HSE Closed Bell Qualification

The UK based Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Closed Bell Qualification is valid for life and is globally accepted. It allows a diver to work to unlimited depth using oxygen and helium mixtures (mixed gas) and saturation techniques. Minimum qualifications for Closed Bell training are: 1. HSE Part 1, HSE Surface Supplied (Top-Up) or equivalent DCBC Qualifications. Other equivalent certificates are defined on the HSE website: www.hse.gov.uk/diving/qualifications/off.htm 2. Logged at least 50 working dives totaling at least 50 hours, none shallower than 6m and all in open water in Surface Supplied equipment. Only bottom time is to count towards the 50 hours and no dive less than 15 minutes. Where the dive lasts longer than 2 hours only 2 hours may count towards the total. 20 dives must be over 15m; 3. In date HSE First Aid at Work certificate; 4. In date HSE Commercial Diving Medical done in UK, Ireland, Norway or Holland. A list of approved HSE medical examiners can be found at www.hse.gov.uk/diving/medical/amed1.htm Experienced US Bell Divers with ADCI Qualifications will need an HSE Experienced Candidate Assessment (ECA) for their Surface Supplied Qualifications prior to undertaking an HSE Closed Bell ECA. Experienced US Surface Supplied divers with ADCI Qualifications wanting to do our full Closed Bell Course will need a Surface Supplied ECA before they can do the course. The HSE First Aid at Work course will be done as part of the package and we will arrange for HSE Commercial Diving Medical to be done on arrival. Each candidate must have a current HSE Commercial Diving Medical done in the UK, Ireland, Norway or Holland. This can be done on arrival in Glasgow or Fort William. Appointments can be made more easily in Glasgow. We recommend the doctors listed at the end of this brochure. The Underwater Centre was founded by the Government in 1972 as an underwater trials facility. Commercial diver training was introduced in 1975 to meet the demands of the developing North Sea oil industry. We own the only two independent Saturation Diving training systems in the world. We offer all levels of diving certification to HSE standards as well as Air Supervisor, Closed Bell Supervisor and ALST Courses to IMCA standards. We offer tuition in Underwater Inspection 3.1u preparatory and ACFM. The Underwater Centre offers dives to a maximum of 100m.
