GLOBAL MARKET FOR BIOGAS UPGRADING EQUIPMENT TO REACH $338.5 MILLION IN 2016 Wellesley, Mass.

In a recent release, BIOGAS UPGRADING: TECHNOLOGIES AND GLOBAL MARKETS (EGY086A) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global value of biogas upgrading equipment is $125.4 million for 2011, and is expected to reach $338.5 million in 2016, increasing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22%. The global market for biogas upgrading equipment can be broken down into four regions North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the rest of the world. The North American region accounted for $1.5 million in 2011, and in 2016 the market should be worth $2 million, a CAGR of 5.9%. The European segment of the market was valued at $92.7 million in 2011 and should be worth $250.5 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 22%. The Asia-Pacific region, worth $30.1 million in 2011, should be worth $83.9 million in 2016, a CAGR of 22.8%. Biogas upgrading equipment in the rest of the world is estimated at $1.1 million for 2011, and should be worth $2.1 million in 2016, a CAGR of 13.8%. Biogas is generated through a microbial fermentation process known as anaerobic digestion (AD), by which various waste streams can be cost-effectively converted into electricity and thermal energy. At the heart of the technology is the anaerobic digester, which, in combination with a turbine or gas engine, can serve as a complete power plant. Legislation and the desire to cut greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) are the most important drivers for biogas plant construction. Energy security, the desire to draw on domestic fuel resources, and elimination of the expense and price volatility of imported fossil fuels also encourage interest in biogas. Worldwide, the majority of countries have targets for renewable energy production, GHG mitigation, or laws related to minimizing harmful landfill emissions. This study is intended to be useful to a broad audience. Because they stand to see the greatest profit from expansion of the biogas industry, manufacturers and suppliers of biogas upgrading equipment and providers of upgrading technology would likely benefit the most from the data contained in this report. Companies with plant components, ancillary equipment, and related products also might profit from the information collected here. Lastly, other beneficiaries of biogas upgrading that might find this study of value include farmers, participants in the food industry, waste processors, transportation sector players, and project developers and investors.

In addition to EGY086A, BCC also has published EGY088A, EGY089A, and EGY090A. These reports cover biogas upgrading technologies with focuses, respectively, on North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
