Many of or teenagers are becoming sexually active and having unprotected for one reason or the other. Some of them are not educated on the different STDs that are in the world or how they can contract them. Teenagers who are become infected by some of these diseases might not know they are; while some know and afraid of informing their parents because of the consequences. This project consists of three sections: the expository, the reflective and the analytical. In the expository section a speech was done on the same theme STDs in teenagers. In the reflective section a short story was done the story is accompanied by a preface which gives an explanation of my purpose, intended audience and the context where this story can be used suitably. In the analytical section of the research I have chosen to analyze the story in terms of registers and dialectal variation. This theme can be related to my educational career path in the future. It will enhance me on how to carry out a research. This project was done to edify the teenagers on how they can catch a STD and what are the consequences. It also shows the signs and symptom of a particular STD (gonorrhea.)
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a bacterium that can grow and multiply easily in the warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes in women, and in the urethra in women and men. The bacterium can also grow in the mouth, throat, eyes, and anus. Gonorrhea is spread through contact with the penis, vagina, mouth, or anus. Ejaculation does not have to occur for gonorrhea to be transmitted or acquired. Gonorrhea can also be spread from mother to baby during delivery. The context of this story is: the story can be presented to an audience of teenagers to highlight the importance of using a condom every time; not because they feel more comfortable without it, but it is safe and that they should abstain from sex. The purpose of this story is to inform my peers that their life is at risk in catching a STD and that not all of them can be cured. It also informs them that the person who you are in an intimate relationship with might not love you the same as you love him/her.
It was a summer holiday when all the kids in town went to spend holiday with their relatives in the country; but for some reasons my dad insist of sending my other siblings and not me. I will be missing the ripe fruits and all the outdoor games they will be playing. Ill be even missing the river and the beaches they will be going; most importantly Ill be missing the chance to have some real fun with my boyfriend. After all those crying and begging my dad for send me he softens his heart and said yes. I ran so gladly to my bed room and pack all of my favorite clothes and the sexiest ones too because my boyfriend lives just two houses away from my aunts house where my brother, sister and I will be staying. He is a lot older than me but I dont care because I love him and he says the same. My dad said to me in a serious voice while pointing his finger at my face If mi eva fine out seh yuh ave nuh man mi ago beat yuh until yuh soff The next day my dad took us to the bus stop and sent us off on a bus to country where my aunt will pick us up at the bus stop there. We arrived safely and my aunt contacted my dad and informed him that we were safe. The next morning I woke up early to see if I saw my soon to be husband Chevaughn. I was just in time to catch him walk pass the house I smiled and waved to him he then smiled and wink his left eye then went back inside. My cousins and I did all the chores so we could spend the whole day at the river. I take my phone along with me so I
can text Chevaughn and tell him to meet me there; he told me that he cant make it that day so we planned to meet the next day at his house. I couldnt sleep that night because my mind was all on Chevaughn and what we were going to do the next day at his house. I tossed and turned in the bed all night. The sun was up at last. The morning was over then midday started. I lied to my aunt and told her that I was going to the shop while I was going to my boyfriend house. As I entered his house, we stated kissing and romancing then we had safe sex. It was short and spicy so we planned to meet whenever we have time again. The next two days from that was my aunts appointment with her doctor so I text him and tell him we could spend the day together at his house. As I entered his house this time we romance a little then we went bear back all day. It felt great we went for approximately four hours straight, rest and started again. The worst thing happen he got a call saying that he has to leave the parish the next day for a month on a business trip. Two to five days from that I started feeling burning and pain while I urinated, increased urination, I experience sore throat and abnormal vaginal discharge. When I told my aunt all of the story and what I did. She shouted little gal yaah idiot I loudly replied nuh showt awfta mi I begged her not to tell my dad about it and she took me to the doctor. The doctor told my aunt hat I had been infected with the STD gonorrhea. I cried and wondered if I was going to die. Then the doctor told us that it can be treated and cured.
The doctor asked I told him I was How old are you? I replied with a petrified voice I am thirteen sir He then asked me for my partners age and I told him twenty four. He even told me that I should leave sex for adults. I told him that was hard to do because I am addicted but Ill try my best. I went back to town when the summer was over and my dad still doesnt know about what happen at my aunts.
In the reflective piece entitled STD is Where You Least Expect It By Aisha Murdock it is about a young teenage girl having sex with an older guy and thinks he loves her; the older man then infected her with a STD called gonorrhea. In the following paragraphs the linguistic criteria language register and communicative behaviors are elaborate on. Language register is used in this story. This was mainly used by the teenage girl (the narrator) for example when her aunt use the Creole at her she then used it back nuh showt awtfa mi because of it was use to her in the first place. A formal register is the used between the doctor and her because of the distance between them and the job of the doctor. When the doctor then use Standard English to her she then answer in English too I am thirteen sir. She switch from Creole to the Standard English because o the situation. Her aunt shouted using Creole so she answered loudly using the Creole too; after which the when the doctor address her using Standard English she switch to English. Communicative behavior is also present in the story. It is present when the teenager said that she was just in time to catch him walk pass the house she smiled and waved to him he then smiled and wink his left eye then went back inside. That is use of action to show that there is something between them. Another communicative behavior is when her aunt shouted at her; she shouted because she was angry and shock and also when the father of the teenage girl was telling her that if him know that she is seeing someone he will beat her hard. He used a serious tone of voice while pointing in her face to stress the fact that he is serious.
It can be concluded that the following linguistic criteria language register and communicative behavior is present in the story. They were then analyzed by the writer so it can be proven that they are current in the story.
