Q1. A chain of mass 10π kg forming a circle of radius R is slipped on a smooth round
cone of half angle as 45 0 . Find the tension in the chain if it rotates with a constant
2g
angular velocity ω = about a vertical axis coinciding with the symmetry axis
R
of the cone? Take g = 9.8 m / s 2
Q6. A stick of mass density ρ per unit length rests on a cylinder of radius R. The stick
makes an angle θ with horizontal and is tangent to the circle at its upper end.
Friction at all points of contact is large enough to keep the system stationary at rest.
Find the frictional force between the cylinder and the ground?
ρ R
PASSAGE I
On a strange planet called as Gravitus Increasius a projectile is fired with a speed
v0 at an angle θ to the horizontal. The planet is strange in that the acceleration
due to gravity there increases linearly with time, starting with zero value when
the projective is fired. In other words g = β t , where β is some physical constant.
For the above projectile.
PASSAGE III
A light inextensible string of length l has a point mass l
attached at one end and the other end is attached to a
fixed point. There is a nail like obstruction directly below
the suspension point at a distance l 2 . The string is
l 2
held just taut at horizontal position and is released from
a state of rest. (see figure). Assuming the diameter of the
nail to be negligible answer the following questions.
Q1 The angle covered by the taut string after hitting the nail is

Q2 The height rised by the stone, above its lowest point with the taut string is
