The housing is machined from aluminum and is O-ring sealed to provide IPX7 water resistance. Like its cousins in the TLR line the lens is constructed out of a polycarbonate material that will not shatter and is scratch resistant. The hallmark of Streamlights weapon mounted lights is a tightly focused well collimated beam. This tradition is continued in the TLR-1s HP.

The howling you hear in the background is not Louisiana Bell toning the phone lines, its the coyote hunters when they get their hands on Streamlights HP series of weapon mounted lights! The TLR-1s HP (High Power), the subject of my review, is a 200 lumen flamethrower, powered by 2 CR123A batteries delivering 1.75 hours of continuous lighting, which will extend your unaided eye visibility out to 450 meters, making it an ideal and cost effective way of equipping patrol officer carbines as well. Like all the TLR weapon mounted lights, in Streamlights line, the TLR-1s HP uses a patented slide mount and ships with a complete set of locating keys that make it possible to attach the light on a variety of weapon platforms.

The hotspot in the picture above tells the story much better than I can express it in words. The deep reflector used in the HP family throws a tightly focused beam of light delivering an effective range of 450 meters with an abundance of peripheral light.

One of the many characteristics of a parabola is that a point source of energy will reflect from the parabolic surface perfectly parallel. As shown in the diagram, segments P1Q1, P2Q2 and P3Q3 are all parallel to one another. By shortening the distance from F P1, F P2 and F P3 we make the reflector deeper and the emanating light beam is more closely focused. The quality of the reflective surface will determine how closely parallel the reflected light beam is. By making the reflector deeper Streamlight achieved a more concentrated and more tightly focused beam of light.

Invariably, some individuals will want to mount the TLR-1s HP to a handgun or pistol. To them I say, be extremely careful that you have an adequate clearance between the muzzle of your device and the light. This is an extremely important consideration for your safety and that of your light.

In spite of its noticeably large bezel, Streamlights design was well conceived and the light mounts easily on any platform.

Installing the TLR-1s HP on this 1911 is illadvised! Operating the HP weapon mounted lights is no different than other TLR products. The light is equipped with an ambidextrous paddle switch (also available with a remote switch at a slightly higher cost), which provides access to momentary, continuous or strobe operation. Activation of the strobe is accomplished by two rapid and sequential momentary presses of the paddle switch. Streamlight does not publish the

strobe frequency but I believe its in the 50 Hz to 80 Hz range. Conclusion Another great Streamlight product enters the market, and Im predicting nothing but success. Streamlights TLR-1s HP answers a number of needs. First, it extends the illumination range available over competing manufacturers offering comparable luminance; making it an ideal tool for predator hunters and law enforcement. Second, it retains all of the attributes that have made Streamlights TLR line an industry success. Lastly, it delivers tactical level performance and durability at a very reasonable cost. M.S.R.P for the paddle switch version is $204, while the remote switch configuration is $289. Shop around and youll do much better than M.S.R.P. All you coyote hunters Hoooooooooo!
