LM5015 Evaluation Board

LM5015 Isolated DC- DC Regulator Evaluation Board

Introduction:
The LM5015 high voltage two switch forward DC to DC regulator integrates the high side and low side 75 volt MOSFETs with minimum 1A peak current limit. The voltage across the MOSFETs is clamped to the input voltage which results the leakage energy is recycled back to the input to improve efficiency and there is no need for a snubber circuit. And also reduce electrical stresses, too, as the switch clamps the voltage on the MOSFET switch to the input voltage. The LM5015 Evaluation board is built to study the operation of LM5015 IC in a DC-DC conversion. The LM5015 IC is integrated with PWM generator, MOSFETs driver, dual N- channel MOSFETs arranged in forward converter topology. The major studies of LM5015 IC are: 1. Under voltage lock out. 2. Enabling, disabling and shut down function of PWM generator and the internal VCC regulator. 3. Oscillator Frequency adjustment. 4. Soft Start. 5. Maximum Load current Source capability. 6. Current limiting function. 7. Feedback section.

The above fig shows the schematic of LM5015 Evaluation board. Input DC power of 15V, 1.5A is applied to the evaluation board. The various operations such as under voltage lock out, enabling and disabling of VCC regulator and PWM generator, Duty cycle variations are observed across the HO and LO pin.

Each pin operation is explained as below: Pin 13: Enable When the EN pin voltage is below 0.45V, the IC is in a low current shutdown mode with the internal regulator and the PWM generator shut down. The Execution of this mode is as shown below.

From above screen we can notice that when EN pin voltage is below 0.45V, the internal regulator is 0V and no PWM signal is generated.

When the EN Pin voltage is above 0.45V and less than 1.26V, the VCC internal regulator is enabled while remainder of the IC is disabled. This can be observed as shown below.

From the above screen it is observed that when EN pin is above shut down threshold i.e. 0.45V but below standby voltage 1.26V only VCC regulator is enabled. When the EN pin voltage is raised above 1.26V, the internal regulator and PWM generator are enabled and normal operation begins. The below figure shows, the enabled screen.

From the above screen it is observed that when EN pin voltage is raised above 1.26V both VCC regulator and PWM generator are enabled.

RT Pin: The RT resistor will set the LM5015 oscillator frequency. To set the desired switching frequency the necessary value for the RT resistor can be calculated from the following equation: RT= (32.4K*200K/Fsw) (0.8K). Here we have set the switching frequency to 68KHZ can be observed as shown below.
