ME FIRST ====================================================================== This document provides specific procedures to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for installing this Language Interface Pack for preinstalled copies of Windows XP Professional. This document should not be re-distributed. ====================================================================== SUPPORTED PLATFORMS ====================================================================== The Language Interface Pack for Windows XP only works with 32-bit English Language version of Windows XP Professional Edition. Language Interface Pack files cannot be installed on Windows XP Home Edition or on any 64-bit versions of Windows XP. ====================================================================== NON-SUPPORTED INSTALLATION SCENARIOS ====================================================================== Language Interface Pack only supports single language installations. You cannot install more than one language on a system at one time. If you wish to install another Language Interface Pack for Microsoft(R) Windows XP Professional on your system, you must first uninstall any existing Language Interface Pack installations. Language Interface Pack cannot be installed on a system that currently has, or has previously had, a Windows XP Multi User Interface Pack (MUI) installed on it. ====================================================================== INSTALLING LANGUAGE INTERFACE PACK IN A PRE-INSTALL ENVIRONMENT ====================================================================== For pre-installation purposes the following steps should be applied in order to install Language Interface Pack in quiet mode and without automatic re-boot: 1. Copy the msi file to the desired location. 2. When launching the msi apply the following command line parameters: msiexec /i <path to msi>\LIPSetup.msi /q 3. Also you will need to execute the following with the above to ensure that all new users on the machine receive the Language Interface Pack successfully:

<path to %windowsdir%>\mui\fallback\<lcid>\profupd.exe /l <lcid> See the example below: Note on above: In step 2 the msi file itself should not be run directly. It is necessary to run msiexec.exe for this purpose. For the purposes of this example, the msi file has been copied to a network share called \\interface\lipinstall, the windows directory is on the c:\ drive of the machine, the LCID is 0418 (Romanian) and the the tool being used is Sysprep. Please note that you must use the correct LCID for the language you are installing in order for the installation to be successful. The following section should appear in the Winbom.ini generated by the Sysprep tool: . .. ...
