friend WILL: KATs friend and colleague ROBERT: CASSIEs boyfriend KATHERINE is treating JO for night terrors. JO is a 5-year old girl. These terrors come with an only image: An old, used, dirty puppet, with a babys face made of broken china, severed or deformed limbs crawling, slowly trying to dance on a black background, almost tumbling. KATHERINE receives a hospital phone call, telling her that her childhood friend, ANDREW has died and left her as a contact. When she gets there, she receives his belongings: Clothes, wallet and a key. KATHERINE goes to ANDREWs apartment and finds on his desk a bunch of dated audio tapes. They contain ANDREWs own description of night terrors: Bed wetting, wake-up screaming, shivers and a recurrent dream image: The same as JOs. On a second tape, she hears ANDREWs recollection of a second image: A face made of clay and cardboard, wrinkled, like an old man with very few teeth, some of them, fangs. When the face talks, it only says one word: INSIDE. [As this happens, a shadows walks behinds her, in the background] The last tape is dated the day he died. On it, ANDREW narrates: Last night... I remembered it all. [Cuts] [Laughs] Look, KATHERINE. Look. You have to go inside. Remember? [Laughs] [Weeps] You have to go inside! [Laughs] [Screams] [Screaming] Oh, my God! Hes here! Hes right in front of me, KATHERINE! The sk [Cuts] [Static] The tape keeps on playing while KATHERINE goes to the next room, upset, to get a tissue. [Static plays] When she comes back into the room, through a mirror in front of her, she catches a glimpse of a man, covered in blood in a suit, with a strange mask made of human skin and a broken neck. When she turns around, the image is gone. The tape continues and now, it plays a weird voice. Sounds like ANDREW, but like hes inside a hollow place and with a lower tone. Hi, KATHERINE. Im inside. [Desperate screaming] Im inside! Cand [Static] [The recording ends] KATHERINE goes to CASSIE and tells her about ANDREW. CASSIE disregards the story as she remembers ANDREW as an addict and someone not to be trusted. When KATHERINE asks CASSIE about the You have to go inside quote, CASSIE is frozen, unresponsive; she hallucinates about puppets, blood, hanged people inside a dark place, with no skin and seizes on the floor. KATHERINE calls for help. They rush CASSIE to the Hospital. KATHERINE is in session with JO again. They talk about the usual night terrors, but now, JO has a new image: The face of an old man. The face looks made out of clay or cardboard. It has fangs. JO drifts away, dreaming and passing out. When KATHERINE tries to wake her up, JO strongly grasps KATHERINEs arm and in the same voice tone as in ANDREWs last recording, JO says Whats the matter, KAT? Why wont you go inside? ANDREW is having so much fun. Aint you, ANDY?

KATHERINE turns around and ANDREW is standing right behind her, missing one leg, covered in blood, no eyes and most of his face is without skin. He smiles. JO starts laughing. KATHERINE forces herself out of JOs grip, the images disappear and JO staring at her, smiling. KATHERINE asks what happened. JO simply says: You were talking backwards. It was funny. KATHERINE along with WILL, go to check on CASSIE who is heavily sedated and In ICU. There, CATHERINE tells WILL about the visions. WILL replies its silly and a myth. KATHERINE doesnt understands. WILL tells her about reading in some website about the Candle Cove legend. This kids show created by some guy without being real. KATHERINE asks What if it is real? The electric power goes out at the hospital. WILL walks around trying to find someone to fix the light while KATHERINE waits. Knocking on doors, WILL finds a light breaker switch and turns it on. The emergency lights go on, blinking. The man is standing there. WILL remembers him. Yells out No. Impossible. Youre a myth! WILL goes out of the room, running. Heads to KATHERINE, but takes a wrong turn and ends up on the other side of a glass door that faces KATHERINE. Through the glass, WILL yells to KATHERINE whos seating quietly with the hospitals lights on and cant hear him. WILL continues screaming KATHERINEs name while the man keeps closing in. WILL runs escaping from the man. Runs through lots of doors while the surrounding change into some sort of cave. There, a broken pirate puppet greets him. Hi, WILL. Please, dont run. This is hard enough to do with these threads Pointing out to intestines holding him just as threads. Behind the puppet, there are children in chains, crying, some with missing skin. Beyond them, in a corner, some kind of big snake rips a child out his skin. The man catches up with WILL. Takes him by the neck and hangs him from a metal hook on the caves wall through the back of his head, forcing him to be still. The man watches the snake and sharpens a knife. The puppet yells out in a very low voice tone Horace! The snake leaves the kid, spitting him out and crawls rapidly to WILL who screams at the top of his lungs. KATHERINE, back at the hospital and worried for WILL, starts looking him up. She opens a janitor closets door and WILL is on the ceiling, dripping blood from his broken body and moving erratically. WILL opens his mouth to scream, but his jaw falls down with his tongue moving around. KATHERINE screams in horror. WILL falls down. Nurses and doctors rush in and take WILL, while KATHERINE cries in a corner. CASSIE wakes up and KATHERINE still crying, but a little more calm, asks her about what happened. CASSIE replies God, KAT, why cant you remember? Candle They both leave the hospital and along with ROBERT, drive out to Ryans Corner, Wisconsin, their home town. The three of them arrive at CASSIEs home. ROBERT stays out, smoking while CASSIE and KATHERINE look around in the basement. Within the closet, they found a box with some video tapes. They play one of them. There are some old commercials. Static. Then, a TV show opening. It starts with noise, like a broken music box. CASSIE turns to KATHERINE and says

I cant believe you dont remember Candle Cove. It was a TV show. We used to watch it every Saturday. My dad gave me some tapes to record some episodes in this old VHS. The tape shows a toy ship at the distance. Far away. It doesnt move. Silence. Then, static. 3 minutes later, a sequence of images begins: A giraffe walking in reverse. Recorded laughs. A pirate puppet. The noise of children screaming. CASSIE says No. This is not Candle Cove. This is not it. The tape goes on: The corpse of a dog by the side of a road, a smiling hobo, a little snake, with hair shaped like a moustache heading towards the puppet. A close-up of the same pirate puppet while yelling out Horace! Horace! Horace! A little girl crying tied up in a dark room with 3 persons behind her in animal masks and black cloaks. The man holding an axe eating what seems to be a childs leg. The puppet laughing. KATHERINE turns around and sees the man standing in the corner. Pulls CASSIE out of the house and they both enter the car, lock the doors and KATHERINE starts the engine. ROBERT calls them out. KATHERINE and CASSIE look to the side, and see ANDREW outside, in the snow, ripping the skin out of his only arm with his teeth, laughing. KATHERINE turns over to CASSIE and her face is covered in ampoules. CASSIE whispers in low tone Whats the matter, KAT? Why dont you remember us? KATHERINE drives away, drifts in the snow and crashes into a tree. When KATHERINE wakes up, she gets out of the car and sees CASSIE crying next to ROBERT who is just sitting on the snow, smoking. ROBERT explains he only saw KATHERINE getting out of the house, screaming the name Horace!. CASSIE went after her, but KATHERINE already got into the car and drove away, crashing on purpose with the tree, missing ROBERT by just an inch or two while he was smoking next to the tree. Looking like KATHERINE was willing to run him over. ROBERT insists they must look further, so they pull out an iPhone and start browsing the web. They find out a guy named Kris invented Candle Cove, so they arrange to go see him. Kris also lives in Wisconsin. KATHERINE, CASSIE and ROBERT visit Kris. Kris explains its all a joke. An internet legend. Until he finally admits he had a nightmare once. A nightmare about pirates, a cave and a bizarre man. CASSIE shows Kris the tape. He cant believe it. He starts crying and urge them to leave and try the TV station that broadcasted the show. As they leave, a body falls from the sky. Its Kris, He jumped out of his window. They drive to a local TV station, practically buried in the snow, outside the town. A nice old man, Kevin, explains to them Candle Cove was indeed a TV show, made for children that only had 15 episodes in the late 70s. The station received this notification letter saying that starting some week, the show would be broadcasted and asking the TV station to be prepared. Then, government personnel came one day and just popped the tapes in for broadcasting. Just came in every week and broadcasted them. Kevin made a copy of one of the tapes, and asks them if they would watch it. They agree. Kevin takes them from one room to the next, passing along darker rooms. As they walk further, Kevin starts coughing. He spits blood. The rooms now show people in dark cloaks, animal masks, torture rooms, a naked baby crying in the dark. ROBERT tries to stop Kevin for an explanation, but when he turns around, his face is wrinkled, pale, like broken china, with fangs and opening his mouth says You have to go inside While his jaw falls down. KATHERINE, CASSIE and ROBERT run for their lives, until they hear ANDREW and WILL in one of the rooms.

They run inside an aisle, trying to find them. They open a door and find themselves back in the 70s watching what seems to be a live episode of Candle Cove. The cameramen are all without eyes, bleeding from their eyelids. The pirate puppet explains to them Ahoy, kids. My name is Percy. I am a pirate, but not an evil one. We just want to see your insides. A little girl is standing right in front of the puppet. Say hello to our friends, Janice. Say hello or Horace will fucking eat you alive, bitch! The giant snake crawls from one side and heads towards Janice. ROBERT calls out No, Percy. No. Please. Percy replies Oh, look, mate. We have ourselves a little hero. What are you going to do, Bobby? ROBERT notices a fire escape-axe on the wall next to them. He grabs it. Percy continues while the giant snake crawls slowly towards them now. Bobby? Now, what are you doing young man? Remember, Bobby. [In lower tone voice] Remember ROBERT turns around and sticks the axe blade into CASSIEs chest. KATHERINE screams and ROBERT stands in her way, axe in hand. Percy continues Yes, KAT, Yes. You will remember too. See, we were meant to train you. We want you to kill. Dont we, Laughingstock? KATHERINE turns around and sees the old man, Kevin, transformed into a giant, dirty, rotten puppet with face like cardboard. Kevin (Laughinstock) continues We were created to make killers out of children. Every person that has ever killed another human being, has seen us, KATHERINE. Your parents saw only static. Adults only saw static. But you saw us. And we saw you. ROBERT turns around and sees the snake licking little girl Janice. He cant take it. He goes after the snake and chops up its head. Percy calls out for the man, calling him Skin Taker. The Skin Taker goes after ROBERT but he still manages to stick the axe into Kevin. The Skin Taker grabs ROBERT and throws him across the room. KATHERINE unties Janice and urge her to leave. ROBERT and the Skin Taker struggle, they brake. The Skin Taker takes the axe from Kevins body and goes after ROBERT. ROBERT gets close to a giant utility blade. When the skin taker gets close enough, ROBERT lets the trap loose and the giant blade, cuts the Skin Taker in half. KATHERINE in the meantime, takes Percy trying to lift it up to throw it away. She cant. Percy in lower voice tone: You really think Im a puppet, dont you, stupid bitch? You think you are inside a cave? Or a studio? You think I am a fucking puppet? KATHERINE realizes Percy is actually a person. A midget. His face is deformed, looking like broken china without legs, moving around pulling strings above him. She turns around and sees Janice standing on a corner, smiling. ROBERT goes to Janice to take her, but Janice opens her mouth and bites his neck, bleeding him out. KATHERINE screams. Kicks Percy and runs out of the room. The blind cameramen follow her. Percy yells out Dont you understand, KATHERINE? You really dont understand? You are here! KATHERINE opens a door and finds herself again in the room. As if she circled around. Percy laughs.

Let me show you the fucking truth Percy points out to a window in the back of the room. KATHERINE goes to it and shows her telling CASSIE about Candle Cove and pouring something in her drink to make her seize. It shows CASSIE having sex with ANDREW and killing him afterwards. It shows ROBERT breaking WILLs limbs with a hammer and letting KATHERINE finish the job. ROBERT killing CASSIE. Janice killing ROBERT. Percy finishes Oh, NOW you understand! We were created to make killers out of you... my child. In the reflection, KATHERINE has Janices face. She understands now. The memories hit her. She was Janice back in the 70s. She is the girl Kris included in his legend. The show was real. The legend was real. We see the title on her offices door Dr. Katherine Janice Heller JO is not real. We see KATHERINE locking her offices door, talking to herself, laughing, cutting skin off her arms and legs and eating it afterwards. She is all Candle Cove and none of them. Her mind is split up. She is the doctor and the patient. The show worked on her and her friends. They are all killers. KATHERINE screams while Percy laughs, the Skin Taker walks again covered in blood and Horace crawls back. [Fade to black]

Epilogue: KATHERINE wakes up. Shes in her office. Opens the door and sees her assistant. Relaxed, goes back into her office and just as she closes the door, she hear Percys laughter. Turns around and all of her friends are there, no skin, blood all over. In front of them, every character in Candle Cove. KATHERINE is still inside.
