Larger Rosyth August 15th, 2020 Defensive Operations Grid: Javelin One point One (J-11) Defensives Operating

Section: Kaiden Nine point Nine (K-99) of the 2nd British Rifle Regiment The clock is 7.00 PM, 1900. My name is Neville Payne. I'm a soldier of the 2nd BRR in the British AF. First Lieutenant Hugh Spencer: Second regiment command, this is Kaiden Nine Nine! Do you receive? I'm participating in the war of Britain. Hugh Spencer: Kaiden Nine Nine is under very heavy fire, we need extraction and or an objective! Over! My section was the last element to retreat from Rosyth. Hugh Spencer: We can't retreat, they've taken the bridges! Private John Parkinson: Watch out lads! We're under attack. Hugh Spencer: That's bollocks, command! We can't make it without help! Private Clive Reilly: Incoming fire! I cock my L Eight and aim out the window. Hugh Spencer: Payne, cover me while I load up! Me: Will do. I move to the lieuts' position. Clive Reilly: Watch out Nevil! Something pops just next to my head and I collapse on the floor. Hugh Spencer: Oi, don't get killed now! The lieut' pulls me up and next to him. I put my gun on the broken glass and suppress the incoming fire. Me: So what's the say, lieut? Hugh Spencer: Fall back the bridge... Clive Reilly: Balls! Hugh Spencer: ...and meet up with the element covering. Clive Reilly: More balls! I stop firing and start reloading my arm. Hugh Spencer: Well what ever the case we can't stay here, now can we?

Me: Not really, no. John Parkinson: We can't take the bridge either! Clive Reilly: Ain't got choice! John Parkinson: Fuck that! The bridge has the entire stonking SA there! Clive Reilly: What ever the stonking there is we have no choice! John Parkinson: I'm not going to throw my life awa--We all knew what he was going to say and would've agreed had a bullet not interrupted him using his vocal cords. He gurgled something and then fell on the floor. Clive Reilly: Oh god... Clive fell on his arse and stared at John's remains. Hugh Spencer: And that is why you do not stand up! I tried to close my eyes, not look at the bloody mess on the floor. But I couldn't. Instead I stared at the large hole over where the private's head should be. Hugh Spencer: That was a sniper, normal AR's don't have that large a calibre! We have to move right now! Our other private sat there and watched John. His mouth was moving, no sound coming out. Hugh Spencer: I said right... NOW! The lieut pulled Clive back on his feet rather harshly. I was amazed at this man, a fellow compatriot had died but he was still looking out for the ones alive. I stood back up but stayed in cover and watched that no window had clear sight of me. Clive Reilly: ...throw his life away... Clive Reilly looked up at Spencer, smiling. Clive Reilly: We're going to die, aren't we? Then he looked back to the corpse of private John Parkinson. Clive Reilly: He's already ahead of us, we should hurry. Spencer let go of him and he collapsed back on the floor. Both the lieut and I were watching Clive as he got back up and walked over to a window nearby. Seconds later he fell on the floor, still smiling but his eyes gazed in a void. Then we looked at each other while the walls around us popped and shed dust. Me: Some of them just... Hugh Spencer: Just give up. Me: Right. Hugh Spencer: But not us? Me: Not us. Hugh Spencer: Get a move on, private.
