Understandings: A Student Response System can give you access to their knowledge. Technology is here and we should use it to our advantage. Clickers and online polling activities can motivate students to participate and give the teacher feedback.

Essential Questions: 1. What are some effective evaluation methods? 2. How will using the SRS save time and give me valuable feedback for my students?

Learning Experiences
1 Hour to 2 Hour implementation 1. The Hook, where we are headed, why we are going there, and what is required. (Need to be very convincing because some teachers do not like polling using phones) Say to the Group: How many of you brought your cell phones today? I want you to look at the screen and respond to the following prompt by text. Give teachers a few minutes to respond. This was a polling device called Polleverywhere.com, it allows you to create a simple poll and find immediate responses to your question. This is one easy way to evaluate student performance. No need for a Ticket Out the Door, students can simply text in their answer using their phone. Explain my own concern about the use of cell phones in class. I understand that many of us dont like to use phones, but the students could use it for this purpose at the end of class. Its not like they are using it throughout the entire period. xplain this is the direction we are headed with technology and begin the lesson. 2. What is Polling in the Classroom? Begin short power point presentation explaining how polling works using the computer software we have in class and using online polling services. Each of the teachers will have their laptops with them so we will be able to finish this presentation and they will be able to create their own using some of the helpful hints. 3. Engage and Explore the Polling Teachers at this time will work in small groups or alone at their choosing to develop one or two short polls using some of the materials they brought from classrooms. I want them to be able to use these polls in class, so it is important they create meaningful questions that deal with their topic in class. Create a short two or three question poll using some sample questions you have brought from your classroom. Make sure these are ones you plan to use in the classroom. 4. Pair Share In this activity the teachers will share their work with others at their table. They will critique each other and share any extra ideas they had with the system. 5. The Big Rs!! After the teachers have had time to talk with each other and discuss strengths and weaknesses about the

program, they will reflect about the experience and revise any points that need to be touched up. After you have shared with each other, take a few moments to reflect on this adventure. Say to yourself, Is this something I will use in my classroom? How can I make this quicker and easier? Spend a few minutes reflecting about this concept. 6. Collect Assessment Data At the end of the session, I have a short poll the teachers can use. Part of the poll uses our software from class. The last polling question is an open ended question using Polleverywhere.com, asking the teachers to provide any feedback about the things they have learned in class. Teachers, this is the last thing we will do today. I want you to take this poll and be completely honest. The last question uses Polleverywhere.com, please provide as much feedback as you desire. Honesty is the key here. Notes to the Instructor
