Global Recovery of the world economy has been slower than expected. Economies such as Spain, Greece as well as the United States are still reeling under the effects of the global economic meltdown. The downgrading of US credit rating has aroused spectres of the 2008 Financial Crisis. The onus of growth is now on emerging economies as they continue to grow rapidly. But these economies have problems of their own such as increased spending on social goals and advancing structural reforms. In times like these when the only sure thing is uncertainty, the new breed of business leaders needs to be flexible, adaptive and far more resilient to be able to cope with a changing dynamic economic environment. Future finance professionals need to be innovative and employ creative strategies to deal with problems at hand. They need to be open to new challenges.
Finance is not just about numbers but also about effective business planning and making decisions to fit an appropriate business model for a particular service. In the post-crisis world a professional needs to upgrade his skills and expand his knowledge base with renewed vigour to increase his chances of employability. Ethics cannot be taught from fine print. We at DFS, believe that they can be imbibed by dissecting prevalent issues with in the framework of our course. Ambition and a high level of personal motivation are important but so are honesty and integrity. Our Endeavour is to educate a new breed of leaders with a heightened awareness of social and ethical sensitivity, leaders who lead not only in business but also in society. This is the time for reflection and change and to work towards a brighter future not just in economic but also in social and human terms.

Soft Skills Workshop: 23rd February 2011
The month of February saw MFC students take a much needed break from the rigours of Finance to attend a training session on effective corporate communication conducted by our distinguished alumnus Mr. J.P. Singh. A member of the 1997 batch of MFCians, Mr J.P Singh started his career at Citibank and made his way up the corporate ladder in the banking industry before venturing out on his own and starting his own corporate communication training and consultancy firm. In his characteristic style, Mr. Singh set the session in motion with an introductory introspective session where the strengths and weaknesses of each participant were gauged. The main training session was disseminated via an interactive presentation that went over the various stages of effective communication. The session was interspersed with role playing and team building exercises. To touch base with the corporate world Mr. Singh peppered the workshop with anecdotes, quotes, articles and videos. The benefits of the workshop were apparent at the culmination of the session when the students took a self administered test. The individual attentions given to students and Mr. Singhs instant bond with the students were the highlights of the day.
