Historically, Man is an integral part of his natural environment Everybody could contribute to the welfare of our nature Since things are interconnected, all of us might be affected if we will not act and care The synchronized voices of the youth would be POWERFUL and can be HEARD

1995: The UN World Programme of Action for Youth on the Environment, (A/RES/50/81) Rapid worldwide deterioration of the natural environment is a major concern of young people Direct implications for their well-being both now and in the future Urgent need to maintain and preserve the natural environment must be maintained and preserved for both present and future generations Need to use natural resources in environmentallyfriendly manner

The United Nations Environment Programme Mission: To provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

Issues: While every segment of society is responsible for maintaining the environmental integrity of the community, young people have a special interest in maintaining a healthy environment because they will be the ones to inherit it.

In February 2003, the Governing Council of UNEP adopted a long-term strategy for engaging young people in environmental activities and in the work of UNEP The programme is based on a strategy that aims to provide young people with information and tools on how to "treat Mother Earth with care" and how to Act for a better world.

TUNZA, the UNEP subagency for the youth got its name from a word in Kiswahili (the common language of most East African countries) that means to "treat with care".

UNEP works in partnership with Children from all over the world, represented by Junior Board which is elected every 2 years during UNEP's TUNZA International Children's Conference Initiative to ensure sustained involvement of the youth in the planning and implementation of programs for the environment

2005: The UN World Youth Report Highlights: Need for information on environmental issues to lead to functional and action-orientated outcomes Example: Yearly Clean up the World campaign; more than 40 million volunteers in over 100 countries; millions are youth; practical way for large youth sector to take action to improve their local environment.

Clean up the World Act Established in 1993, in Australia after Clean Up Australia approached the UNEP to adopt the community-based, environmental campaign that inspires and empowers communities around the globe to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment

As a member state, the Philippines is also doing its share in responding to the global call to save the environment through various programs like Clean Up the World

UNEP and other organizations promote adopting climate-friendly lifestyles to reduce carbon emission which through practical measures that the YOUTH can do: Using traditional wind-up alarm clock vs electronic clock Drying clothes in clothesline vs dryer

Jogging outdoors vs running on an electric treadmill Switching from regular 60-Watt light bulbs to energy-saving ones Shutting down your computer and flat screen both during lunch break and after working hours

1. Nature knows best Most basic and encompasses the other principles One must not go against the natural processes if one would like to ensure a continuous and steady supply of resources. Be conscious of adhering and promoting to ecologically sound activities

Nature is beautiful and we are stewards of Gods creation Humans are the only species and actors capable of protecting other creatures As leaders, you can protect, lead and shepherd your peers or followers towards a common goal and shared vision A good leader must download all the necessary knowledge and attitude too the team for proper guidance purposes
