B.Tech. (Aerospace Engineering)

Introduction
Hindustan Aviation Academy, Bangalore is conducting a Four year Aerospace Engineering Degree course recognized by IGNOU, New Delhi. The course is scheduled to commence from academic year 2009. The course syllabus is structured in such a way that on completion of the 4 year degree course the students will learn all facets of the Aeronautical & Aerospace Engineering. They will also be familiar with the practical aspects of Aeronautical Engineering through 'hands on' training on fully serviceable aircraft, aero engines and aircraft systems at the academy. HINDUSTAN AVIATION ACADEMY, BANGALORE The Hindustan Aviation Academy was established in 1986. The HAA, Bangalore has been in the fore-front of conducting Aeronautical Engineering courses for students and assisting them for placements in Civil Aircraft Maintenance and Aeronautical Engineering field during the last two decades. The core competency of the Academy is in imparting quality education in Aeronautical Engineering. Students who passed out from HAA are currently working in Civil Airlines and Aeronautical establishments in India and abroad. With the recent impetus in the aviation sector the opportunities for graduate aerospace engineers would be many fold during the next five years and beyond. STAFF: The Head of faculty in Aerospace engineering is a post graduate in Aeronautical Engineering from IIT, Madras. He carries with him 38 years of aircraft engineering and teaching experience. He is assisted by a team of professionals who also have over 30 years of Aircraft maintenance and teaching experience. INFRASTRUCTURE: The academy has good infrastructure for training it's aerospace engineering students. The academy is equipped with a twin-engine light transport aircraft, HT-2 Hindustan Trainer aircraft, Cessna aircraft, Learjet Aircraft, Aircraft fuselage, piston engines, jet engines and other aircraft parts. Besides these, the academy is also equipped with aircraft systems lab which consists of electrical accessories, flight engine instruments, radio and navigation systems, and other aircraft training mock-ups. In addition to the practical training at the academy the students are sent to Ms. Taneja Aerospace, Hosur for familiarization and 'On the Job' training. Further, industrial training visits are arranged periodically to different manufacturing and overhaul divisions of HAL and other aeronautical establishments in Bangalore. The academy has a well stocked library which contains books on aircraft, aero engines, aircraft systems and aviation engineering. Students are encouraged to design, fabricate and develop aeronautical system training aids under the able guidance of qualified staff during the course .

HIGHER STUDIES: Students who desire to do M.Tech / M.S in Aerospace Engineering in India or foreign Universities will be eligible on successful completion of I G N O U fo u r ye a r D e g re e i n Aerospace Engineering and on passing GATE examinations. ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY: Candidates who have passed 10+2 in Science stream with minimum 55% marks in PCM aggregate. SELECTION:
The selection of the candidate would be based on merit and interview

IGNOU:
Indira Gandhi National Open University was established in September, 1985 by an Act of Parliament, with a view to democratize education so that it covers large segments of population, vocations and professions. The primary emphasis is on innovation, flexibility and cost effectiveness. Thus, it is a university with a difference with a wide footprint across India The major objectives of the University are, o Democratizing higher education by taking it to the doorstep of the learners o Providing access to high quality education to all those who seek it, irrespective of age, region or formal qualifications o Offering need-based academic programmes at affordable cost in emerging engineering, professional and vocational areas, and o Promoting and developing distance education and maintaining standards in distance education in the country.

CAREER PROSPECTS:
A four year degree in aerospace engineering will help the students in getting placements in HAL, ISRO, Indian Air force, DRDO organizations such as NAL, ADA, and ADE. They are also absorbed in private companies like Honey well, Quest Technologies etc. Aerospace engineers can also opt for civil aircraft Maintenance in Air India, King Fisher airlines, Jet airways etc after obtaining relevant aeronautical experience and on passing the DGCA examinations.
