Introduction
TCS came into being in 1983 as a domestic courier company. The TCS journey since its inception has been exhilarating and as recorded in the Harvard Business Case Study, the Company that Engineer Khalid Awan established with his brother has found itself in trailblazing roles, and developed an entire Industry that has withstood the trials and tribulations of cohabiting with the Government sector, and strove every inch of the way to find win-win solutions in the service of Pakistani prosperity.

W&D
W&D (Warehousing & Distribution), a division of TCS Logistics was established in 2004. It specializes in the 3PL setup and is setting new benchmarks by providing Total Logistics and Supply Chain solutions in Pakistan. In this relatively short time span, it has already had its presence felt on the supply chain canvas of the country. W&D has an envious clientele in Telecom, FMCG, Pharma, I.T. and other sectors; it is all set to providing its customers extra-ordinary services in their respective industry segments anywhere in the country. W&D already has over 200,000 square feet of multi-user Warehousing facilities in the country, which offer efficient and economical warehousing services by employing carefully thought out material storage and handling equipment. With the most modern and efficient tools in warehouse management and out-of-the-box distribution models, W&D division is continuously achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPI) set by its customers. TCS Logistics has also implemented ISO 9001 as an assurance of the quality of service provided to its customers. Formed 2 decades ago, (year 1989), TCS Overland Express is also the market leader in door-todoor goods transportation business in Pakistan by land through 40 And 50 liters containers. This business is particularly suited for your bulk cargo movements to around 160 cities of the country, delivery KPI within three working days, considering booking date zero at main locations of Pakistan. Packaging of material facility is also available with the name of TCS mover n packers to facilitate our household customers. Main product offerings of the products are. Distribution with Last Mile Delivery:


Last-mile delivery refers to the distributor delivering the product to the customers home. TCS uses the technique to Last Mile delivery where there sub-division office distributes the carrier to the customers.

Two ways of Distribution


There are basically two ways of distribution that TCS uses. Meaning it has two different ways of operating its distribution of consignments. Following are the two ways: Distribution Centre to customers Customers to Distribution Centers

TCS operates in a very efficient way. It works in a profitable economical way. That is taking Distribution of Lahore there is one central warehouse at Pecco Road. Than Lahore is divided into three zones which are Gulberg 2, Allama Iqbal town and at Davis Road. From these three locations than final deliveries are made to the customers. And there are more than 30 main points from where customers can giver in their consignments. Rests are franchises that have been bought by different people.

There are basically two of fleets of transportation that TCS uses. Following are those two types of fleets: Air[ It is used for responsive and expensive goods transportation] Ground[ it is used for less expensive, bulky and not so important good transportation]

Distance Matrix The distance matrix identifies the distance between every pair of locations to be visited. The distance is used as a surrogate for the cost of travelling between the pair of locations. If the transportation costs between every pair of locations are known, the costs can be used in place of distances. Saving Matrix The saving matrix represents the savings that accrue on consolidating two customers on a single truck. Savings may be evaluated in terms of distance, time or money. Pick up Points:
TCS has many pickup points in all over the Lahore region. TCS strategy is simple to provide customers with deliveries on time. Pickup points are use so that customers can easily provide their deliveries to customers. Customers give their package to TCS and then sub-offices collects that deliveries and delivery it to the main office in the Peco Road Lahore. Followings are the suboffices of TCS in Lahore. Total Transportation Cost:


It is very hard to determine the total transportation cost of TCS. Here we are only covering the domestic region of Lahore only. Total transportation cost for the TCS is divided into two parts: 1. Heavy Vehicles 2. Light Vehicles Heavy Vehicles: TCS has 30 heavy vehicle transports in Lahore. As TCS strategy is responsive so in one day, 4 times deliveries take place. On the daily basis all of these transports are not fully utilize but for the demand uncertainty TCS hold extra transport. On average 22 transports are used on the daily basis between distribution centers and sub-divisional centers. On average 120 kilometer is travelled by each truck on the daily basis. Price of diesel is 107 and average mileage rate per kilometer is 7. The remaining 8 truck works with the direct home deliveries and larger deliveries to home. They also travelled on average 120 kilometers.
Heavy Vehicle = 30 * (107/7) * 120 = Rs. 55028

Light Vehicles: TCS has more than 1250 bikes and 50 pickups. On one bike travelled more than 100 kilometer and pickup travel more than 80 kilometer on average. Average mileage of bike is 40 kilometer and average mileage of pickup is 12.
Light Vehicle = (1250 * (103.70/35) * 100) + (50 * (103.70/12) * 80) = 370357 + 34566 = 404923

Total Cost:
Total Cost = 404923 + 55028 = 459951 Rs.

Full Capacity of Vehicles:


1. Heavy Vehicle = 2500 kg but in the case of TCS they only utilize 1200 maximum because mass of the package covers more space. 2. Vehicle = 12 kg in box and more than3 kg in bag. 3. Pickup = 1000 kg but TCS only utilizes 400 kg from the pickup. 4. It is hard to determine the cost with respect to capacity because most of the TCS contains envelops and boxes.

Recommendations:
1. TCS has to build their distribution center near the ring road Lahore. 2. TCS must have to build more pick up points near ring road terminal. 3. Allama Iqbal sub-division must be changed because it is near the Gulberg division and Allama Iqbal zones are easily be covered by the Gulberg zone. 4. TCS should outsource some of its transportation of light vehicles because they are not full utilizing it.
