How to Use Documentation
You can effectively retrieve the corresponding documents based on your working scope and the phase of the product life cycle.
Retrieving by the Product Life Cycle

The life cycle of the equipment consists of network planning, installation and network commissioning, network configuration and management, and network running and maintenance. This section describes the product life cycle and the documents that correspond to different phases of the life cycle. Documents corresponding to phases of the product life cycle are shown in Figure 1-1.

The online help provides descriptions of both the interfaces and related tasks for operation and maintenance. In general, it is released as part of the software. 2.3 Release Documentation The release documentations are released each time the product is upgraded.

2.1 Product Documentation

This section describes the main contents of each document covered in the product documentation. Table 2-1 lists the product documents and Table 2-2 lists the supporting NMS documents. Describes the hardware feature of a cabinet and each subrack, in addition to application, working principle, front panel, and specifications of each board. Describes the features and functions of the product, including working principle, application, configuration, verification, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Describes the equipment installation process in graphic mode.
Describes detailed methods of installing equipment, installation procedure, and installation techniques. Describes the equipment commissioning process, commissioning items, and operation guidelines. Describes the recommended items checked routinely after a network is put in use as well as the checking methods. Describes alarms and abnormal performance events by severity and by type. In addition, this manual describes why an alarm and abnormal performance event are generated and provides the methods of removing the alarm and abnormal performance event. Describes the general procedure for troubleshooting equipment. In addition, this manual describes guidelines on how to remove a fault according to typical fault symptoms. Describes how to add or replace a board and other parts in equipment maintenance in addition to providing replacement precautions. Describes the common operations on Huawei WDM transmission system.

2.2 Online Help

The online help is integrated into the operation and maintenance interfaces. The online help provides descriptions of both the interfaces and related tasks for operation and maintenance. In general, it is released as part of the software. The relationship between product documentations and the online help is as follows: l Based on the product utilization and operation habits of users, the focus of product documentations and the online help is different. The online help describes operation and maintenance tasks based on the GUI. Whereas, product documentations describe operation and maintenance scenarios based on the product utilization. Both the product documentations and online help describe major tasks pertaining to operation and maintenance tasks.
2.3 Release Documentation

The release documentations are released each time the product is upgraded. Table 2-3 lists the release documentations of the product. Table 2-3 Release Documentation Product Manual Name Release Notes Main Content
Describes the mapping relation between products, compatibility between the previous and new releases, product features and hardware, and updates in the new release. In addition, this document describes the known anomalies in this release, the bugs fixed by this release, and the upgrade impact and precautions. Describes the source version, upgrade precautions, upgrade scenarios, and upgrade guidelines. In addition, this document describes how to roll back the software to the source version in case of an upgrade failure.

Documentation Development
The development of Huawei documentation adopts the engineering method, which consists of several phases, including planning, development, and commercialization. Deliverables in soft and hard copies are provided to the users.
Huawei Information Development Department is responsible for the development of product documents. The development of product documents consists of the following phases: Analyze requirements collected from the customers. Make a documentation development plan. Design the deliverables of the documentation development. Develop the original deliverables of product documents. Test and verify the deliverables of the documentation development. Release the documents.
The quality of the documentation is guaranteed through the implementation of tasks at different phases and through the decisive review at the last phase.
Standards Compliance
The documentation development process is compliant with the TL9000 standards of the Quality Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications Forum
