FORWARDS The instruction manual is meant primarily for the use of the worker operating the ABL All Geared Radial Drilling Machine & its purpose is to make him thoroughly acquainted with the construction, operation & manufacture of the machine. This operator manual must be handed over to the operator who should study it thoroughly. A good command of this manual will ensure accurate, efficient & safe working of the machine needs some care without which it cannot be operated satisfactorily for long time. INTRODUCTION ABL All Geared Radial Drilling Machine combine all the characteristics of most up to date constructional features required by modern metal drilling, boring & other metal cutting techniques. The Radial Drill is of excellent design, robust construction, carefully elected material & a vast no. of carefully concerned technical features which allow the operation of drilling, boring & reaming to be achieved with speed & accuracy. (A) PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS i) Transportation (Drg. No. 2) the machine is transported very carefully in a packing case lined with a proper waterproof material. The machine is transported within the factory with the elevating motor dissembled with it. The case is provided with symbols & labels to carefully transport. After proper unpacking the machine is loaded for transportation. UNPACKING Before unpacking make sure whether the case is intact. After opening it carefully, check the machine with its standard & special equipment as per documents & packing slip & intimate irregularities if any to the manufacturer/ to the concerned party without any delay. HOISTING Use lamp ropes of adequate strength for hoisting the machine. When hoisting with a crane, place the rope as shown in the drawing thus preventing damage to the operating elements & the part of the machine. In case no crane is available, transport the machine on planks placed under the lease plate by means of Tube Rollers. Be sure that the sleeve & the drilling head ate clamped position during transport.

Foundation & Mounting

The foundation of the machine must be prepared very well accordingly / as the the provided drawing. Increasing the depth of the foundation depends upon the soil bearing capacity of the ground. See the concrete foundation is free from the influence of vibration of the neighboring machines. Important while erecting never swivel the ARM to side until the lease plate is securely clamped on the foundation leveling. Place 6 steel plates 100 x 100 x 10 mm (including C in the figure between the machine & the foundation at the prescribed position for fine leveling. The machine is leveled by the means of two pairs of wedger. (Nos. A & B) longitudinally cavities (D.E.G.F) of the foundation bolts with the concrete, then after setting tighten the foundation bolts evenly, paying close attention to the level gauge & fill the cavity under the Base in usual manner. The machine thus erected should be cleaned thoroughly from all the dirt collected during transport. The rust preventing coating should be removed from all the machines surfaces by washing with kerosene oil or nepthene. LUBRICATION
a) Pilar, Arm & Arm Elevating Screw

Lubricate these with oil or put a thin layer of lubricating oil with o soft brush. For continuous & effective lubrication felt pads are provided around the column & on either side of the gear box which absort oil & keep & column & arm slides. Continuously lubricated for smooth running of the components.
b) Lift
There is a provision for oil bath lubrication in the lift put oil through the inlet E in the lift & fill it up to the oil level D. All the bearings, gears & bushes are adequately lubricated as soon the elevating motor is in motion.

c) Gear Box
Lubrication of the gear box is forced lubrication type. A gear pump (Market H) sucks the oil from a conjointly cast container & supplies it to the points of lubrication through distributors. G after which the oil flows back freely into the container. Oil circulation starts as soon as the motor I started independently of whether the spindle is in rotation or not oil level may be checked through a gauge glass. D shown in lubrication drawing. LUBRICANTS RECOMMENDED 1. 2. 3. 4. TERESSO 52 (Oil) For Gear Box & Lift ESSO Multi-Purpose for all bearings. MILICOT 48 (Oil) for General Lubrication. KUTWELL 40 Soluble Soap (Coolant)
STARTING THE MACHINE Before the machine is put into operation for the first time, observe the following precautions. 1. Remove all the anti-corrosive grease & protective antirust. Coating by means of a cloth soaked in benjin. 2. Lubricate all the parts & fill the oil tanks to the oil level marks. 3. Fill up the coolant reservoir in the Base Plate with coolant. 4. Connect the three terminals R.S. & T coming out of the MAINS. Fuse Box No. 4 as shown in the electric installation manual. 5. Check if all the levers on desired speed & feel as indicated on the speed & feed chart. WARNING Never change any lever when the Gear Box is in operation. Make the pilot switch on & start the spindle motion by pressing GREEN Switch, they stop it at once by pressing Red Switch & change levers when spindle is on the point of stopping. 6. UNLOCK The arm by handle no. 8 & handle no. 23 (Handle no. 8 locks & unlocks the upward & downward movement of the arm while handle no. 23 controls the Radial movement & the to

& from motion of the Gear Box simultaneously). Making sure that the arm & gear box is in unlocked position, set the position of the arm & the gear box to a desired point. 7. Then select desired speed & feed & set the levers accordingly. 8. Before starting the drilling operation, clamp the drilling head by means of lever No. 23. 9. Before starting the drilling operations are done, performance test is carried out as advised below at standard speed & feed. 10. After all the above mentioned operations are done, performance test is carried out as advised below at standard speed & feed i) Drilling Diameter (Steel/ C.I) Material of drill used ii) Material to be drilled Quality : : 50 mm/ 60 mm High Speed Steel

iii) Use Proper Coolant Oil The machine must perform the drilling operation smoothly & without Blocking. ELECTRIC INSTALLATION The Electric Circuit Diagram in details is provided. It comprises of these parts a) Fuse Box b) Elec. Contractors & Relay Housing c) Centralised Remote Control Panel The three terminals coming out of the Fuse Box are connected to the mains 3 phase 400/440 volts supply . The entire circuit is energized as soon the handle No. 4 in Fig . 1is put in on position . Then the centralized remote control panel. Operate both the motor in direct / reverse direction by means of push Buttons situated on the panels.

Column
The column is ground and polished to finish . It consists of two sleeves one outer and one inner . The outer sleeve No.23 (Fig.1) The base plate is carefully designed and amply ribbed . The column and Base Plate are heavily dimensionsioned to carry the weight of the Arm and Drilling Head and to withstand the drilling pressure under the most adverse conditions.
Arm
The ARM slides and swivels on the column . All the faces of the side-ways are high precision scrapped and provide a smooth movement of the Spindle Head inspite of the Heavy Mass to be shifted. The arrangement includes a very simple and dependable method for locking Arm to column and Drill Head to Arm ensuring complete rigidity over the working length. This assists in carrying out vertical boring and drilling operations at the same time .
Elevating Mechanism
Movement of the Arm in the vertical direction is performed by the electric Motor ( No. 14) on the top of the lift casting ( No.13) . It should be noted that Lead Screw (No.12) is separately attached to the Lead Screw Pin by means of rigid pair of couplings and can easily be removed without disturbing the Lift Assembly.
Joint Gear Box / Spindle Head

This includes Speed Gear Box . When unlocked, two rollers in the Head carry its entire weight. The movement of the Spindle Head on the Radial Arm is extremely smooth inspite of the heavy mass to be shifted, due to an ingenious mechanism incorporating Ball Bearings mounted on eccentric adjustable device. In the joint gear box, shafts run in closely spaced , amply dimensioned ball bearings. All sliding Gears Move on ground splined shafts and are actuated by simple, robust and efficient lever system . The gears are made from special steel & subsequently case-hardened and teeth are generated to give precise involutes form.

www.ablmachinetools.com An ISO 9001-2000 Certified Co. Lubrication is by Forced Feed System. Twelve spindle speeds fom 40 to 1400 rpm are provided & are engaged by lever 16, 17 & 20 (Fig.1)
The Speed Gear Box

On the top of this box is fitted the main motor (no. 14) of the flange type. This drives the input shaft of the Speed Gear Box through a set of gears. The main motor is started with a push-button at the right (Centralised Control Panel)
Speed & feed Control Levers have each a Neutral position. On setting these levers in neutral position (i.e N) the spindle can be rotated by hand to facilitate setting the tools etc.
The Feed Gear Box

It is jointly cast with Speed Gear box & below it. Handwheel No. 25 is for moving the Head along the Arm. The Double Lever (No. 26) is for rapid UP & DOWN movement of the spindle. The Power Feed can be engaged by Lever No. 21. Before starting the drilling or boring operations etc lock the Head with Lever No. 23. Small hand-Wheel No. 28 provides Fine Hand, feed to the Spindle.
Drill Spindle
The spindle is made from heat treated Nickel-Chrome Steel & is machined & ground to very fine limits of accuracy. The sleeve is super finished & is lapped into the Drilling Head with a high degree of accuracy. Any form of spindle deflection can be prevented by setting a Lock-Nut housed at the bottom of the joint gear box.
Coolant System
The coolant fluid tank is located in the Base Plate & is conjointly cast with it. The Pump, along with the Motor (No.3) in drawing No. 1 is fitted at the left hand side of the Base Plate. Use soluble oils of the Opaque Type Dixol Solubriol 50 or Kutwell-40 is recommended. The usual dilution is 20/1 although weaker mixture ma be employed on the less difficult operation on the readily machined metals.

Work Light
Work Light is fitted with the Joint Gear Box & can conveniently be set to throw light at the cutting point & this illuminate the job & facilitate in its machining to high precision limits.
