Regards Shri --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The department of Biotechnology, through its institutions has identified 200 acres to set up the Life Sciences Cluster at Faridabad, 40 km off New Delhi in the National Capital Region. The Master Plans have been finalized and detailed architectural planning of the cluster is currently underway. The Site development work has already commenced and the construction of the main buildings is expected to start in June 2010 .The cluster is expected to become operational 24 months from the date of start of construction. The Faridabad cluster will have multiple institutions like the UNESCO Regional Centre for Biotechnology Training & Education, a Translational Health Science and Technology Institute comprising of several centers like the Viral and Infectious diseases Center, a Pediatric Biology Center, Platform technology Center and Clinical Development Services etc. Faculty from the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi and faculty from the Harvard MIT Health Science and technology Institute (HST), Cambridge USA are also closely involved in the designing and setting up the Translation institute at the NCR Bio-cluster. The objective of these bio-clusters is to create a total eco-system for innovation on one campus. It will provide a new model of educational institutions along with the advanced centres for product development, clinical development, pilot facility, animal house, technology platforms, including specialized centres for Vaccine Development and Molecular Diagnostics so that all services to take a product idea from the bench to bed side can be offered at one location. Each of these facilities are independent institutions with their own administration, but they are being structured so that faculty and researchers can access all facilities on the campus and interact with each other in a multidisciplinary environment where effective translation of ideas can occur . An Incubation Centre which is also on the cards will offer researchers and scientific personnel a place where they can also set up a company to take an interesting idea forward, taking advantage of existing infrastructure already available on the campus of the Bio-cluster.

Currently, all these institutes are being temporarily located in the vicinity of each other are being made operational from rented premises at Gurgaon. Hiring of staff is underway and over the next 2 years, it is expected that these interim premises will be completely filled up and the institutions will be ready for a move to the main campus at Faridabad which should be ready by that time. ------------------------------------Reply Forward
