FEEDBACK FOR HEALTH SERVICES The Western NSW Local Health District (LHD) will host a series of Input Forums to seek feedback from community members, in a bid to plan for future health services. During the two-hour forums, the LHD is hoping to gain an insight into what the top health issues are for each community, and priorities for improving the health and well-being of residents. The Western NSW LHD Community Engagement Coordinator, Illona Parnaby said, We are really looking forward to hearing from community members who have specific ideas about ways to improve cancer, heart disease and aged care services in the six centres were visiting. The forums will be an invaluable way of attaining a snapshot of the communitys health concerns. The Community Input Forums will be held: Monday 30 April, 5.30pm Parkes Coventry Room, Parkes Shire Council Library and Cultural Centre Wednesday 2 May, 2pm Nyngan Dining Room, Nyngan RSL Club Tuesday 8 May, 5.30pm Dubbo Auditorium, Western Plains Cultural Centre Tuesday 15 May, 5.30pm Orange Orange Function Centre, Eyles Street Wednesday 30 May, 5.30pm Walgett Memorial Hall, Walgett RSL Club Thursday 7 June, 5.30pm Bathurst Conference Rooms, Heritage Building, Bathurst Health Service Registrations for the forums are to be received no later than one week prior to the event and can be made online at www.wnswlhd.health.nsw.gov.au following the Community Input Forums link, or by calling Ms Parnaby on 02 6370 7804. If you are unable to attend but would like to provide input please complete an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/WNSWLHDCommunity_Input. WHAT A MONTH! WHAT A TOWN! Okay, maybe it wasn't exactly THIS month, however the television commercial that was filmed on Gaskill Street Wednesday 14 March went to air this month. Last Sunday 22 April viewers were delighted to see the Optus commercial on air for the first time. The Royal Hotel was clearly visible even though there was quite a bit of camouflage to tie it in with the Singapore theme of the ad. However, there was no missing the Junction Hotel with a great rhinoceros out the front. Sunday 8 April saw the central business district of Gaskill Street fill with gorgeous vintage machines. The National Bush Rally day hosted by the Orange and District Antique Motor Club drew a huge crowd of locals and regional visitors, adding to the already historic and unique flavour of our town. The Canowindra Challenge Committee kicked off their week long event with the Balloon Glow on Saturday 14 April with around 6,000 visitors swarming into the Sports Oval. There has been so much valuable feedback gained from the evening, however make sure you grab a survey form from the Age of Fishes Museum or the Phoenix office to help make next year even better. Canowindra@Home had a huge weekend coordinating the Night Markets with the Balloon Glow event, then backing up on the Monday night with the 100 Mile Dinner in Gaskill Street where they seated around 300 diners.

Although it was a quieter crowd than previous years, the guests were thoroughly impressed by the professionalism of the set up, and of course the delicious local fare. Having both the Old Vic Inn and the Royal Hotel participate with similar themed menus on their balconies on either end of the seating area added to the ambience of the street. From the amount of positive feedback from locals and guests, Canowindra truly is moving ahead in both tourism and local retail and services. We might be a small rural town, but the exposure and publicity we have gained from these events is really putting the infamous statement that we are "in the middle of nowhere" where it really belongs... There are too many individuals and groups to mention, but a few obvious thank yous belong to: the Canowindra Challenge Committee; the Age of Fishes Museum and Showground Trust for housing the influx of motor-homes and caravans that overflowed from the Caravan Park; the Canowindra@Home Committee; the businesses owners who had some disruptions due to street closures; the SES; Canowindra Rugby League and Union Clubs; and Canowindra High. Apologies to those who have been missed, it is purely unintentional, however to everyone who contributed to the success over the last few weeks...THANK YOU!

TIGERS WIN THREE FROM THREE A great day was had on Saturday at Tom Clyburn Oval. Starting the day was the Tigresses, with their first game of the season, and a convincing 14-4 win over Condobolin. The Tigresses found it to be quite warm in the sun, but managed to wipe the sweat aside. Youth League played a hard game against the hard hitting Condobolin side. Condobolin came out all guns firing, but the Canowindra boys stood their ground and managed to stay on top with a 36-16 win. First Grade came out with a positive attitude of making the day a Canowindra day, and came out victorious. With the support of Rob burns magical boot and the brick wall hits that Peter Pita was subjected to, and came out smiling after each clash, they swept the day away with a convincing 46-24 win. This Sunday 29 April First Grade and Tigresses travel to Cargo, kick off is from 11.40am and Youth League has a bye. On Saturday 28 April, Peter Pita, Taniela Kava, Nick Whatman, Reweti Kaire and Brenton Woolley will travel to Manildra to play in the Woodbridge Cup rep side. They will take on the Castlereagh League First game kicks off at 11.45am and another at 12.45pm. There will also be a League Tag exhibition match played at 1.45pm with girls handpicked from all the Woodbridge cup sides to play in an East versus West match. The day will finish with another First Grade game at 3pm. HOSPITAL GYM PHYSIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT AUTUMN WINTER PROGRAM Here we are in a new season, aquatherapy has finished and our Monday morning are empty. So come and join us in the relocated Hospital Gym. The Monday morning class is of medium intensity which will incorporate a variety of exercises including aerobics, weights, step section, floor routines and strength for upper and lower limbs. If you are someone with children, you can drop them off at school and come and exercise for an hour. Then join in morning tea or get going with the endorphins flying around to keep you on a natural high all day. Similarly if this is your day off, or you are retired, come and join in the fun. Thursday afternoons is also of medium intensity and anyone who is of reasonable fitness can join in. Friday morning we have our Healthy Lifestyles class of gentle exercise, which caters for people who want to maintain their strength and improve balance whilst having fun. We do some chair based exercises, and also theraband routines, which is a resistance band used to strengthen muscles. Circuit Style: Monday 9-10am Thursday 2-3pm Gentle Exercise (Healthy Lifestyles) Friday 9-10am Each class only costs a gold coin donation Polewalking In the past our department has run polewalking sessions, and we are keen to know if anyone is interested in doing an introductory session or a refresher. Polewalking is an all over body workout, which looks very much like cross country skiing. As you use your upper and lower parts of your body equally, this exercise raises your heart rate raster than just power walking. Please contact Sue, Ash or Angela on 02 6340 3017 for any further information.

TRIPLETS FUNDRAISING UPDATE The Read family would like to thank everyone, including the organisers, for their support and generosity, just under $4,000 was raised at the recent Balloon Glow! A big thank you also to the Cornerstone students and others who helped with collecting. The online total has recently topped $20,000! So including offline donations to MD NSW, over $44,000 has been generously donated in just over a month! This is amazing, and we are very thankful to the community, family and friends who have helped us get there. Now that the power wheelchairs will be sourced from Australia, the required funds have already been raised to purchase them! The family have also discovered the need for a larger van to fit the new -larger- chairs that need to be anchored to the floor. This is timely as their current van, as well as already being a tight fit, is becoming too expensive for them to maintain. A modified Toyota Hiace is the best vehicle on the market that will suit our needs. After hopefully selling our van, we are estimating this will cost about $30,000, with another $10-$20,000 for modifications. MD NSW have approved continued fundraising for a modified Toyota Hiace. Jemimah Read assureds that all money already donated will specifically go towards the new power chairs, "Anything donated from now on will go towards a larger set of wheels that will keep us all rolling- with ease! A Hiace will easily allow for growth as the kids, and their chairs, get bigger. It will also mean that we will be able to easily carry extra equipment needed (eg: hoists, commodes, etc).

PYTHONS NEWS - HOME GAME THIS WEEKEND On the weekend the Pythons travelled to Blayney to take on last years runners up. Blayney were hungry for a win and dominated in all facets of the game. Within the first 5 minutes we were down 12-nil and from there struggled to get back into the game. Hugh Wills flicked his mullet too far to one side and got off balance hurting his ankle and had to leave the field early. Blayney scored a further two tries in the first half but were contained to only scoring one in the second half. Full time score 32-0. On a positive note, two of our younger players Jack Knight and Ben Collins played a good game against a determined opposition. Daniel Muldoon and Adam Nash also had big games. Points: 3 Daniel Muldoon; 2 Adam Nash: 1 Jack Knight & Clint Oborn. Players' Player was Jack Knight Next week the Pythons will be taking on Molong here in Canowindra. The draw has been changed around and the game in the first round has been transferred to Canowindra we will play Molong away in the second round. Kick off is at 3.15pm so come along and support the Pythons. We will be collecting a gold coin donation at the gate with all proceeds going to the Canowindra Fitness Path project. Go the Pythons!

FOLK AT CANOWINDRA For a beautiful Sunday afternoon, come to taste Canowindra this 29 April for folk@canowindra. The mellow tones and excellent repertoire of Clare Coleman, above, this month's feature act, are going to be a treat for everyone who attends! Clare started singing with the Adelaide children's choir whilst still in primary school, and went on to learn guitar; singing at weddings with her brother all through high school. She joined a band once but broke up with the bass player who owned the PA. That was the end of that short career! She went back to playing with her brother at a pub in Adelaide. In the 90s, Clare moved to Sydney and was distracted by completing her PhD in Pure Mathematics. She recently started performing again, mostly material from the 80s. As usual, folk@canowindra also includes an opportunity for musos and poets to contribute to the open mike session. Entry is free, with a donation towards the feature act; all enquiries to Nerida Cuddy 0429 048 603.
