UNITED FLEETS THE ALLIANCE OF KURAK Not long after the creation of the Alliance of Kurak, the senior

r admirals within the Aquan Sebrutan advocated the formation of Fleets and Battle Groups that comprised squadrons from each of the three signatories of the treaty. These ALLIANCE FLEETS went through rigorous training and battle manoeuvres within Terran territory, a number of them developing a strong sense of unity and purpose. Initially Terran politicians ensured that they kept the ALLIANCE FLEETS close to home within the Terran Hub, but as the conflict continues to escalate they have now given the Terran Navy permission to send the ALLIANCE FLEETS from assembly zones at Fortress and Sheppers Forge into Fathoms Reach. In addition to the first three members of the Alliance, a number of smaller systems have been dragged into the war, and the races who inhabit them have now become Alliance of Kurak members, having signed the treaty and are now supplying their own warships to operate within these mixed fleets. These smaller territories have also formed their own Fleets and Battle Groups, which the Alliance admirals have designated as SUPPORT FLEETS. Generally the smaller territories have limited naval construction capability, and often tend to focus on the construction of particular classes of ship, which usually means that a SUPPORT FLEET contains mixed squadrons from different territories. They frequently operate in the rear areas far from the main fighting, but as the carnage increases and the chaos spreads, they are being pushed to the forefront of the fighting. These smaller factions are also starting to appreciate what is at stake regarding the Dindrenzi invasion. In the early months of the fighting many of them regarded the Terrans as being the sole target of the assault, and were comfortable in the belief that the Dindrenzi would, in the event that the Terrans lost the war, deal with them in separate negotiations. However, having seen the Dindrenzi in action these races now realise that if the Dindrenzi reach the Terran Hub, they intend to conquer any planetary system or independent faction that stands in their way. These rules give you the opportunity to create an ALLIANCE OF KURAK fleet with mixed squadrons of ships, say a Sorylian and Aquan mixed fleet, or a fleet with ships from the Terran, Aquan and Sorylian. They provide the opportunity to mix and match squadrons of your favourite ship designs, and bring into play models that you might have only bought for a fleet that you do

not normally play. There are also some Model Assigned Rules that are only available to Alliance ships, reflecting the role they play and giving them a boost in game play at the same time. These rules also provide the foundations to create an ALLIANCE OF KURAK SUPPORT FLEET made up of squadrons from the smaller allied territories. As time goes by more and more models will be released for the allied factions, expanding your options in fleet composition. These options are already boosted by access to civilian and Pirate ships in a SUPPORT FLEET, although the fleet composition rules for these allied factions are primarily a basis for future development. So in summary, you can now field either a military fleet from the rule book, or an Alliance Fleet from this document, or a Support fleet from this document, or a civilian fleet or Marauder fleet from the existing PDFs. There are some references to Marauders within the alliance documents, so that the fleet compositions match up when all of the documents are available. The Marauder document exists as generic option to the Brethren fleet. NOTE: There are several new types of ship listed in this document that are not in the rule book. The Assault Carrier is a Carrier with a focus on boarding, but still uses the rules for Carriers. The Battle Cruiser is a Large ship that has its own separate % allowance within fleet composition, that has its own Squadron size. The Assault and Torpedo Cruisers are both Variant Cruisers, which determines your options in mixing them into Squadrons with other types of Cruiser, and is listed on the Fleet Information Guides. ALLIANCE OF KURAK FLEET COMPOSITION When you build an ALLIANCE OF KURAK fleet (hereafter referred to as ALLIANCE FLEET), you first have to decide on what the core faction of your fleet is. By this we mean it will be primarily composed of Terran, Aquan or Sorylian models. At least 50% of the points cost of an ALLIANCE FLEET MUST comprise Ships and Squadrons from the core faction, so if you have a 1,000 point Terran ALLIANCE FLEET at least 500 points MUST be spent on Terran Ships. Also, the minimum requirement of 1 Squadron of Ships in the Small size class and 1 Squadron of Ships in the Medium size class MUST be fulfilled with Ships from the core faction; in the example above it would be Terran Ships. You can spend the other 50% of the points cost on Squadrons from other fleets or factions. If you spend 500 of 1,000 points on a core faction of Terrans for example, you can then spend 500 points on Aquans and/or Sorylians. You could also spend

any amount of those 500 points on Squadrons from an Alliance of Kurak SUPPORT FLEET, potentially giving you a mixture of Terrans, Aquans, Sorylians and other combined factions. An ALLIANCE FLEET has the Fleet Tactics of its core faction, therefore a Terran ALLIANCE FLEET would have a Fleet Tactics of +2, and the ships within it have a Command Distance of 6. You get 1 Game Card for each Squadron of ships, excluding Escorts, Gun Drones, Gun Platforms or Wings, but your maximum hand size of Game Cards in an ALLIANCE FLEET is reduced by -1 card (typically to 4 cards). The amount of points that you use to build an ALLIANCE FLEET determines which Squadrons you can have in it. An ALLIANCE FLEET is limited in that only certain percentages (%) of its point total can be made up of each type of Squadron. In general, a good guide is to build an ALLIANCE FLEET with 500-1000 points. An ALLIANCE FLEET MUST comprise at least 1 Squadron of ships in the Small class, and at least 1 Squadron in the Medium class. These requirements MUST be fulfilled by ships from the core faction. Also, at least HALF of the ships in the Small size class MUST come from the core faction, and at least HALF of the ships in the Medium size class MUST come from the core faction. Therefore so long as you fulfil the Squadron minimums and the % minimum, you can build the rest of your fleet with models from other fleets. This means that you can create a fleet composition where your allowance of Heavy Cruisers and/or Destroyers is, for example, made up of Ships from another fleet. ALLIANCE FLEETS can spend up to 60% of its points on Small (S) ships and up to 60% of its points on Medium (M) ships. It can spend up to 40% of its points on Battleships, up to 30% of its points on Dreadnoughts and up to 40% on Carriers (excluding Wings). To determine the minimum and maximum Squadron sizes of your Alliance Squadrons, use the same ratings that are given for each type of Squadron under their own Fleet Composition rules. If you have a Terran ALLIANCE FLEET you would use the Terran Squadron sizes for Terran ships, the Aquan Squadron sizes for Aquan ships and so on (in effect whatever is written on their Fleet Information Guides). The Squadrons within an ALLIANCE FLEET usually CANNOT contain ships from different factions within it. Therefore a Terran Cruiser Squadron can ONLY contain Terran Cruisers, Heavy Cruisers or Variant Cruisers. This applies equally to ships taken from a Support fleet, as they MUST be deployed in Squadrons of their own type and faction using the normal rules. NOTE: The normal rules apply, so you CANNOT have a Squadron of mixed Escorts from different factions that is attached to a parent model at the start of the game. You can have situations later in the game however where Escorts whose parent model is destroyed are later attached to the nearest friendly Large/ Massive Ship. This can result in a parent model having multiple Squadrons of Escorts from different factions attached to it.

The exception is that a Large or Massive ship CAN have Escorts (and/or Wings) from a different faction attached to it, for example Aquan Escorts attached to a Terran Battleship. Similarly a Terran Battleship CAN have Sorylian Wings attached to it for example, and Wings from an ALLIANCE FLEET CAN land on any other Terran, Aquan, Sorylian (or SUPPORT FLEET) carrier in the same ALLIANCE FLEET. If you field an ALLIANCE FLEET you can spend up to 30% of your points on civilian ships, and any civilian ships that you buy are subject to the % limits that are listed for the ALLIANCE FLEET. These ships have the same Fleet Tactics and Command Distance ratings as the ALLIANCE FLEET that they are part of. You CANNOT have mixed Squadrons of military and civilian ships using this rule. If you field an ALLIANCE FLEET you can spend a small amount of your points on Marauder OR Brethren ships. Any Marauder or Brethren ships you buy for a ALLIANCE FLEET are subject to the rules in the Marauder or Brethren PDFs, although restrictions on their use are determined by the core faction of your fleet, therefore a Terran ALLIANCE FLEET can spend up to 20% of its points on Marauder ships. ALLIANCE FLEET MARs All Terran, Aquan and Sorylian Ships in an ALLIANCE FLEET (including Installations) in the Large and Massive size class have the Upgraded Torpedoes ability. A Ship with Upgraded Torpedoes adds +1 to hit on its die rolls when firing Torpedoes. Alliance ships have effectively been refitted with superior launch tubes and targeting arrays for their torpedo systems. In addition; all Terran Ships in the Medium, Large and Massive size class have the Shield Modulation ability, all Aquan Ships in the Medium, Large and Massive size class have the Linear Drive Enhancement ability, while all Sorylian Ships in the Medium, Large and Massive size class have the Experienced Engineers ability. These MARs also apply to Installations in the specified size class. KURAK SUPPORT FLEET COMPOSITION A KURAK SUPPORT FLEET has a Fleet Tactics rating of +1, and the Ships within it have a Command Distance rating of 6. You get 1 Game Card for each Squadron of Ships, excluding Escorts, Gun Drones, Gun Platforms or Wings, but your maximum hand size of Game Cards in a Support fleet is reduced by -1 card (typically to 4 cards). The amount of points that you use to build your SUPPORT FLEET determines which Squadrons you can have in it. A Support Fleet is limited in that only certain percentages (%) of its point total can be made up of each type of Squadron. In general, a good guide is to build a Support Fleet with 500-1000 points. A SUPPORT FLEET MUST comprise at least 1 Squadron of ships that is in the Small class, and at least 1 Squadron that is in the Medium class. This requirement CAN be fulfilled with civilian ships and/or Brethren ships.

A SUPPORT FLEET can spend up to 60% of its points on Small (S) Ships and up to 60% of its points on Medium (M) Ships. It can spend up to 30% of its points on Battleships, up to 30% on Dreadnoughts, up to 30% on Carriers and up to 30% on Leviathans. Installations (I) is a category that includes Gun Drones, Gun Platforms, Satellites and Space Stations, all of which can be deployed in space or built on a Meteoroid or Moon. A SUPPORT FLEET can spend up to 20% of its points on Installations. The exception is that a Large or Massive ship CAN have Escorts (and/or Wings) from a different faction attached to it (excluding Marauders), for example Kedorian Escorts attached to a VoNar Dreadnought. Similarly a Xelocian Dreadnought CAN have Ryushi Wings attached to it for example, and Wings from a SUPPORT FLEET CAN land on any other carrier in the same fleet (excluding Marauders). If you field a SUPPORT FLEET you can spend a small amount of your points on Brethren (but not Marauder) ships. Any Brethren ships that you buy for a Support fleet are subject to the rules given in the Brethren PDF download. A SUPPORT FLEET can spend up to 30% of its points on Brethren ships. NOTE: You can also spend up to 30 spare points to buy one Flight of up to 6 Wings of craft as per the standard Fleet Composition rules.

If you field a SUPPORT FLEET you can spend up to 40% of your points on civilian ships, and any civilian ships that you buy are subject to the % limits that are listed for the SUPPORT FLEET. These ships have the same Fleet Tactics and Command Distance ratings as the SUPPORT FLEET that they are part of. You CANNOT have mixed Squadrons of Support and civilian ships using this rule. Individual Squadrons within a SUPPORT FLEET usually CANNOT contain ships from different factions within it. They MUST be deployed in Squadrons of their own type and faction using the normal rules. Therefore a Terquai Cruiser Squadron can ONLY contain Terquai Cruisers, Assault Cruisers or Torpedo Cruisers. NOTE: The Terquai are a good example because the standard Cruiser has a Squadron size of 2 to 4, while the Assault and Torpedo Cruisers have Squadron sizes of 2 to 3. In this case, although you can mix these three types of Cruiser, they MUST use the Squadron size of the most restricted ship. In this case, a Squadron of mixed Assault Cruisers and standard Cruisers would have a Squadron size of 2 to 3, instead of the standard Cruisers 2 to 4.
