Rock Climbing

Location: Colorado 14ers, CO Dates: August 31-September 3 Pre-Trip Meeting: August 29 @ 5pm Cost: Student $120, University $130, Guest $140 Have you ever been on top of a real mountain? Leave Iowa behind and get above 14,000 ft on our Colorado 14ers trip. The Colorado peaks offer stunning 360 views of the surrounding landscapes, mountains, and valleys. Join us this Labor Day weekend for one of our coolest adventures in such a spectacular setting. Good physical condition is recommended.

Location: Shovel Point, MN Dates: September 13-16 Pre-trip Meeting: September 11 @ 5pm Cost: Student $80, University $95, Guest $100 Stand atop the north shore of Lake Superior and listen to the waves crashing 150 feet below. Rappel and climb in a staggering outdoor location that is unlike any of our other climbing destinations. We will camp at Tettegouche State Park and spend two days climbing. *Thursday afternoon departure.

Location: Current River , MO Dates: September 27-30 Pre-trip Meeting: September 25 @ 5pm Cost: Student $90, University $95, Guest $105 Come and join us for a long weekend as we explore the Current River, Missouris largest spring fed river that lies in the heart of the Ozarks. We will be canoeing nearly 30 miles of crystal clear easy-moving water, exploring spring fed caves (by canoe and by foot), and snorkeling in some of the best springs Missouri has to offer. UNI Outdoors will provide all of the canoeing and camping gear; all you need is personal gear and your sense of adventure! *Thursday afternoon departure.

Location: Mississippi Palisades State Park, IA Dates: September 22-23 Pre-Trip Meeting: September 18 @ 4pm Cost: Student $30, University $35, Guest $45 Want to try climbing outside without buying your own gear? The all-womens climbing trip is a wonderful introduction to outdoor climbing! Come join us on an outing to the Mississippi Palisades in Northwestern Illinois, climbing beautiful limestone bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River at one of its widest points. We will be camping Friday night and climbing all day Saturday! No experience necessary - all gear will be provided.

Location: Pictured Rocks, MI Dates: October 4-7 Pre-trip Meeting: October 1 @ 5pm Cost: Student $90, University $95, Guest $120 Sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, lake, forest, and shoreline beckon you to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The lakeshore hugs Lake Superior and rewards hikers with exhilarating views and opportunities for personal challenge. Lake Superior is the largest, deepest, coldest, and most pristine of all the Great Lakes. All skill levels welcome. *Thursday afternoon departure.

Location: Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, AR Dates: October 11-14 Pre-Trip Meeting: October 9 @ 5pm Cost: Student $95, University $105, Guest $115 Come with us to the one-of-a-kind Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of Northern Arkansas. Horseshoe Canyon has over 300 routes along with some world class bouldering; this area has even been featured in climbing magazines and videos. All skill levels welcome. *Thursday afternoon departure.

Location: Yellow River State Forest, IA Dates: October 27-28 Pre-trip Meeting: October 23 @ 5pm Cost: Student $40, University $45, Guest $50 Take an introductory backpacking trip, Iowa style! Come enjoy the fall weather during this weekend adventure. This trip is great for beginners as the terrain is moderate. No experience is necessary. As a bonus, UNI Outdoors will provide pumpkins for a carving contest!

Canoeing

Location: Iowa River Dates: November 3 & 4* *2 separate trips Cost: Student $20, University $25, Guest $30 Spend the day paddling the wild and scenic Iowa River via canoe. During this 8-ish mile excursion you will experience some of the most breathtaking scenery this region of the state has to offer, and its right under your nose! You provide the company; well supply the gear. Please come prepared with a lunch.

Location: Gila Wilderness Dates: November 16-25 Pre-trip Meeting: November 5 @ 5pm Cost: Student $500, University $550, Guest $600 Come hike over 20 miles of the oldest wilderness area in the United States. Located in Southwest New Mexico, the Gila wilderness is home to cliff dwellings, hot-springs, geological wonders, and wildlife. We will start our trip with a crawling tour of Carlsbad Caverns, spend the night in the Guadalupe Mountains of west Texas, and then spend the next four days on the trail. No experience necessary.

Location: Grand Canyon, AZ Havasupai Dates: November 16-25 Pre-Trip Meeting: November 7 @ 5pm Cost: Student $600, University $625, Guest $675 *Receive $25 discount if you pay in full by October 1 Investigate the riches of the Grand Canyons western edge. Spend 3 nights 4 days backpacking around magnificent canyons, spectacular waterfalls and views worthy of a postcard. Although Havasupai is not located in the Grand Canyon National Park, we will be spending time exploring National Parks: Grand Canyon, Canyonlands, and Arches. No experience necessary.

Location: Scotland Dates: May 2013 Pre-trip Meeting: TBA Cost: Student $1000, University $1100, Guest $1200 + Airfare Discover the spectacular landscape of Scotland via the West Highland Way, a 95 mile footpath opened in 1980 as the first official long-distance footpath in the British country of Scotland. Towering mountains, tranquil lochs, and rushing rivers combine to reward you with a unique and ever changing landscape. We will enjoy the Ways middle and Northern sections, culminating in the quaint town of Fort William, nestled under Britains highest peak, Ben Nevis. During our journey, we will be hiking Scottish style but utilizing a pack service which allows you to enjoy the majestic countryside with only a day pack. In Fort William, you can enjoy the local shops, let your feet heal, or take a day bus ride to explore a historic castle. Perhaps you will want to head to Loch Ness in the hopes of seeing the monster! The option is yours. The University of Minnesota will make up the other half the group. Price includes: Lodging accommodations, pack carrying service, permits, etc. Airfare, meals, luggage fees, and local transfers not included.

Location: Winter Park, CO Dates: January 2-8 Pre-Trip Meeting: December 3 @ 5pm Cost: Students $550*, University $575, Guest $600 *Sign-up by October 15 and receive a $25 discount! Break into the New Year by skiing at one of Colorados most popular ski resorts. Winter Park Ski Resort offers ski routes for all abilities. From the freshly groomed trails to the double black diamonds, Winter Park will suit your interests. Come challenge yourself to some of the best slopes Colorado has to offer. This adventure includes transportation, 5 nights condo lodging and a 4 day lift ticket. Ski rentals and meals not included. Co-op with Middle Tennessee State University.

Belay Clinics
Dates: 2nd & 4th Mon and 1st & 3rd Tues of every month Time: 6 PM-9 PM Location: WRC 174 Cost: University $15, Guest $25 Learn the basics of climbing gear, safety, and belaying on UNIs climbing wall. This hands-on clinic is designed to teach you everything you need to know to become belay certified on the UNI climbing wall. Along with proper belaying techniques, this clinic covers the use of knots, belay devices, and other safety equipment.

One of the most popular features available to the UNI community is the climbing wall housed in the Wellness/Recreation Center. This is one of the largest indoor climbing walls Co-Op in Iowa. Standing at 38.5 feet, this structure offers almost 3,000 square feet of climbing UNI Outdoors is working with other university programs offering off-campus outings to on 11 different ropes.
