Genie Operator Training

Introduction
This training is designed to be general in nature since it covers safe operating procedures for all types of Genie aerial platforms. It is expected that operators will follow established familiarization procedures prior to operating aerial platforms not specifically addressed during this training. This course consists of four key areas of learning and proficiency demonstration. We are going to talk about Responsibility, Safety and Operation and finish with Hands-on. The most important thing we can teach you today is to rely on the appropriate operator's manual for the aerial platform you are learning to operate. It contains all of the safety rules and operating instructions you will need. We have provided you an appropriate Operator's Manual for your use during the training and as a follow-up reference.

SAFETY

Electrocution Hazards
Aerial platforms are not electrically _ _ _ _ _ _ and provide little or no protection from electrocution.

It is mandatory that all operators fully understand the potential for electrocution when operating an aerial platform. High voltage overhead power lines are most often not insulated. The operator or any part of the machine will not have to come in direct contact with a power line to be in extreme danger. High voltage electrical current can jump up to 45 feet to seek a ground.

Keep away from the aerial platform if it contacts energized _ __

Operators must know, or find out, the voltage of all power sources in their work area and maintain safe distances in accordance

Working near energized power sources requires common sense and planning. Tohelpwiththe planning, there should be information in the operator's manual and on attached to the aerial platform that will identify the safe distance you must maintain when working near electrical apparatus. This is called the "Minimum Safe Approach Distance"
(MSAD). Do not operate a machine
