SOSScholarship Opportunities for Seniors

GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Scholarships: Seniors are reminded that any scholarship earned must be submitted in College and Career Connections in order to be recognized at the May Honors Reception or placed in the graduation program. The deadline for submitting this information is Monday, April 16, 2012. NEW SCHOLARSHIPS 1. Tylenol will offer ten $10,000 scholarships and 30 $5,000 scholarship as part of their Future Care Scholarship program. Applicants should be students planning to pursue a health care career and who have demonstrated leadership, community service, and strong academics. Additional information and the application can be found at https://www.facebook.com/TylenolScholarship The deadline for applications to be received is May 31, 2012. 2. Military families: ThanksUSA is a non-profit tax exempt charitable organization focused on thanking American troops. Annually the organization offers as many as 500 scholarships worth $3,000 for undergraduate students whose parent has been on active duty for a minimum of 18o days since September 11, 2001. Dependents must have a 2.0/4.0 scale. The scholarship program opens April 1 and the deadline is May 15. Financial need, academic performance, leadership, and community service are all considered in the review of applicants. The dependents of disabled American veteran are eligible for a remission of fees and free tuition at state universities in Indiana. For more information on this program www.in.gov/dva.index.htm Grandchildren may also qualify for this program. PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED SCHOLARSHIPSRead carefully as deadline dates are quickly approaching. 1. The Tri-Kappa Scholarship is now available in the guidance carousel and must be submitted by April 10, 2012. Candidates should provide a resume with the extracurricular activities, honors/awards, and any employment experience. Additionally, candidates must submit an essay stating their reasons for seeking a college education. 2. The Robert Springer/Cloyd Julian Scholarship recognizes relatives of George Washington High School graduates or relatives of former staff members. Criteria for the selection includes: 50% academic performance and College Board scores, 30% community and other school activities, and 20% athletic participation. Applications must be postmarked by April 20, 2012. Application information can be found in the guidance carousel. 3. The MIBOR Scholarship is now available. In addition to the essay, students must include a resume of activities (school, athletic, community, and service) as well as leadership roles. The application must be postmarked no later than April 13, 2012 and are available in the guidance carousel. Additional information is available at www.SouthsideMIBOR.com 4. The Dr. Donald King Scholarship is available to seniors with strong Christian leadership, solid academic performance, and financial need. Applications are due before May 1 and are available in the guidance carousel. This is a $1,000 award and they will select two recipients. 5. The Jessica Pinna Memorial Scholarship is available to seniors who live in Perry Township and who have a gpa of 3.0 and above. Students must submit an essay on Responsible Driving and plan to attend an Indiana post-secondary institution. There will be two scholarships in the amount of $500 each. The deadline to submit information is April 10, 2012. Applications are available in the guidance carousel.

6. The Watercolor Society of Indiana offers the James C. Lentz Memorial Scholarship to students who plan to pursue a degree in either fine arts or arts education. This is a $1,000 award and the submission must include the completed application, portfolio, artists statement, letter of recommendation, and a transcript. The deadline to submit the information is May 1. The application and additional information is available from Mr. Stratton (room 017) or the guidance carousel. 7. Nativity Parishioners: The Fr. Louis T. Gootee Council of the Knights of Columbus Scholarship is now available to seniors as well as eighth graders entering a Catholic high school. Applications are available in the guidance carousel. The deadline is April 16, 2012 by 9:00 a.m. Completed applications should be returned to Nativity Grade School or the Nativity parish office. 8. The Cecil Head Fine Arts Scholarship is based on submitted art work to an award committee. Each student may submit up to five original works of art. The ability to work in different media is important. Fashion design and mechanical drawing submissions will not be considered. Additional criteria are also specified in the handout which is available directly from Mr. Stratton in the art room or Mrs. Hall in the guidance area. Submission must arrive by April 30th. Scholarship awards range from $100 to $4,000.
