Introduction and History

Sunwell Engineering (Private) Limited is an electrical engineering firm which mainly designs and manufacture power distribution panels. These panels are made according to the customers requirements and it will be carefully inspected by the companys consultant engineers. Apart from the power distribution panels the company also manufactures capacitor banks, motor control centers, feeder pillars and few other products. Not only that the company provides solutions such as power factor correction and lighting protection systems to their customers. The company was established in 2003, by a very skilled and experienced entrepreneur Mr. Susil Welgama who is also the current managing director of the company. He has also worked in this electrical engineering field for a long time and it was key factor for the success of the company. The company now has around 40 employees who are well qualified in the field of electrical engineering. One of the main strengths of the company is the excellent relationship with the costumers and the company. As most of their products are based on the customer requirements the company has to work closely with them. Also as their customer needs are unique for each customer they are working with electrical engineering consultants to give the best solution for the particular customer. Sunwells main policy is to provide customer, quality products in quick time. They have undertaken 18 mega projects within a short period of time and it is a proof that the company gives the best price and services to the customers. They have many customers from different fields. Some giant companies like Odel Garments, Kenpark Bangladesh, ABC Radio Networks and Maliban Textiles being their clients mean they are one of the leading manufacturers of power distribution panels in Sri Lanka.

Production Process of a Distribution Panel (or Distribution Board)

Preparation As mentioned earlier the company makes panels upon customers request. When customer submits a requisition form to the company first visits the where the panels should be installed and gather information about the specifications which are needed to make the panel box and estimate the necessary components to design the panel. Space available is an important to be considered when preparing a design. Once the details are gathered by the company it will first calculate all the costs of the product design. According to that they will send a quotation to that particular client. If the client is satisfied with the deal and agrees with the company, they will proceed to the next step which is manufacturing.

Manufacturing First the company will purchase necessary components like switches, breakers, indicator lights and steel sheets which are needed for the design according to the information sheet they prepared. After the arrival of above materials and components the production will be started in the workshop. First the panel box which is known as the enclosure is made with the dimensions gathered earlier. After completing the enclosure the places where the components should be installed are marked. Then all the components such as switches will be fixed by reverting them or fixing them with nuts. The wiring of the components comes next. Wiring for the controlling the switches and supplying power to the board should be done.

Testing and Delivery After this step the manufacturing process is completed and before handing over the product to the client it will be tested to see whether the product is working properly. After doing all the test the product will be now delivered to the customer and will be installed and it is ready to use.
