Guidelines

For M.B.A Dissertation


(General Management, Health, Hospital, PHI, and Pharma Management)
1. This is a 200 marks paper. (100 marks for Dissertation Report and 100 marks for VivaVoce examination). 2. Each Student has to work under the close guidance of one Faculty member of Department of Management on one project. 3. Each Student has to submit two copies (one hard bound copy and a soft copy on a CD ) preferably typed copies of the Project report / Dissertation towards the end of the academic session. 4. The maximum length of the typed report should be equivalent to 65 A4 paper sized Times New Roman 12 size font typed pages with normal 1.5 line spacing. 5. The written report should necessarily include the following, the chapterization being perhaps in the sequence given: a. Title Page title of the project, Students name and supervisor name, department, academic year (one page) b. Certificate from the Faculty Supervisor (one page) c. Acknowledgment (one page) d. Executive summary (two pages) e. List of contents (one page) f. Introduction (to the study, with theoretical background) (four pages) g. Review of Literature (seven pages) h. Methodology (of data collection and analysis) (three pages) i. Data, Interpretation and Analysis (maximum of four chapters) (40 pages) j. Summary, conclusion, suggestions and Limitation (five pages) k. References l. Appendices (company profile, questionnaire, etc) 6. The Student can however, with the permission of his/her Faculty supervisor, creatively rework his/her chapterization, ensuring that all the aspects mentioned above are included. 7. Project/Research Proposal: The proposal must include the a. b. c. d. e. specific topic, review of related literature, objectives, research design, methods sample constitution, f. plan of investigation (data collection, data coding and analyses, chapterization, etc)

The student must strictly keep to the presented methods once approved by the Faculty, and must introduce any changes suggested by the Faculty. 8. The specific research topic may be worked upon by a student with the assistance of the Faculty Supervisor. 9. No two students will be permitted to work on the same and/or similar/identical topic in one and/or same organization under any circumstances. 10. Attendance: Each student is required to meet/contact/interact his/her Faculty Supervisor once a week mandatory according to his/her Faculty Supervisors convenience and availability. Faculty Supervisor will keep record of such meeting and contacts. The supervisor and student may schedule more meetings, if a need is felt. In addition, students are required to attend workshops/ lectures organized by the various Institutions/ organizations to strengthen their knowledge and skills. There will be no attendance for library visits, data collection, participating workshops/seminars/ conferences etc. The attendance requirement for this dissertation work is 75% as per the requirements of the course. 11. VIVA-VOCE Examination: All Students are required to attend grand VIVA-VOCE examination. The grand viva-voce examination carries 100 marks. Failure to clear the VivaVoce would result in disqualification and the whole process will be redone. 12. Process Parameters include the following criteria. Final Report will be assessed by the Faculty Supervisor based on the following criteria (50 marks): Criteria Conceptual Clarity Review of Literature Hypothesis testing/research objectives Selection of Design, Methods and Tools for Data Collection Interpretation of Data / analysis Data Presentation and Chapterization Bibliography / References Marks 8 8 8 8 10 8

14. Progress Report/Update: Each student required to submit the progress report/ update on each of the meetings with Faculty Supervisor.

15. Final Dissertation Report will be assessed by the External Examiner based on the following criteria: Marks Conceptual Clarity 10 Review of Literature 10 Research objectives/ Hypothesis testing 15 Originality of Ideas 15 Selection of Design, Methods and Tools for Data 15 Collection Interpretation of Data / analysis 15 Data Presentation and chapterization Relevance of the study 20 Criteria

16. Important points to NOTE: a. Records of Interviews / observations must be preserved. If the student is unable to prove these records at any time, the authenticity of his/her data collection will be questioned. b. Draft of the report must be shown to the Faculty Supervisor. c. All VIVA-VOCE presentation/Examination are to be formal power point presentation, you can make use of charts, OHP and projector. d. Absence of students during the VIVA-VOCE presentations/Examination for flimsy reasons, and without informing the Faculty Supervisor will be taken into account as a serious matter and lead to disqualify from the dissertation work which would considered as failure and would required to redo the whole process.
