Peralatan transformator pada sistem tenaga listrik membutuhkan suatu proteksi agar tidak mengalami kerusakan jika terjadi gangguan. Pada saat awal transformator dihubungkan ke sistem akan timbul arus inrush yang merupakan arus diskontinu akan tetapi bukan termasuk arus gangguan. Pada saat ada short-circuit juga akan timbul arus diskontinu yang merupakan arus gangguan. Adanya arus diskontinu tersebut dapat mengakibatkan kesalahan operasi dari rele differensial. Kombinasi transformasi wavelet dan artificial neural network (ANN) dapat digunakan untuk menganalisis arus diskontinu tersebut, sehingga dapat digunakan untuk mencegah terjadinya kesalahan operasi dari pengaman.

Transformer equipment in power system needs a protection to avoid damage if fault happened. During transformer energize to system will raise an inrush current that included in discontinuous current but not included in fault current. When short circuit happened there will be a discontinuous current that is fault current.The raising of discontinuous current can cause misoperation of differential relay. Wavelet transform and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) combination can analyze discontinuous current, so that can be used to avoid protection misoperation.
