General Introduction
Theme: Homosexuality Topic: How has the society changed in regards to the acceptance of homosexuality? Homosexuality as defined by the New York Times is romantic and or sexual attraction or behavior between members of the same sex or gender. It also refers to an individuals sense of personal and social identity based on those attractions, behaviors expressing them, and membership in a community of others who share them. It is one of the category of sexual orientation, the other are bisexuality and heterosexuality. This theme was selected because historically the study of homosexuality has been only marginal attention in the social attention.
Also for centuries in the researcher has seen a rapid increase in the number of homosexuals in the society. It has been on the researcher intends to get to bottom of why it has now gotten prominent now than in recent years and how it was in ancient years. The researcher is interested in this topic because of the social science and the academic enlightenment that would come from learning some about the world history that was intended to stay a secret as the researcher intend to pursue a career in the field of law. The researcher intends to highlight the tremendous changes which have led to many people in the society now a day accepting homosexuality, hence the research would benefit the researcher in gaining useful information on the laws governing homosexuality over the world. This researcher will be organized into three sections: The Expository, The Reflective and The Analytical. The Expository will be presented orally and will outline the research process that was undertaken based on the above theme and topic. The Reflective will take form of an original narrative depicting the struggles of a homosexual in todays society. Finally, The Analytical section will analyse the narrative piece presented in the Reflective section playing particular attention to cultural variation and communicative behaviour.

Preface
My Secret is an original story that tells the story of a young mans struggle to keep a secret that he knows will have him treated like a cast out in society. The researcher creatively brought to the forefront characters in their world that revolve around the main character Adam. Being a homosexual have him being unsure of his place in life and has him messing with people he considers to be normal, it also have him crave a somewhat normal life wherever he see it possible. The story was selected specifically because there seem to be changes over the world in regard to the acceptance Homosexuality and it seems likely that there will also be a repeal of the Buggery Law in Jamaica. So it is essential that the researcher get to the root of homosexuality where did it start and how acceptable was it in ancient civilisation. It was also chosen because the researcher believes that through this medium information toward the acceptance of homosexuality can be argued and the audience can choose whether to accept it or not. The story targets the entire population from teenagers to young adults and senior citizens. The audience should be able to understand the evidence and understand the characters lifestyle. What make the researcher chose this genre of literature is that it is very expressive and easily understood by the audience it targets. It also is provides a medium for emotions to be considered. The main objective of the story is also to bring across the message that homosexuality may not be choices as everyone seem to believe.

My Secret
To whom it may concern My name is Adam Albertson. I am twenty- nine years old and doing very good at my job. I have a secret that I have lived with for most of my life and now I am willing to say it. I am gay. I have kept it inside because I thought if I said it out loud I would make it true, but now I am willing to admit to you what I am. It was when I was fifteen years old that things began to get strange, while all the other boys were attracted to girls I was attracted to boys. Because everyone in my country was prejudice to homosexuals I tried to keep up appearance by getting a girlfriend. I would do all the things with her that guys did with their girlfriend but I never found her attractive. When we had sex i had to pretend that she was a guy just to get a rise. It was not until I was sixteen years old I found myself falling for my best friend who was a guy by the name of Ronan. When I told him how I felt I can still remember what he said to me batty boy mi deal wid dem tings da star. We never spoke to each other again but he told no one what I told him. After that encounter I decide never to tell another person what I felt I kept on living the faade.

There are times in my life when I just feel like life is passing me by because I am a shame to embrace who and what I am, at times I feel it would be better to tell me parents that I may never get married or give them grandchildren because of my sexual orientation and then it hit me I couldnt deal with the rejection the judgement for being what I am. Many times in the news I hear of persons being afraid for their lives the fear of being murder for something you cannot changes is just so frightening. I just want that everyone wants to fall in love get married and live happily ever after but even I am not that nave I know somethings are just no meant to be. I remember this one time I met this guy name Jud and I was head over heels in love with him I through to myself he could be the one; the one that finally would get me to come out of the closet as they call it. It was great for a while for 3years it was like I was walking on cloud nine, I was considering marriage I even brought the ring. I had it all planned out we would elope to New York where gay marriages are legal. I am a free spirit I have no need to tied down He snarled as I proposed and then he said something that hurt me more than his rejection was what he said after you didnt think you were the only one.

You want to know the funny thing is that I actually believed I was. From that day I decided never to fall in love so now I am what they call a player. In layman terms I sleep around with different man I have no feelings for it only about the sex. I can remember about 1 year ago there was a young guy named James just going to school; university actually he was straight had a girlfriend and pretty much in love. I decided that this would be a challenge for me to see if I could turn him into a homosexual. It was pretty tough thing to do at first it was very difficult but with a little flirting I had him in under 6 months he left his girlfriend and told me he loved me but

when I told him that I did feel the same way he was heartbroken and I could see it but I didnt care. About a month after I heard he died he committed suicide I want to the funeral just to show respect and ask for his forgiveness. I met his sister who told me that he told his parents he was gay and they threw him out of the house and he couldnt deal with the reject so he over dose on prescription medication she found him in his dorm when she went to check on him. His suicide note read. Being rejected by your family the ones that should have your back through everything in life is worse than being rejected by the whole world. I just cant live in a world where I dont have my parents by my side. Tell me parents I love them and even though they rejected me I still love them and just tell them I never wanted any of us, Good bye P.S. do you think God well accept me into heaven Those words are burnt into me brain what will happen to me after I die will I go to heaven or will God reject me for what I did to James so I wont wait I am ready to find out. I am not a bad guy just a victim of circumstances.

Language Analysis
Analysis
The story The Secret recounts the heartbreaking and changes that occur with a young man who is afraid to embrace being a homosexual. The writer skilfully uses a combination of attitudes towards language and dialectal variations to illustrate the struggle for acceptance can influence a person to do desperate things. In dialectal variation, Adam uses Standard English to write his dairy but it is evident that when he was young he used Creole English as his friend Ronan used it to show his opinion on the matter of homosexuality. Adams use of the Mesolect and Basilect varieties of Creole English undergoes a radical shrift when he becomes a man. While the use of the Mesolect/Basilect variety suggested the bond between himself and Ronan at the beginning of the story, in the middle his friend Jud uses Standard English to speak to him and it can be though that Adam also uses Standard English to speak as he illustrated in the beginning that he has a great job. His shrift in language variation is a strategic distancing of his past and signaling his new found status he is trying to leave behind the sorrows of his past and reinvents himself. The use of attitudes towards language in the beginning of the story we see that even though Adam hasnt spoken it seems that he is comfortable with the use of Creole English. After the incident with Ronan he uses Standard English as demonstrated with the way he narrator the story. His rejection he no longer sees the need to associate with the member of the lower class, he denigrates his identity. It is evident Adam need to be in a higher class to get over the fact of his rejection. The dialectal variation was very effective in showcasing the class that the characters belonged to and their attitudes towards changing their class. The attitudes towards language show the persona education level he can write and talk in the creole but chooses the Standard english format.
