Triconex Tristation Simulation Driver

Introduction
This document is intended to describe the communications setup and maintenance of running a DeltaV/Triconex simulation using MiMiC Simulation Software. In this case, DeltaV is the Distributed Control System (DCS), which the user interfaces with to control the simulation. Tristation1131 by Triconex is used as a safety-shutdown system, and the simulation is driven with MIMIC by MYNAH Technologies. Using this setup, it is possible to use a DeltaV database and Triconex code which are used in a live, running process. A training operator can get hands-on experience in a simulated environment that will look and feel the same as its real-world counterpart.

Installation
At a bare minimum, three workstations are required to make this configuration. Each of the three machines will be designated and configured as follows: a DeltaV Proplus workstation, a MiMiC server workstation, and a Tristation1131 workstation. More workstations may be added to accommodate specific needs of the DCS (adding a historian, more workstations to train operators, etc.).

Setup
After the initial installation and configuration of each machine, the communications network must be set up to allow each machine to talk with one another correctly. Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control (OPC) is used over a standard TCP/IP network to exchange information between each machine. DeltaV and MiMiC are able to talk to each other without any assistance. However, Tristation1131 needs a few programs installed to allow it to correctly communicate with DeltaV and MiMiC. First, an OPC server application that can communicate with DDE (such as Matrikons OPC for DDE server) is required to convert the DDE inputs and outputs that Tristation1131 uses to communicate into an OPC alias that is understood by the MiMiC and DeltaV workstations. Next, an OPC mirror application (that is included with the Delta V installation disks) is required to map out exactly where to send data received between the Tristation1131 and the DeltaV network. Finally, an application (available from MYNAH Technologies) is needed to convert the data being sent and received between MiMiC and Tristation1131.

Maintenance
On initial installation and whenever the DeltaV or Triconex code running the safety shutdown system changes, it may be necessary to reconfigure the list of aliases in the OPC for DDE server and the item mappings inside the data traffic pipes in OPC mirror. The list of aliases may be obtained from a report generated in Tristation1131. In Tristation1131, simply load the new .pt2 file (the Tristation1131 code from Triconex) containing the updated Triconex code, select File>Print Report, and select the Modbus Aliased Tag Name Variable Listing. When viewing the report in Preview mode, you can export the data to a file to be used to edit the alias list in the OPC for DDE server or to generate a new list. Note: If for any reason at all the Triconex code is stopped or turned off, the code will be brought back up in a cold start state. The item mappings inside the data traffic pipes will then have to be modified in the event of new aliases or DeltaV tags that need to be mapped to one another. Just select the appropriate pipe (Analog writes to DeltaV, Analog writes to Tristation1131, Digital writes to DeltaV, etc.) and add/edit a mapping to point to the correct alias and its corresponding DeltaV tag name and parameter. Finally, if any additional aliases or tags have been added which are to talk between MiMiC and Tristation1131, the alias and corresponding tag name must be added to the reference tag list file used to tell the MiMiC to Tristation1131 driver which tag/alias is reserved for MiMiC to communicate to. As a final check, make sure that the driver is configured to write to the correct MiMiC dataset, which holds the tags that are to connect with Tristation1131.
