Symptoms
Excess Planned order recommended by ASCP in Planning workbench has no demand to be pegged ASCP recommends additional Planned order for an Item for an organization (lets call that the parent organization) for a quantity of 6 which pegs to excess and also recommends a Planned order demand and Planned order supply in the manufacturing organization (lets call that one the child organization). The planned order is a separate order for 6 and is not a shared supply; but there is no demand for it to be pegged. This causes the release of additional supply orders at the plant for either Auto Releases or manual releases. Notes: Excess supply is recommended as a separate planned order which is not obviously pegging to any safety stocks or any other demands and passes this excess supply to child levels as a planned order demand. This caused excess inventory at parent and child organizations which do not have any demand to be pegged. The item has an order modifier of a quantity of 80 and can show up the excess supply in parent organization, but it was unclear why this excess supply of parent organization is recommending supplies in child organization.

Cause
This is the demand picture for the item in the parent organization 05-Jul = 101 14-Jul = 6 15-Jul = 2 Safety Stock (SS) is MRP Planned Percent, Safety Stock Bucket Days is 5 days, Safety Stock Percent is 500. The SS picture like this 06-Jul = 99 07-Jul = 0 10-Jul = 6 11-Jul = 8 15-Jul = 2 16-Jul = 0 Concentrating on 14-Jul, planned orders are generated for 14 (demand quantity + SS quantity). 6/14 is used for the demands on 14-Jul. 2/14 is used for the demands on 15-Jul. There are no more demands after 15-Jul, hence the SS level is dropped to zero. That's why the 6 unit is pegged to nothing. Planned order is created for the item with a quantity of 6 in the parent organization to maintain the Safety Stock level. Since the SS is dropped to zero in the later date, this planned order is PEGGED and ALLOCATED to EXCESS (demand_id=-1). If ASCP doesn't drive EXCESS into the child organization, there will be a shortage of 6 in the parent organization and we'll see below SS and negative Projected Available Balance (PAB).

Solution
Planned order is created for the item with a quantity of 6 in the parent organization to maintain the Safety Stock level. Since the SS is dropped to zero in the later date, this planned order is PEGGED and ALLOCATED to EXCESS (demand_id=-1). If ASCP doesn't drive EXCESS into the child organization, there will be a shortage of 6 in the parent organization and we'll see below SS/negative PAB.
