ANSWER: The INSYS Pocket 56k modem is a standard modem that also supports 11-bit protocols. The following communication settings are required for an 11-bit connection:

PC/PPI cable: (6ES7 901-3BF20-0XA0)

Baud rate 19200 Switch 4 OFF (11 bits) Switch 5 ON (DTE)

STEP 7-Micro/WIN V3.1 S7-200 CPU:

Modem connection (local connection) CPU212, 214, 215 (Port 0), 216, 221, 222, 224, 226

Baud rate 19200 (PPI) 19200 Kbaud

Important: When using the PC/PPI cable (MLFB 6ES7 901-3BF00-0XA0), the "DTE" setting cannot be enabled. This is why it is necessary to have an additional zero modem adapter between the remote modem and the PC/PPI cable. Open the communications window in STEP 7-Micro/WIN V3.1 and select the Properties of the PC/PPI cable. The further procedure is described in the manual "S7-200 Automation System, CPU22x" in the section 7.4 "Communicating with Modem" (see Entry ID: 1109582). If you want to set up a connection between your PC and an S7-200 controller, then please proceed as follows: 1. Connect the local modem to the PC. 2. 4. Click "Program/Test" to transfer the initialization string to the modem. After a few seconds the message "Successful" is displayed in the "Status" area. 5. Note: The settings are retained on the modem even after a power failure. The firmware of the tested INSYS Pocket 56k modem had the following version: V2.100-V90_2M_DLS.
