You are supposed to answer two out of the three questions in part B. Please remember to enter the number of the question you have not attempted into the empty square below. Should there arise any ambiguity for the examiner whether the question is to be marked or not, it is question no. 18 that will not going to be assessed.

16. 25 families were asked how much they had spent on fresh fruit last month. The results of the survey are listed in the table below. 3500 4000 500 9000 4000 4500 3400 5400 1200 3000 5600 5600 2500 3800 5000 4000 6200 2100 2800 3000 6800 4500 1500 4500 5000

(Assume that the numbers in the table are exact values.) (a) On average, how much did these families spend on fresh fruit last month? (3 points) (b) Divide the values above into classes of range 1000 forints, starting with the classes 0 to 1000, 1001 to 2000, and so on. Represent in a bar chart the frequencies of the values in these classes. (5 points) (c) The 500 forints and the 9000 forints are outlying values. What is the mean of the remaining data if these outlying values are omitted from the list? (6 points) What is the percentage change in the mean, and in what direction? What is the range of the new list of data obtained in this way? (Round the mean to the nearest forint and the percentage to the nearest hundredth of a percent.) (d) The company carrying out the survey extended the original sample with the data of two additional families. Compared to the original mean, one of them spent 1000 forints less per month on fresh fruit, and the other spent 1000 forints more. Demonstrate by calculation that the mean was not changed by these data. (3 points)

18. When conducting a quality control test, it came to light that out of 100 items there are 12 faulty (and hence 88 good ones.) There are six of the 100 items selected randomly, one by one, replacing the taken item after each selection. (a) What is the probability that there are no faulty ones among the selected items? Write down the result as a decimal fraction. (5 points) Once again there are 6 items selected randomly out of the same lot of 100, but this time without replacement. (b) Which is more probable: there are no faulty ones among the se- (12 points) lected items, or there are at least two faulty items selected? Justify your answer with computation.
