Patriotism means love and passion for the country.

It is a natural instinct that men love the place where he born. It is one of the noblest passions of human na ture. The love of country is normal and indispensable for everyone. Man is a soc ial animal. He cannot live alone. He needs the assistance of other human beings. So the people belonging to one country are brothers and they work for the colle ctive interest of the country. They struggle to flourish their country. The man, who works against the interest of his country, is traitor and he does not deser ve any respect or sympathy. We must keep our personal interest behind and we must give supreme importance to the demands of our freedom. Country is not just a piece of land. It is not only the collection of mountains, rivers and valleys. It is the heritage of our drea ms, aspirations, culture, traditions and our great religion. We love Pakistan be cause it is the centre of our hopes and future dreams. It is the land of our fol lowing generation. We must try to make it strong and undefeatable castle of Isla m. Patriotism is an active virtue. The real love urges man to do everything in his power for the welfare of his country. It makes him perform his duties honestly a nd devotedly. Patriotism makes him a good citizen, who is always ready to serve his nation with best of his talents. A good citizen is always ready to give sacr ifices for his nation. Patriotism is a sacred passion, which makes the nation re ally strong and honourable. It is our duty to keep this passion alive in our hea rts. Although brotherhood has got a far wide application than patriotism as into the words of Charles de Montesquieu The great French politician To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them.

Its widely accepted that the love of humanity is above all religions. May it be Christianity, Islam, Budhism, Hinduism or any religion across the world, each of them has the spirit, sons of the same father, then why are we fighting to divid e ourselves in the false pretension of patriotism, nationalism or many more. Above all things let us never forget that mankind constitutes one great brotherh ood; all born to encounter suffering and sorrow, and therefore bound to sympathi ze with each other. Universal brotherhood may be the ever essential desire for human beings but on the parameters of reality it can never be fulfilled. We take competition within our country, among our friends sometimes within our family so how can you expect the nations to produce no hurdles into the prosperity path of other nations. Ignoring the global level even at the national level brotherhood has just a comp lementary role to play with patriotism.

With so much of asymmetrical attributes it was and it is always very difficult t o develop true national brotherhood in country so how can we develop true univ ersal brotherhood across the globe its a mares nest which can never be developed but whenever the time adversity arrives at us it was patriotism that always tu rned up like a penny in time and derived brotherhood also in paving its own way , just like the members of a family may have controversial views and relationshi p with each other but when the need arises they stand by each other in difficult circumstances forgetting all their internal disputes. The wide range of our great freedom fighters like- Chandrashekhar Azad,Shaheed B hagat Singh,Subhash Chandra Bose,Maulvi Liakat Hussain,Abdul Gaffar Khan, Paul R amasamy we can see the contribution in national freedom from all arenas of casts and religions who worked together for a common cause with a common feeling PATR IOTISM for their nation. National brotherhood is a good thing as brotherhood mea ns at par or to have similar status whereas patriotism means having same feeling at the bottom of one s heart. Even in our national pledge we say :India is my country, and all Indians are my brothers and sisters: here also we put patriotism first and then lead the brothe rhood to play the second fiddle, infact n almost every nations national anthem p atriotism has given the first importance as in the words of Great Swami Vivekana nd one who loves not his country can love nothing So brotherhood and national patriotism are the counterparts of each other where patriotism is a bellwether and national brotherhood is to play a complementar y role but both are essential to drive the nation on right path. I incline towards the patriotism because when the acid test arrives its only tru e character can stand aloof from being filthy, if an Indian goes across the bor der weather he/she is hindu,muslim,christon or of any religion or cast his/her s olo identity will be INDIAN. So national patriotism scores not only over nationa l brotherhood but over all the other emotions cling to the welfare of nation. You can find the number of examples of patriotism but rarely one example of univ ersal brotherhood as in the race of prosperity their has been a vacuum in human arena no nation can see the other developing I will end my speech with the words i remember not the writer unfortunately I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.
