About Upgrading Yellow Machine Appliance Software

Recommendation: Anthology Solutions recommends that you back up your data to a separate device. Although an upgrade does not reformat your disk drives and preserves your data, a backup protects against unforeseen events. To upgrade to Yellow Machine Software v3.3, you must have YM Software v2.92 at minimum.

To identify Yellow Machine appliance software version:

1. Log on to the Yellow Machine Manager. 2. From the Yellow Machine Manager, click System > System Status. The System Status window appears, and displays the Yellow Machine Manager version. The Yellow Machine Installer requires approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour to upgrade the Yellow Machine appliances software. With an upgrade, you receive the following: Updates to the Yellow Machine appliances system software. These updates can include fixes to potential issues or enhancements. To download this software, go to www.YellowMachine.com. Updates to supplemental software or installation of new supplemental software. To purchase the supplemental software that runs on theYellow Machine appliance, order the Yellow Machine Software v3.3 Upgrade Kit at www.YellowMachine.com. If you want to request enhancements to the product, contact your Sales representative at the phone number listed in Contacting Anthology Solutions on page 4. When you upgrade, the Yellow Machine Installer does the following: Checks the Yellow Machine appliances partition and format of the disk drives, preserving the data and configuration information. In some cases, checks the Yellow Machine appliances existing software version level and displays a message that indicates if the new version level is older, equal to, or newer than the one you want to replace. Updates both the operating system and root file system sequentially on each installed disk drive. Checks the supplemental software versions on the Yellow Machine appliance and enables you to update existing supplemental software that resides on your Yellow Machine appliance or install new supplemental software. To upgrade a Yellow Machine appliances software, perform the following sequence of tasks: Task 1. Prepare the appliance. For Instructions... Preparing Yellow Machine Appliance on page 8 2. About Reinstalling Yellow Machine Appliance Software

Caution: Anthology Solutions recommends that you back up your data to a separate device. If you do not choose to preserve your user data when prompted during an installation, the Yellow Machine Installer reformats your disk drives and erases any data that you saved to your Yellow Machine appliance. The Yellow Machine appliance ships with two or four pre-configured disk drives in a RAID 5 configuration with Yellow Machine appliance software preinstalled. Therefore, you do not need to perform an initial installation. You only need to reinstall your Yellow Machine appliance software to resolve unexpected corruption of the Yellow Machine appliances operating system. The Yellow Machine appliances operating system runs Linux version 2.4.25, Debian 3.0 distribution. Do not be surprised if you never need to reinstall your Yellow Machine appliance software. Depending on your configuration, the Yellow Machine appliance requires up to several hours to rebuild RAID. During this time, access to your Yellow Machine appliance is slow. To estimate the amount of time that your specific configuration requires, go to the Yellow Machine Software v3.3 Users Manual. When you reinstall, the Yellow Machine Installer does the following: Reinstalls the Yellow Machine appliances system software. Shortly after the installation process starts, provides an option to erase or preserve all user data. Resets system configuration to the defaults, which are outlined in Yellow Machine Software v3.3 Users Manual. Installs optional supplemental software.

To reinstall a Yellow Machine appliance software, perform the following sequence of tasks:
Task 1. Prepare the appliance. For Instructions... Preparing Yellow Machine Appliance on page 8 2. Reinstall the appliance software. Reinstalling Yellow Machine Appliance Software on page 16
