need of volunteers to help minister. Maybe this is your calling? We are in need of Wedding Sacristans. At St. Cyril's, we perform over 40 weddings in a given year. Now that Lent has passed, we move so to speak into the "wedding season." The majority of our weddings occur on Saturday afternoons. There are a few weddings that get booked on a Friday. As a parish, we make a special effort to make the wedding not just a nice day for the bride and groom, but more importantly a sacred and positive experience for them and their family. Getting married in a Catholic church is drastically different than getting married before a Justice of the Peace who performs quick and easy civic ceremonies at the court house. Our Catholic rituals, songs and prayers are filled with beauty, grace and meaning that convey the religious significance of the sacrament. On the day of the wedding, Sacristans welcome those who are visiting our parish. They assist and direct the bridal party and those involved in the liturgy. They help to set up for the wedding. They assist the florist and photographer in their roles. Wedding Sacristans will even handle the wedding rehearsal that typically occurs on the day before the wedding. In short, by their organization and coordination, they help to make things go smoothly and peacefully for everyone on a very nervous and stressfilled day. The commitment is not a huge one. You would be assigned about a handful of weddings. Training and assistance will be provided. You would begin helping with someone who has experience as a Wedding Sacristan. One of the rewards of this ministry is getting to know the bride and groom and their family and having a hand in helping them on one of the most important days of their lives. Please call the rectory if you are interested in this ministry. It is truly a joyful ministry. Feeding the Hungry Thank you to all who responded to our various appeals during Lent to help the poor. A few weeks ago I noticed lots of grocery bags being delivered into church for our Helping Hands program. Also, we are grateful for those who participated in the Operation Rice Bowl program that helps to bring relief to those who hunger throughout the world. This Is Only a Test On Monday, the painter will begin to test the colors and design for the interior restoration of our church. A section of the wall and ceiling will be painted on the west

side of church, directly in the middle. This is all in preparation for when our church will be completely painted during the upcoming summer months starting this June. As you know, it is one thing to see a color sample on a piece of paper, but it is another thing to actually see paint freshly rolled on an 80 year old plaster wall. Paint looks different once it dries. Also, other factors have to be taken into consideration during an initial paint test. For example, close attention has to be given as to how the colors look during the day, and how do they look at night when there is only limited lighting. There can be a noticeable contrast between the two. The colors can change depending on different times of the day and the amount of sunlight that is able to come through the stained glass windows. I am sure things will be "tweaked" as we carefully go through the process to make sure the final product looks perfect.

Next weekend at all our Masses we will have an opportunity to hear from two of our parishioners, Guadalupe Sanchez and Randy Zezulka. Both have a message that is important for all. Their witness from two very different perspectives will enlighten you. In this Easter season of new life, we invite you to a SPRED Informational Gathering on Monday, April 23rd at 7 PM in our schools teachers lounge. We need adult men and women to join Guadalupe in forming a small community of faith. We need parents to consider this program for their child, teen, young adult, or adult with intellectual and developmental challenges, autism and its spectrum and learning problems. No experience is necessary just an openness to grow in friendships. SPRED is not instructional but helping us to grow in a relationship with God and with one another.
Volunteering to serve the needs of the Parish and the Parish School are what keeps us thriving. For more than 125 years, SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish School has been a vital ministry for our parish. Please help us to continue to grow by being a part of one of these BSJ committees. If time is a concern, please still consider us. We will be a better organization with whatever amount of time you are able to give. Please call or stop by the school office or rectory for more information or email Randy Zezulka, rzezulka@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you. Mrs. Tkachuk, Principal

Discernment
The Parish Pastoral Council is seeking nominees to fill three positions on our ninemember parish leadership team. The mission of our SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish Pastoral Council includes:
i i
Assisting in the establishment of policies and procedures relevant to the operation of our parish. Creating and maintaining vehicles of communication between our parish and the faith community. Defining needs of our parish and assisting in the implementation of those needs. This is an initial invitation announcing the opening for parishioners from SS. Cyril & Methodius to participate in the Habitat for Humanity program in Lexington, Kentucky. Dates: June 17th-23rd, 2012 Eligibility:
Our council works closely with Father Larry in establishing the vision, mission, goals and direction for our parish. All registered and actively participating members of SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish of at least twenty-one years of age are eligible to seek election to the council. Each nominee must submit a written statement to the council indicating his/her willingness to serve. The written statements can be addressed to the Parish Council Nominating Committee, c/o the Rectory, and must be received by Monday, May 7, 2012. Those submitting a written statement should plan to attend the Parish Council meeting on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Rectory Meeting Room. It should be noted that candidates are NOT elected to the council through a parish-wide election, but rather through a selection process known as discernment. Discernment allows interested candidates and current Council members to prayerfully reflect on how the skills, talents and personal characteristics of interested candidates meet the current needs of our Parish Council. Specific information on the discernment process will be presented at our May 25th meeting. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact any council member or Father Larry with specific questions or requests for information (630) 257-2776.
