Communication
An interview with Asia Voight,
Professional Animal Communicator
Interview conducted by Nancy Freier
,
'\.sia Voight lives in Stoughton, Wisconsin, and has been commu-
.;ating with animals since she was a child. She began her profes-
sional work in 1998 after studying advanced animal communication
with Penelope Smith. During the years of her professional practice,
Asia has enjoyed working with over 23,000 animals! Asia's work
has been featured on television and radio, in magazines, and in Dr.
Julie Kaufman's book Crossing the Rubicon, Celebrating the Human-
Animal Bond in Life and Death. Asia has also appeared as a keynote
speaker at the Midwest Horse Fair, the Wemife Conference, IANDS,
the VIPet Event, and Pet Expos in both Oshkosh and Green Bay.
I met Asia for lunch recently and found her to be lovingly enthu-
siastic about talking with our animal friends - getting a glimpse into
how they think and breakthroughs in their behaviors.

Nancy:
"Uri ala YOu begm
this type of work?
Asia: I have been able to communicate
with animals since 1 was a child, and 1
( had a near death experience (NDE),
. . . !ere God asked me to share this gift
with the world. So, 10 years ago 1 studied
with Penelope Smith, one of the original
American "founders" of Animal Commu-
nication. She is also a published author
who has been working and teaching pro-
fessionally throughout the world for 30
years. On completion of her classes,
she said 1 was ready to "hang out my
shingle!"
Nancy: Do you want to share any details of
that NDE?
Asia: 1 was in a car accident when my
vehicle was hit by a semi-truck. 1 was
trapped inside of my van as smoke and
fire swirled around me. 1 jumped out
through the flames to live. 1 was in inten-
sive care with severe burns and complica-
tions. During the three months in the hos-
pital 1 came close to dying several times,
and one of those 1 did. 1 passed over
and three 'Ascended Beings' greeted me.
Among many other things, they reintro-
me to God and asked me to return
th because 1 had important work to
do ill sharing 'Animal Communication'
with the world.
Nancy: Wow, indeed!
Asia: Oh yeah!
Nancy: What did God appear like to you? A
form? A voice?
Asia: 1 grew up with a fear of God, that
God was male and judging. 1 was afraid
most of my teen and adult life that he
would punish me and send me to hell.
The most surprising event for me in
meeting God was that he is neither male
nor female, but both - all encompassing,
not limited by anything. God completely
loves, and it is impossible for God to
judge. He/ She was very unlike the God 1
grew up with.
Nancy: I shared this same fearful God as
fOU did, coming from the same church as
fOU did. Funny how God will eventually
our attention to see him as he truly is!
Nh .. - -'id you discover you had this gift of
licating with animals? Was it right
Ifter the NDE? I mean, did have a
at the time and did you simply start to
listen to its messages?
Asia: After niy car accident 1 adopted
a dog. My other dogs died in the car acci-
dent. Her name was 'Makeba: She was a
black, white and gray dog - some kind of
Lab/ Australian Shepherd mix. She had a
hard start in life and when 1 got her from
the Appleton Shelter at 8-months old; she
was already very challenging and would
growl at me.
We started dog lessons in Oshkosh
where we were almost kicked out of the
class because she would lunge at every-
one! 1 was exhausted just trying to hold
her near me, let alone learn anything. 1
finally decided 1 had to start talking to her
on another level in order to get through
to her, that this behavior just wasn't going
to work.
So I set the intention that 1 was ready
for my animal communication ability 1
had as a child, to come back to me. 1 just
stayed open to her. One time, after a few
weeks when I was in the livingroom, I
couldn't hear or see her, but in my head,
in a voice different then mine, 1 heard,
"Water!" I thought that must be Makeba! 1
ran into the kitchen and found her stand-
ing over her empty water bowl!
I knew my ability to communicate with
animals was coming back. 1 kept practic-
ing with her and she with me, and by the
end of the 10-week class we finished in
first place!
Nancy: That's amazing! Do you work with
all animals, wild and domestic?
Asia: About 95 percent of the time 1
work with domestic animals. Of domestic
animals, 1 mainly work with horses, dogs,
and cats, although I've also worked with
chickens, iguanas, gerbils, ferrets and
even a frog!
Nancy: A frog? This is very interesting. Do
they have different sounds in their voices,
i.e., higher/lower pitch, etc.?
Asia: Yes, they all have different voices
to me. When I work, 1 actually try to copy
exactly how they sound so their person
gets the "full affect" of their personality .
Nancy: Tell me about your horse?
Asia: My first horse, which 1 still have,
is named "Rocket Powered Slider. n He
picked his name. It took me six weeks to
figure it out because 1 was so resistant to
having my first horse named anything
with Rocket in it! 1 have a story about
him that involved a Veterinarian. Rocket
was sick and coughing. 1 called a veteri-
narian, Dr. Michelle, who does acupunc-
ture. We were all out in the barn. I was
holding Rocket while she was looking in
her acupuncture books on where to place
the needles for a horse who is coughing.
Rocket started talking to me in his
matter-of-fact confident voice, "Thll
her to stop looking in the book, 1 know
where I need the needles." 1 said, "No
you don't. You have never had acupunc-
ture before. QUiet, she's the expert. 1/
He continued, "Yes, 1 do, it is very
important that you tell her - now!"
He took a deep sigh and knew 1 didn't
know what I was talking about, so he
made the acupuncture points on his body
blink! 1 had never seen that before!
I finally said, "Dr. Michelle, my horse
seems to know were he needs you to
place the needles." She said, "1 am done
(looking in my book), but go ahead." As
she held Rocket's finished paper assess-
ment, marked side to her chest, 1 pointed
to the spots that Rocket had lit up. Her
face opened with amazement as she
turned over her paper, and there, in the
exact same spots, were her marks that
