Verbs with double stems: some verbs conjugated in the present subjunctive have a stem based on the third person plural and another based on the nous. The most common verbs that follow this pattern are: Boire Prendre Croire Recevoir Devoir Voir Mourir Venir

Some verbs have 2 stems but are not based on the present indicative and yet follow the same pattern as those that do. Irregular verbs: some of the most common irregular stems are savoir (sache), pouvoir (puisse) and faire (fasse) avoir J Tu Il aie aies ait tre Nous Vous Ils ayons ayez aient Avoir and tre are also irregular:

Subjunctive
- This tense is almost always used in a dependent clause and usually, though not always, follows que. The subjunctive is used: 1. Following verbs and expressions that indicate doubt or possibility. Some common expressions are: Il est possible que Ils se peut que Il est impossible que Il est peu probable que
Ex: Il se peut que nous trouvions une pomme. EXCEPTION: il est probable que is not followed by the sunjunctive.
2. Following expressions of volition (will, desire, wish, intent) or sentiment (emotion, judgment, appreciation). Common verbs are:

Ex: Il faut que tu nous dises qui elle aime. NOTE: the subjunctive is not used after the verb esprer. Some common expressions of volition and emotion followed by the subjunctive are: Avoir peur que
Ex: Il vaut mieux que tu fasses tes devoirs. Do not use the subjunctive if the subject of the first part of the sentence is the same as the second. In this case, use the infinitive. o Ex: Je suis contente de partir. Do not use the subjunctive when the subject it certain about something. Some expressions of certainty include: tre certain(e) que Il est clair que Croire que Il est certain que Penser que Il est probable que
