Annotated Bibliography Thompson, John. Is Education 1.0 Ready for Web 2.0 Students Journal of Online Education: The Fischler School of Education and Human Services. 24 April 2008. Web. 26 Feb, 2012. In this journal Thompson is talking about there is a new type of technology out there, Web 2.0, and we need to being using it for more then what we are currently. The article begins by explaining what Web 2.0 is and how it compares to Web 1.0. If Web 1.0 was a readonly medium, Web 2.0 is a read/write medium (Thompson). It then talks about the different social aspects of Web 2.0 and then the tools that it has that are more for educational purposes. Thompson then talks about the challenges that may occur when trying to incorporate Web 2.0 in education. He talks about how Web 2.0 is seen as only an age of person media. He then talks about Web 2.0 and higher education. He mentions different intuitions and there results and surveys about education and Web 2.0. For this article I dont know how credible the author is. It doesnt say much about him. The article was on the journal of online education and it was also from the Fischler School. Therefore, it makes think that he is credible to be writing this information. This source has some good information. I think that when compared to my other sources it goes about the education with Web 2.0 in a different way. It refers to our current education system as being 1.0. I think that using this source I could add more information about how using Web 2.0 can enhance what is lacking in education at the moment. Danciu, Elena and Grosseck, Gabriela. Social Aspects of Web 2.0 Technologies: Teachings or Teachers Challenges? Procedia Social And Behavioral Sciences. 15.3rd World Conference on Educational Sciences - 2011. Web.3 Feb, 2012.

In this article, Danciu and Grosseck are discussing what the challenges are in incorporating Web 2.0 in the classroom. They talk about the challenges for both the students and the faculty. They discuss how if we were to incorporate Web 2.0 it would be a change the role of the teachers. It also goes over the social aspects of that Web 2.0 does means. I think that this kind of broad in some of what it is talking about. I feel that there are gaps in what they are trying to talk about. It doesnt really say much about the authors, however, I think that because it was featured in ScienceDirect they have to hold some type of title and background in what they are discussing. I think that this source has some good information but it is not really a lot to work with. It goes off of what Im trying to argue in my paper. I think it talks more about social parts of Web 2.0. However, it can still be related to what I am talking about. Norton, Priscilla and Sprague, Debra. Technology for Teaching. A Pearson Education Company: Allyn & Bacon, 2001. Print. In this book, Norton and Sprague talks about all the different forms of technology that can be used for teaching and learning purposes. At the beginning of the book they discuss the advance in where education was and where it may be if we continue to incorporate more technology into our teachings. In this book they really break down the technology tools that can be used in the classroom. In each section they talk about what the tools is and then how it relates to education and what kind of educational problems it can fix. It also goes over each aspect of the tool. Both Norton and Sprague are professors at George Mason University. I think that this book is easy to understand and read. They explain everything in detail and with a lot of

knowledge and research. I think this source however maybe a little dated because it was published in 2001. This source is a good source when I want to refer to a technology tool that would be good to incorporate in the classroom. It doesnt however talk much about why Web 2.0 should be incorporate more into the classroom. It mentions things but it doesnt go into full depth about it. However, the tools that are mentioned are a part of Web 2.0. Schrum, Lynne, and Solomon Gwen. Web:2.0: New Tools, New Schools. International Society for Technology in Education: Burkholder, 2007. Print. In this book Schrum and Solomon discuss why and how Web 2.0 can be merged into the classroom and also businesses. The book first explaining what Web 2.0 is, however they do not give a definition they ask the reader a question, Have you every blogged, podcasted, wikied, showed photos or commented online? By the answer of this question which most can answer yes they begin to describe how you were a part of Web 2.0 and may not have known it. They then shift into how if moving towards using more Web 2.0 tools in schools and learning can cause a transformation in thinking (21). This will happen because the tools promote creativity, collaboration, and communication (21). They then go into how educators need to begin customizing their teaching styles to the generation in which they are educating. Schrum and Solomon also discuss safety and security with Web 2.0 both when it comes to student use and in general use. In the book they also talk about systemic issues that hold educators back from incorporating Web 2.0 in their teaching styles. In the last sections of the book they give tutorials on how to use all the Web 2.0 tools that were mentioned in the book.

Schrum and Solomon are both credible as authors. Solomon is the director of techLEARNING.com and he was also in the Department of Educations Office of Educational Technology. Schrum is a professor and coordinator of education in the College of Education. They both seem very adamant and positive about the advancement of technology in the classroom. The source is a little dated. The book talks about somethings as if they are new but now they are a little dated and not used.
