition will show where the real fire of God is today. The more you stir the fire the more it will burn. Persecution will cause the Spirit of the glory and of God to rest so much the more on God's people (Luke 6:22, 23) (I Peter 4:12-14) (James 1:2). Kill a man and ten more will rise up in his place. LEAVE GOD AI.ONE "Now therefore let me alone ... that I may consume them" Ex. 32:10). Yes, God actually told Moses to let Him alone; and Moses took the hint. He actually told Moses to stop praying; but what a power of sug-

LET GOD GO
.

"And he said, Let me go ... and he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me" (Gen. 33:26). Had not God promised to bless Jacob as He did Abraham? Jacob could say, "God, you said, ... " And we all know what kind of blessing Jacob received in spite of the fact that God told him to let Him go! Those very words sugggested that Jacob as good as had it. All he needed to do was to fight on through to victory. The words, "LEr me go," only showed the angel could not go until Jacob LET him. We have it in our power to LET. This tested his sincerity, and showed he was no quitter. He refused to let the Lord go and "He blessed him there." Why did Jesus permit the disciples to try to send the woman away (Matt. 15:23)? Why did He call her a dog and tell her it was not for her? If we had been that little lady we probably would have gone away discouraged and told people that that sickness was a blessing or that it was God's will. But true faith does not quit. That made the mother get more in earnest. Faith thrives on trials. The very fact Jesus told her to let the children be fed first

showed she had power to keep on until she received the blessing for her daughter. She would not let God go; but kept on until she received. "WOMAN, GREAT IS THY F AI'I'H!" DON'T BOTHER GOD

"And they that went before rebuked him that he should hold his peace; but he cried so much the more" (Luke 18:39). There was something within blind Bartimaeus that just would not hold back, but pushed him on; something that cried so much the more when Jesus' own people were permitted to try to stop him froIl! seeking God. That something was faith. You can't stop faith that moves mountains! It would be easier to stop the H. Bomb. The Army and Navy could not have held back that man that day. The very fact that he was told not to keep on until he received, proved .hat he could. He knew Jesus could have no respect to persons, and yet be Jesus. Opposition only brought out the best that was in him. I know of a certain pastor who makes it a practice when a strange person comes into his service and demonstrates, to rebuke that person before the public telling him to sit down and behave. If the person keeps coming and stays sweet, the pastor knows he is sincere, and trys to get him for a member, giving him full freedom. If he quits or becomes angry the pastor knows he did not mean business with God from his heart. TURN GOD LOOSE "And he made as if he would go further. But they constrained him" (Luke 24:28-29). On the road to Emmaus Jesus, who will not go

where He is not wanted, saw just how badly the disciples wanted Him when He made as if He would keep going. And that made them desire Him more. Jesus' own disciples were permitted to forbid some people to cast out devils in His name. That drove them closer to God, proving they were honest. When we are seeking God with all our heart we will not let anything make us turn Him loose. He did not only teach us to , but He said KNOCK (Luke 11:9). We must press into the Kingdom (Luke 16:16). The woman with the issue let nothing hold her back (Mk. 5). The reckless faith of the four lepers caused them to march to victory and storm the fort, bringing deliverance even to a nation (II Kings 7). DON'T WORRY GOD " . . . lest oy her continual coming she worry me" (Luke 18). Some are so afraid they will worry God; but Jesus suggested that very thing. Shall not God avenge His own elect that cry unto Him night and day? The man let down through the roof was not afraid that he would worry the Lord; although the religous leaders would hold him back. Praying, , asking, and knocking will not worry the Lord; but merely saying the words will worry Him (Mal. 2:17). The message is this: Stop seeking God or seek Him with ALL your heart. Be either hot or cold. In the day that you get in earnest and seek God with ALL your heart He will be found (Jer. 29:13). But to him that is half-hearted, or unstable, let not that man think he will receive anything of the Lord. The other night I saw them bring a little lady into the healing line in Fort Smith in a straight chair. I motioned for them to keep her back. I wanted to wait until faith was built up so she could receive. But she

26

would not stay back. The more I asked her to stay back the more she tried to slide her chair and get others to slide it. I saw something within her that wanted to push forward. I merely touched her and told her to walk. She did! Then I learned she had been in a Pentecostal service only once. That was the first time she had walked in eighteen years. Her chair is at church and she is still walking! I have not found so great faith, not even in Pentecost! She would not take no for an answer. I told another lady to stay back and she became angry and ran home, proving she was not seeking with all her heart. A winner never quits; a quitter never wins. Get in earnest, press through, storm the Kingdom, or don't pretend!

God's Little Finger

In Moses' day the water in the rivers turned to blood! Heaps of dead frogs made the land to stink. The dust was turned to lice. Grievous flies corrupted the land. All kinds of livestock died. The people were smitten with boils. Hail and fire ran along the ground. Locusts ate all green things. The land was covered with thick darkness. Death claimed the first born child in each home. Plagues of God's judgment covered the nation of Egypt at one time. The people acknowledged that it was "the finger of God" (Ex. 8:19). In the near future, not only the rivers, but all the waters will be blood. Not only frogs, lice, flies, and boils will be in that day, but pestilence "worse than the world has ever known." Instead of the locusts hurting the grass and green things they will hurt men, as death, for five months. Instead of hail . with fire there will be fire pulled down from heaven

and hail fall, the weight of a 100 pound block of ice. Instead of just one nation being dark the whole world will be covered with darkness until people will -gnaw their tongues for pain! In Moses' day one out of each family died; but in the time of "sorrow greater than the world has ever known" one-half of the people will die by starvation, by hunger, and by the sword (Rev. 6:8; 9:18), while others, torrnented by grievous sores crying for the rocks, will desire to die, but death will flee from them. There will be "tribulation worse than the world has ever known." A "mysterious red tide" has already appeared in the Pacific Ocean, Niagara Falls, and many lakes and streams throughout the nation, according to some newspaper reports. The scientists could not tell it from blood. We have already seen millions of martyrs, wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, droughts, and floods, to say nothing of the other thousands of sure signs. If what happened in Moses' time was the finger of God; if what is going on now is the finger of God what will happen when God makes bare His mighty ~rrn to ight this Godless world (Jer. 21:5)! We can now see His hand-writing on the wall to this Godless nation saying, "your days are numbered." God has power over the nations. He has power over demons, death, and disease. When the poor father brought his son to Jesus because the evil spirits had made him "wallow foaming at the mouth," "fall into the water," and "fall into the fire," "taketh him" and "tareth him" Jesus set the boy free. ' Look at the man with 6000 demons. He "cut himself with stones." He would not wear any clothes. He stayed in the graveyard. He was cast out of society away from his family and friends. But Jesus cast out the legion of devils and let the man go home to his family and friends.

Jesus loosed a woman after she had been bound by Satan eighteen years. He healed a woman after the doctors gave 'her up to die. He set Mary free from seven devils. He cast out the deaf. and blind spirits, causing the blind to see and the deaf to hear. After He did all this, and more, He said He did it by the finger of God (Luke 11:20). If His finger can do all this shall we pray as the early Christians, "Lord stretch forth thy band to heal and do signs and wonders" (Acts 4). The place will be shaken, all the people will be filled, refilled, and healed, and the Church will be multiplied. If God's finger can give us power over sickness, sin, devils, death, and disease what can happen when he stretches forth His ! If the heavens, the moon and stars are the works of His fingers what will happen when He makes bare His arms (lsa. 52:10), to once more bring a revival of deliverance in these last days (Acts 2:15-20)? THE: END

will yet need pastors and evangelists "for the perfecting of the saints." If a church were already "in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God," it would no longer need pastors, evangelists, teachers, helps, or governments. If one is looking for a perfect church to join he should remember that as long as the Church is in the world it is a nursery for us to feed and to be fed. When that which is perfect is comeeSPIRITUAL GIFTS WlI.I. PASS AWAY

N OW A bideth Faith
God has set two sets of gifts in the Church ministerial gifts and Spiritual gifts (I Cor: 12:28). The list of ministerial gifts are found in the fourth chapter of Ephesians. They are to continue until we reach perfection (Eph. 4:13). First Corinthians 13 tells us that Spiritual gifts continue until we reach perfection (v. 10) When that which is perfect is comeMINISTERIAL GIFTS WU.I. PASS AWAY When we are in that perfect age we will no longer need to be "sent with a commission" to the heathen to preach the Word with signs following; we will not need men to act as apostles or prophets to dig a church out of the non-Christian countries. As long as the Church has not come unto the "measure of the statue of the fullness of Christ" we

Now God gives us a word of His knowledge occasionally; but then we shall "know even as also we are known." We no longer shall need a revelation of a word of knowledge for "it shall vanish away." Sometimes by a divine revelation God gives us a word of wisdom; then other times "we see through a glass darkly." After former things have passed away we will see "face to face." . There will be no need for discerning of spirits for there we will not have to battle against "spiritual wickedness. " Tongues (in the plural) shall cease. There will be one tongue, for we shall all speak one language. There will not be an unknown tongue, for since we shall know as we're known, we shall all understand one tongue. Interpretation shall pass away for we shall all understand and speak one pure, heavenly language. In this Church age we still need prophecy to edify the Church; but then we will not need anything "for the edifying of the body of Christ" as we will have come "unto a perfect man." Since prophecy will be in use during the Great Tribulation Days, which is yet in the future (Rev. 11:13), we understand prophecies shall not fail until we reach the perfect age (I Cor. 13:8) . Gifts of healing will no longer be needed in a land

where sickness is not known; but until then we have the sick who need deliverance. And how can we have the working of miracles in a land where all will be supernatural! Since faith ceases to be faith as soon as the victory is won, where will the gift of faith come in after the race has been run! But NOW abideth faith (I Cor. 13:13). When that which b perfect is come-sFORMF:R THINGS WILl .. PASS AWAY John was given a little look into the Perfect Age, and words failed him to describe it to us. Paul said it was unlawful to utter. Peter said it was unspeakable. Before a native of some parts of Alaska goes south it is hard to tell him how things will be there the sunshine and flowers. He can get an idea when you say, "There will be no snow there; there will be no ice or dog sleighs there.' You will no longer need ice houses or heavy wraps." To our natural minds God says. "There will be no pain there; there will be no tears there; there will be no more need for deliverance revivals or casting out devils; no more healing the sick. Misunderstandings, disappointments. and troubles of every kind will have flown forever! There will be no more crutches, braces, or wheelchairs." Where there be undertakers they shall fail; where there be graveyards they shall vanish away; for that which killeth snaIl be done away. But NOW abideth faith. Your faith can make you whole (Matt. 9:22). Faith will move mountains. ALL TH INGS we ask believing we shall receive (Matt. 21:22) (healing included). Jesus is NOW the author of our faith (Heb, 12:2). Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17), which brings perfect liberty from captivity and opens the prison doors!

Th~ &lperfe&ct of liberty" liberates gives us perlaw fect liberty rrom every disease. He sends His Word and heals us (Ps. 107:20). Neighbor, do you have afflictions either in your flesh or in your bones? His Word gives (present tense) life to our flesh and health to our bones. It goes (present tense) even to our-joints and morrow (Heb. 4:12) driving out arthritis, neuritis, and osteomalitis. ' Look into the perfect law of liberty and continue therein. Jesus kept deliverance by saying "It is written." You can say, "It is written! Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him (present tense) out of them ALL" (Ps. 34:19)!
