Campus Sustainability Committee 2011-2012 Year End Report Membership: 10 faculty members, 3 classified staff members, 1 administrative menber

and 3 student members Accomplishments: Encouraged continued funding for campus membership in AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education). Continued production of The Green Scene - Special kudos to Green Scene editors Cindy Erickson and Cath Hooper! Provided useful input to Ed Coviello, Assistant Planner with the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, about changes to bus routes serving CRC, to provide better service for students from Lodi and Galt. Participated in planning meetings with college administration, faculty and representatives from the Alliance to Save Energy to bring the Green Campus program to CRC. This is an on-going process. Encouraged reduction of paper use on campus, including reducing/eliminating printed schedules. Member Debra Sharkey played a key role in advancing the development of composting in the college cafeteria through work with Altas, Aramark, college administration and faculty. Supported students working on sustainability projects in various courses (Communication, SIFE). Supported a student project to collect CA redemption value (CRV) bottles and cans from campus trash bins, and use the money to develop a fund for sustainability-related projects. Supported the establishment of, and members served as advisors for, the student club Students for a Sustainable Future. Continued an Environmental Film Series, the Green Screen. Thanks to Debra Sharkey for developing and coordinating this series. Through Debra Sharkeys work with the Californis Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC), kept informed about sustainability-related advances being made in educational institutions throughout the state. Sent out a letter to prospective graduates offering them the option to take the Graduation Pledge of social and environmental responsibility. The pledge will again be printed in the graduation program. Graduates who take the pledge will wear a green ribbon on their gown at graduation and receive a copy of the pledge on a wallet-sized card. This is the third year we have supported the pledge. Organized and executed CRCs annual Earth Week celebration. Started plans for a Campus Sustainabilty Day in October 2012. Goals for 2012-2013 Continued greening of campus events (convocation, spring BBQ, etc.), campus purchasing practices, and cafeteria food packaging Increase recycling and energy efficiency efforts on campus Continued encouragement of, and education on, composting of cafeteria waste for use on grounds and future CDC garden Advocate for more green curriculum, programs, and certificates Increase sustainability educational efforts of students and all CRC staff, including further expansion of online communication tools
